Having back surgery about two weeks before the event kicks off, so it's pointless even to enter this year. Not that there's been any point to entering ANY year. I give up. Enjoy, Harry n' kids. I sure wish you'd do these things more often, Harry, and let more first-timers snag choice seats. Some of us aren't gettin any younger, you know!!!!! =(

BNAT can't be moved, because the Alamo Drafthouse can't be moved and an integral part of the fest is that environment and experience. It's an experience that people have flown from New Zealand, India, China, France, England, Norway and Germany to attend. It's all about how far you're willing to go for a perfect 24 hour experience with the greatest audience of filmlovers you'll ever spend time with.
And people from Manchester too...

Has there ever been an Irishman at the BNAT ? They reason i ask is that i will be willing to take one for the team and let you fly me over there for free to represent the Irish nation for the first time . Also if you wanted to put me up for a few nights , i'd let you do that too , thats just the type of selfless bloke that i am .

I don't understnad why you'd be posting on this site if you didn't share a love of film that all of us here do. BNAT is a chance to see classics and new features together with an audience that shares your passion for movies all in 24 hours... if you don't think that's the coolest damn thing you've ever heard, I dunno what you're doing here.

It's a blast...every single year. Talking about getting the films as rentals just shows how this isn't the event for you. It's about the group experience of watching film, no matter what the film is, in the greatest movie theater you'll ever be fortunate enough to numb your butt in.

1) Full Name and Aliases Victor Ezra Randolph/GalaxyMan2k/Vezran/Do odlyDingDongTickTock 2) If you have a website/myspace/live journal/ blog type of thing - what is the URL? Sorry. 3) Age 18 4) Male or Female? Male 5) First R rated Movie You Ever Saw? Alien when I was three-years old. I swear to you, I shit my pants in the chest-burst scene. My brother, who was 12, is a sadistic bastard. 6) Biggest Guilty Film Pleasure? Big Trouble in Little China 7) Occupation? Student 8) Where you currently live? Santa Cruz, California 9) Best Film You Have Seen Thus Far This Year? Jet Li's Fearless 10) Weirdest Film You Have Ever Seen? Dead-Alive 11) If you could be any film character and could explore yourself, who would you be and what would you do? (maximum of 150 words) I would be Snake Plisken, I would time travel back to 2001 and start anarchy. Maybe save the country. 12) What did you think of the portrayal of the Phoenix Storyline in X3, if you saw it? (maximum of 150 words) I was disapointed that it was rushed. I think the Hellfire Club is a really important element of X-Men, and they were totally written out. The killing of Xavier like that also felt like a cheap trick. I think trying to do the entire Phoenix Saga in one film is irresponsible. There are a lot of great lines in the X-Men universe that would have fit better into that one film. 13) What 3 future films that you could reasonably pray to see at BNAT do you most hope you'll see? Hot Fuzz, Grindhouse, 300 14) What 3 vintage films do you most wish to see on the big screen at BNAT? Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, La Noche del Terror Ciego, Full Metal Jacket 15) If you could live happily ever after with any film character ever - who would it be and why? (maximum of 150 words) I choose Jennifer Connelly in Mulholland Falls before she got crushed. Dude, look at her. Holy shit. 16) If you could possess one film prop, what prop would you possess? Shaun's cricket bat. 17) What film most warped you? A Scanner Darkly 18) Why do you want to come to Butt-Numb-A-Thon 8? (maximum of 350 words) Because I chose my major at UCSC as Film and Digital Media. Now that I'm up here though, I have doubts. I feel like I should do something more serious. I have tons of dreams of movies. Ideas, plans, half-completed scripts, storyboards. And I hear people say follow your dreams all the time, but it's hard. Doing the film school route, it feels like these people don't love movies. They're just a bunch of old white guys wanking off to each other's trivial bullshit. I want to come to BNAT just to be surrounded by like-minded folks. Also, I want to go the Alamo Draft House so bad. I want to see Austin so bad. Thanks man. 19) Have you ever attended a BNAT, if so, which ones? No, sir. 20) If not - have you tried to get in and couldn't? No, sir. EC: Moriarty can't be as cool as Harry Knowles because Knowles is large and in charge. He's also a ginger kid. That makes him pro. AND. Knowles was in the extras on the Spaced DVD, which makes him a pymp. The kid NEEDS to be called, Logan Plisken Knowles. Logan can go both ways too. See how on top of things I am? The pic is my home-constructed Speed Racer costume. I bought that helmet for 60 bucks just to make it complete. http://i63.photobucket.com/alb ums/h127/STICK1000/55d3dc90.jp g

I know it seems expensive to fly to Austin for it for a lot of folks, but honeslty, it's worth it. If you're unemployed, well, yeah, I wouldn't suggest flying in from the UK or even Seattle. But if you've got a job, eat Ramen for a few months to pay off the plane tickets, because it's absolutely worth it. And once you go, you want to go back.

