The film quality was absolute shit - it was scratchy and jumping all over the place, the effects work was fucking horrible - it didn't look at all realistic and was too over the top. A gun for a leg?! That's just stupid... I think Tarantino's arrogance and ego has finally got the better of him; this looks just like some bad low-budget 70's exploitation film...

Seems taking the approach that making something deliberately shit elevates it above the level of films that were just plain shit through circumstances like poor writing and low production values actually works for most of you guys. Looks like it's about the right climate for a remake of 'Hell Comes to Frogtown'. Ah, we're in a new golden age of cinema.

Yeah you're right - I'm just a grumpy bastard. I guess I just don't get all excited by what are effectively the film equivalent of making a mix tape. Sure, you can put great tracks on a mix tape but it's not really advancing anything. Just as mimicing past films and styles doesn't. I wouldn't give a shit except I think both Tarantino and Rodriguez are seriously talented and could, if they put their minds to it, probably do something to revolutionise film if they weren't so caught up in remaking the films they love themselves.

The fact that this trailer was on TV last night when it aired during Spike TV's Scream Awards which really was a long long promotion for GrindHouse and any other Tarantino and Rodriguez project of the past to get glorified.Which I dont really mind at all cause I love Tarantino and Rodriguez flicks .But really the award show was pretty lame. At heart it was great to see cool geek things get honored but it all came off as fake and staged.

I really hope they don't overdo it with the whole scratch effects, jump cuts and shit, but I can see that kind of thing getting really fucking annoying really fucking quickly. And regardless of what Tarantino might spew out of his coke addled mouth, watching flicks with bits missing and bad edits isn't cool, it's just irritating, always has been. Still, like I said, looks like a damn lot of fun regardless, and it's great to see Michael Biehn on the big screen again (and in a non military, non cowboy role to boot...though I guess he's played plenty of cops too).

I'm overjoyed - A fanboys wet dream has been realised! To anyone who's blasting this already for rehashing 70's exploitation flix - Get a Grip! Thats what they've had in mind from the start! What the furk were you expecting guys? We've all known since day one that this was planned to be a homage (hate that furkhin word) to those films, and it has also been clear as day to me from the getgo that these two are always going to make films that let them a) have fun and b)let them play around with the stuff they love! We were all given vivid detail of what to expect from these films and what we've seen above delivers that in spades! I swear some of the people who talkback on here just sit all day eating buckets of chicken and playing WoW waiting to slag everything off! And another thing - splitting hairs about the 'quality' of the grainy technique is proper furking geeky - lets be honest boys we all love this shyte but we need to keep it under wraps man, lasses dont like to hear that kind of shyte. Obsessive criticism of very minor technical 'observations' gives geeks like me a bad name! Anyways - looks like a real hoot! Can't wait to see it Boulkaaa!!

Good to see you are still in love with RR, but I have to say I have no interest in your penis. The movie looks good as far as parody goes. I'm always interested in their work so will check it out. I am worried that if it keeps getting more and more OTT then it won't work as a movie. And I will never read a Harry review of it, mainly because I don't want to read schoolboy grade bi/curious porn (concerning RR anyway). Good to see you back DocP.

It's nice to see the number of positive talkbacks on here today - Im furking sick to death of people coming on here with their minging vibe bringing all of us happy sorts down.. We all know this film looks cool - its as clear as day!! All the folk using this site love this kind of stuff! Monsters/Zombies/Maniacs/Crazy Stunts/Crazy Characters etc.. We love this stuff!!! I'm telling ya man geekiness is going to implode! The geeks are malfunctioning! The sky is blue (sometimes if ur in the UK), the grass is green, and miniguns on motorcycles in films with zombies and maniacs in are furking awesome!! What the hell do you guys want man? How on earth can people who likethe kind of stuff this site covers moan about this?? I tell you wat man, there's this guy at my local comic store who has, in the time i've been going there, only ever said negative things about anything that has come out, films and comics.. Over the years I have mad a point of testing this lad by systematically dropping titles into conversation. In time I came to realise one thing, a horrible side-effect of the geek gene that we all possess. Over-exposure WILL make you into a miserable pigface who can only have negative opinions on things because you are so 'well-informed' that everything seems like a cliche!! (Taking a breath...) So to my point - we all love this kind of shyte, but there are way too many people coming on here trying to sound smart by saying "its too much like this" or "its not enough like that" - We live in a time when ALL of our tastes are being catered for, and people who share our love for these kind of films are being given free reign to do what they want on the silver screen for 2 hours! Be happy guys! Life is too short! And I was having a great time reading this talkback until you pain in the arze supernerds started posting - Be happy you furking nerds! So don't go see it mate, if you like 70's exploitation re-hashing then you go see these guy's films, if you dont then don't bother! You must admit that its better to have the option, I don't like musicals, but if one comes out I don't pro-actively criticise it. I just dont think about it! The point I'm making today mate, and its not a personal attack, is that loads of people come on here to give the film a right slagging just because its a QT/RR film. We already know what to expect, and its got me baffled that people who aren't into that style are even bothering to comment - we KNEW it'd be like this, its never been dressed up as anything else! I just dont understand why people who are against 70's exp re-hashing are even bothering to click on the link.. I guess some people just like to moan...

