WAY back in the day, COBALT 60 started out in the pages of EPIC ILLUSTRATED. It's weird, it's violent, and the Crocs are funny as shit. I don't know how well it will translate, and I don't know how many actors will sign on to a role where you only see the lead's face twice. Ralph Bakshi back in his batshit crazy 70s mode could do this justice.

I've seen of 300, I don't have a lot of confidence in Zack Snyder's Watchman adaptation. Subtlety doesn't seem to be this guy's strong suit.

Watchmen could be done as one movie quite easily. You'd just have to trim some of the fat from the plot (namely a lot of the Dr Manhattan stuff which ultimately seemed a little pointless in the long run) and give the movie a 3 hour run time. In that time, you should be able to do it well.
Stick to doing watchmen

...where getting a Watchmen adaptation right is concerned. Snyder needs to tune out the purists who'd rather see it given the Sin City treatment (literally comic-panel-tostory-board-to-s creen translation) and focus on captureing the essence of the characters and the conflict in a nice 3-hour window. No movie based on a literary work preserves everything that was goign on in that work (including Sin City), so those worried that a movie adaptation would somehow defile the book and their memory of it need to chill the fuck out.

I remember 20 years ago reading one episode and loved it, but never got around to getting any more for some reason and then forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me and now I can hunt down the rest of the series.

And the reason for that is because Ralph Bakshi shamelessly ripped Cobalt 60 off for the character of Peace. He as well stole from another Bode comic called Cheech the Wizard for the look of Avatar.

I think V for Vendetta proved that Alan Moore could be translated to the screen, without the big action sequences. Watchmen could be faithfully done, it just has to find the heart, like V for Vendetta. And it probably needs to give it's female charachters a polish, also like V for Vendetta.

Snyders' comments on Watchmen

I think were on this site, can't remember, but he seemed to have a real understanding/affection for the source material, not just some guy the studio hired to bring it in under budget. I think Warners is totally prepaired to release/market Watchmen as a serious literary adaptation than another comic movie. Look at any reprint of the TPB and it's hard not to notice how much they sell it (They, being warner publishing) as a serious work of literature. The fact that they've drunk their own Koolaid as to what this book means to so many people should bode well for how they handle this baby. Don't be suprised to see Watchmen on book club lists in the next couple of years.
If ever a title cried out to not be done in live-action

it was ANYTHING from the Vaughn & Mark Bode collection. Do it in 2-D cel animation or do nothing - anything else is totally inappropriate. I don't care who's trying to make the film, I don't care how big of a budget they get, I don't care who does the special effects or the music or the cinematography - live action Bode simply isn't going to work. It's a sad day for underground comic fans and graffiti artists everywhere. This well and truly is Not Cool News. I am cringing already. Whoever said "stick to Watchmen" is goddamn right. Making that into a live-action movie is merely extremely difficult. Taking Vaughn and Mark Bode's work and making a live-action film of it is simply impossible. Better off making WIKIPEDIA: THE MOVIE.

"Cobalt 60" is an excellent, if not underrated comic series. Definitely takes you into the true realms of fantasy, quite like Bakshi's "Wizards" or the tales from "Heavy Metal" and "Epic." I'm really looking forward to this...

I suspect whether "Watchmen" or this comes first for Zach Snyder depends greatly on how soon "Watchmen" is greenlit by whatever studio owns it. This is actually a pretty smooth move on Snyder's part. If "Watchmen" is greenlit soon, he can easily go make it first. If the studio asks for more work on the project though, Zach can go off and make this while polishing up "Watchmen".
Oh, goody.

Look, if I were Zach Snyder, and I was adapting "Watchmen" to the big screen, I'd be scared shitless. You're talking about a book that people claim as one of the greatest graphic novels ever written, and you've got half the Internet breathing down your back just waiting for every tidbit they can get. And if he fucked it up, I wouldn't be surprised if Alan Moore just snapped and showed up at his door with a shotgun. Where am I going with all this? I don't know. I'm reserving judgement until "300" comes out. But if you go for the Holy Grail, Zach, best of luck to you. Oh, and throw 20 million dollars at Simon Pegg to be Rorschach, even though he said no. The end.

Damn, I have almost watch it as many times as The Sin City trailer. And that is saying a lot! Anyhow, if Snyder could goosebump with a trailer, I strongly believe that he can turn the holy grail of graphic novels into something kick ass. Never heard of Cobalt, but I know that if I were in Snyder's position right now I would spend day in and day out obsessing over how to turn Watchmen into all the greatness and glory it could be.