... I will make BNAT this year. I will. I will sift through the family photo albums until I find that perfectly, awe-inspiringly humiliating photograph that some asshole in my family took when I was little kid. I will dedicate hours to the question of which movie character I would be, and why. All you fuckers are hereby on official notice: I will loot, pillage and plunder if I have to. I will take on all comers in Thunderdome, except Juggfuckler. Be prepared for DeadlySilentNinjaCracker to perch in the tree outside your door, ready to snatch the tickets from your cold, lifeless hand after he takes your head off with the flying guillotine. I will make it to BNAT this year, and woe be to any hapless sum'bitch who happens to stand in my way. And now, back to your regularly scheduled talkback.

Last year thousands (under 10k) applied for a seat. Many of those were groups, pairs, singles. From all walks of life. In addition, this celebration is an AICN annual get together - and triples for my birthday celebration. Each year - there are about 115 seats up for public grabs. Half of those will be chosen from local Austinites. The other half are from around the country and world. It's tough to choose and it's hard to get in, but eventually - for those that make it, they help out a great charity here in Austin, attend an amazing event and have an experience that few will ever get to partake in.

Went to BNAT7 and it was great. The $60 ticket price covered a dozen films... five bucks each towards a good cause. And let's not forgot the prize pack which was probably worth double the cost of admission anyway. I'd have loved to apply to go to BNAT8 this year but will be busy. Just as well... this year's application requires more writing than your average J. K. Rowling book.

It's the Austin-vibe that makes it cool. As somebody who's been to the San Diego Comic-Con off and on since 1985 I can attest to the fact that it was in some ways cooler when it was more of a home-town event rather than the monster it is today (there are even some recent vistors who have bitched that it should be moved.) It's still cool, but it doesn't have the same "hanging with fellow kin" kind of feeling it once had. There are even some SD-geeks that don't even go anymore cuz it's just too crazy. Bringing in too many folks from the outside would kind of rob BNAT of it's identity and charm methinks. It's about being a part of their world for a couple days. A few new friends from other parts getting a chance to see how they do it down in Austin. It's the locals that are your guide and the ones that make that theater probably THE coolest place in the world to see a flick. That's what made it special for me and my buddy when we went. We damn near wanted to move there afer our trip. I'd love be invited to hang with Harry and friends again, and be a part yet another TRUE movie experience.

Best seat in the house

The theater is relatively small, so every single seat offers a great view. I went last year, and I was assigned to the next-to-last row. In a megaplex I would hate to sit so far back, but at the Drafthouse it was awesome. One note-- sitting next to the aisles is good if you have to pee a lot, since you are in your seat for 24+ hours. Oh yeah--the last row is couches, so those are probably the best seats, comfort-wise.

Sorry if I sent this twice--my computer froze. The Drafthouse is relatively small, so every seat is really awesome. The last row is comprised of couches, so those are probably the best seats for BNAT because of the comfort.

Best BNAT moment

The best thing about BNAT is just meeting all the cool, friendly people. Last year there was a pre-BNAT party at Pedazo Chunk (Harry's sister's store), and it was awesome. I seriously made a ton of friends, and everyone was super-nice and eager to socialize. It was like Freshman Orientation at Geek University. My other memory was at about 3am I was chatting to this girl about the delicious fried pickles at the Drafthouse-- only later did I realize she was one of the stars of Hostel (I think her name is Natasha).

Probably the end of TEENAGER MOTHER and/or the end of TOYS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN. TEENAGE MOTHER ends with the world's most painfully antiseptic, emotionless, faceless "birth" ever captured on film. And it is icky. And then... breakfast. TOYS ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN ends and after the credits roll someone blurts out "Damn you Tim! Boobies are supposed to be fun!"
Far too many to name ...