08:36:54 AM
To be honest, If i was RR or QT i'd probably make films like these, although mine would be more along the lines of Dark Star... I digress, but seriously, I hope this is the last thing of this type they do though, RR has at least got a bevvy of highly original work, within different styles and genre's ,under his belt, (i.e Spy Kids, the faculty) QT has only ever made one style of movie. yes its fun to watch but considering that the guy has made 5 full length movies (Kill Bill is 1 film) and 3 of those are 70's styled Gangster movies he doesn't really have a huge artistic palate to show for himself. I'm hopeful that Inglorius Bast's will improve on this, but I have reservations.

But I'm not really a fan of RR's stuff, even the much praised Sin City didn't blow me away. As for QT, I love his earlier work, but Kill Bill was a bit of a geek wankfest, it was OK, but deeply self indulgent. It should have been cut down to one 2 hour film, and I never bought any of the women as warriors, they looked like wimpy Hollywood babes pretending to be hard, which they were. I'll watch it, and I hope it will be entertaining, but the sooner QT does something a little more serious the better.

The crowd that gets a boner any time Tarantino or Rodriguez points a camera at something annoy me. This looks entertaining on a b-movie gorefest level, but it's nothing to get excited about. Rose Mcgowan does get me all blood engorged, but still, the movie itself doesn't look all that and nostalgic feelings doesn't make it good by default.

I'm not one of those guys that comes on here just to bash movies in talkbacks just to get attention, but this trailer did very little for me. The acting was really, really bad (not good cheesy - very bad cheesy). The girl with the gun for a leg just looks awkward. In the storyboards, I'm sure the shot of her blowing the smoke from the barrel of the gun looks cool, but in execution it just doesn't work. What happens when she walks around? Don't rocks and junk get clogged up in the barrel? Wouldn't that cause a problem? I'm no gun expert, but I would guess it would either jam the gun, or cause the shot to be off-target. Just doesn't make sense to me. A gun for a lost ARM? Hell yes! A leg? No. Although I would love a movie like this if it was done right, I'm afraid this one isn't it. Maybe it's not too late to fix things. Dunno. I certainly hope I'm wrong about it, cuz some parts did look kinda cool.

Rodriguez has more natural talent (anybody notice he did the music, too?) and the better story here, but Kurt Russell can save anything - speaking of, didn't feel much of a vibe from DEATH PROOF at all, what with all those zombies and Tom Savini lurching around...Also, they really just should have made MACHETE - it looked like the best of the three films, and the one truest to the supposed 70's exploitation roots...

The scratches and frame jumps will only get this movie so far, if that is going to be one of the main tools in helping emulate that explo-feel...I can do the same with Premiere Pro, as can hundreds of other people, apparently (see: youtube). Also, time to be brutal: I just watched this again and it started looking pretty weak...except for MACHETE - seriously, they should have made it and gone balls-slamming-to-the-wall insane for a couple hours.

You know if you actually read talkbacks all the way through before commenting, it makes you look a lot less daft; especially when you fall for a jape AFTER the punchline has been revealed... I'm firmly with the 'Film Machete Now!' camp... that would rock my sock off my cock. You can kind of see QT playing with the whole exploitation film idea in the deleted scene on the Kill Bill 2 DVD. You know, the scene with Uma and Bill at the market where he takes down Michael Jai and chums..

"Machete" the Mexican version of Blade. I must sya that I agree with some of you here. Harry does way to much "Self Referencing My Genitals" as a way to explain what I feels is cool or how cool I feel it is. Doesn't this guy have a film school or babysitter kindercare center thing going with local kids from his town. Ummm Parents.... He calls his chick Yoko- so I guess he's feels he's the John Lenonn of film Critic's. He's as self masturbatory as QT is, but in a creepy, geeky, fat, guy who might touch little kids kind of way. I still like the guy that is Harry, but man I wouldn't be shocked at all if CNN reported a Neverland Ranch like story on him. Stop talking in Pusedo Sexual Perverso Mr. Knowles. You creeping a lot of us out bro... I wouldn't let my kids near you man, but I still think your funny as shit and I love this place. Your like the snap bracelet fad of the early 90's. Anyone that doesn't want to immediately see this movie (possibly at BNAT8... eh, eh?) is on the wrong site, and should revoke their geek status. Film is about expression, about joy, about all of the idiosyncrasies that pollute our little pea brains. For some that is Grindhouse, Pan's Labyrinth, The Prestige, Apocalypto, The Fountain, and on and on....., for others it is about some formulaic 'safe' piece of cutesy animal animation like Open Season, or some ridiculous 'horror' remake prequel, or some terrible holiday romp in piss soaked snow.... Please surf the net accordingly and stay with your own kind, or be open minded if you must stray from the pack in the land of geeks and nerds and film afficianados.....

Grindhouse I think is going to be a lot like Masters of Horror and Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Great in concept, but not so great in execution. When you have a short horror film with not enough time for character development or pacing + over the top everything due to directors trying to 'out-cool' each other makes you realize after about 10 minutes of watching it that you don't give 2 shits if you ever see the remaining 40 minutes. In just about every movie genre, too many 'money shots' in too short a time makes you stop caring very quickly.

This film is an homage to the Grindhouse flicks of the 70s. They were so bad they were good. I get it. I saw the footage QT and RR presented at Comic Con and it looks to be a rollicking good popcorn double feature. Why hate when there's so much fun to be had with this?

Goddamn that is one awesome trailer. I love Rodriguez for making this movie. Danny Trejo as an ass-kicking sonuvabitch named Machete and Rose McGowan as a hottie with a big-ass gun for a leg. And blood and guts and zombies, too. Words do not exist in the English language to describe how utterly cool this movie promises to be.

Just remove the space between "v =" like this: "v=". Don't know why it won't just take it?!
