It's a shame things didn't go better for this actress Joey Lauren Adams, because I thought she was great in Chasing Amy. That was a nice comedy about romance that felt like it was about real people rather than some silly Julia Roberts fantasy type stuff. Still, the world does need more female voices in the writing and directing side of things, so perhaps this new career of hers will develop into something interesting. Good luck, Joey Lauren Adams.

I think that was her biggest problem breaking through in Hollywood. They aren't dead ringers, but they do resemble each other and have similar voices. When Rene broke through in Jerry Maguire, Hollywood probably figured audiences would be too dumb to tell them apart, they always worry about idiotic things like that. I remember reading that NBC didn't want Martin Sheen to play the president in The West Wing because they didn't think the audience could understand he was playing a different character from the one he played in American President. It's a shame because she has so much to offer as an actress, her acting in Chasing Amy didn't just deserve the Golden Globe, but an Oscar nomination. I'm glad she's finally finding her niche, if you can make a good living writing and directing, that's better than playing David Spade's girlfriend in Joe Dirt 2.

...she really should've gotten an Oscar nom for "Chasing Amy". The only thing holding her back is her cartoony voice and with Jennifer Tilly holding the sole cartoony voice actress slot down with her awesome rack, that leaves little for JLA. Bummer.

I like JLA as an actress. But I'm MORE excited to see what she does as a writer and director. We need more women doing both. I'll definitely check it out. I'm SUPER excited to hear that Ashley turns in a good performance, though. Been waiting for this to happen. Maybe they'll work together again.