But off the top of my head I have to say I loved every moment of each one I have been to. I really loved all the new friends I have made over the years. And I can't wait to see all my friends reactions at all the weight I have lost in the last year (if I get in). God I love BNAT. I love the Tim & Carrie, Harry, Father Geek, Quint, Rae, Eli, painful films, Masawyrm, and all the other people who make BNAT great. But mostly I hope I am there to see the look of sheer madness on Yoko's face as it slowly dawns on her over the course of the night what she has gotten herself into ...

You'll find (if you ever attend one of these wonderfull events) that it about more than the actual movies you see. It's about the people you see the movies with. The moments inbetween the films that make it so memorable. I just hope one day you'll get the chance to see what I am talking about.

Too many to mention. Having a real-life Oz munchkin talk about how honored he felt being on that movie... Weeping as Sam carries Frodo and turning around and seeing damn near everyone weeping with me... the "Got to give it up for that" applause at the end of the log traffic wreck in NIGHT WARNING... Mori announcing to everyone that he's going to be a dad... watching Harry lose his composure when he's talking about how great the LOTR films are to Peter Jackson... oh, the RAIDERS remake done with kids. That was a great moment... the double whammy of kickassosity that was ONG BAK/KUNG-FU HUSTLE... Rita Hayworth in 3D... man. Don't get me started.
Well then, good luck to all

the breakfast after the birthing. :) It was all eggs and salsa. It was disturbingly reminding of afterbirth. I also loved the after-the-movie murmur after OldBoy. The most common review: "Well, that was fucked up." I also remember the monkey movie making me cry. *sniff sniff* Stupid monkey! Also, Salome and everything about it. The use of the "transporter" to get a copy of LOTR: FOTR to the Drafthouse. Oh, and the... buffalo wings. During THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA someone ordered buffalo wings. Let me tell you, your initial order never made it to you. It made it to the floor in the aisle right next to where we were sitting. No one bothered to clean it up. The rest of BNAT those wings were slowly ground into the carpet of the aisle and the smell of wings sauce wafted throughout the evening, but never as strong as during TPOTA. I can never seen that Phantom mask now without also smelling buffalo wings.

Boba's email made me crack up-- Yeah, I guess talking to an actress sounds like a lame best memory, but it was still pretty funny. I was chatting with her for like 10 minutes, and then Eli Roth walked up to me and asked if I recognized her from the movie. I was like, "Huh?" But in all seriousness, I truly agree with the others-- it's about the people you meet, and sharing a 24+ hour film experience with them. The people sitting to your right and left will become your family for the weekend. You can go into the Drafthouse knowing no one and leave with a huge group of pals. It's really incredible.

Oh yeah. BNAT5's standing ovation for Peter Jackson at the end of ROTK. We probably had to ditch one of the movies in the lineup to make up for time lost because we applauded so long. Probably the actual highlight of BNAT5 was THE GENERAL with Guy Forsyth and his band playing. That was a piece of movie going magic that I will always keep in my heart like nothing else. That was nothing short of transcendent.

That really was cool. I had forgotten about that, I guess because it was so early in the night and so much amazing shite happened right after, and after that, and after that! Harry, I sent in my bidness just now from my juno account. Allah and Shatner be with me! All you haters, if you are smart, MOVE TO AUSTIN! man, I think one of my fave memories has been at like 6 am loaning my toothbrush to a very needy Mongo. I got a pic of him coming out of the men's room with such a smile on his freshly brushed teeth and while wearing hot-pink fuzzy slippers no less! It makes me laugh, and when I saw him the next year he remembered me immediately. Maybe it helped that that year my hair was hot pink, I don't know. I loved smallerdemon's BNAT-retrospective DVD that I got in the mail a few weeks later, and having Chariot Races with the bike-rickshaw guys downtown back to our hotel while Vegas and Norlding and I yelled lines from Ben Hur to each other while urging the bikers onward. Oh yeah, I did see some kick ass movies. I bought the british dvd set of OLDBOY as soon as I could, months before it came out here just so I could make people watch it and go WOW like we did that year. And when I didn't get it back I re-bought the 3 disc set in English R1 because I think it's worth it. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the band with The General. It's cool to say I watched a movie 'with' Peter Jackson! There's too many extra wonderful things about BNAT, and I hope to come back this year. OH! and Zee German! I loved him. WE adopted a German film student studying in America. He even stayed at my hotel with me and my brother as we didn't want him to stay in an iffy hostel. I mean, Eli Roth was there, he knows what it's like! He's not able to come this year, but I will gladly send him some swag if I get it this year.
