Let's get a real 'actress' and not just a pretty face like Holmes in Batman. I heard Famke Janssen's name is floating round, but I'm not feeling it. I'd love Rachel McAdams personally, she's a great actress - and mighty fine... As for Howard, great casting. It's took me a while to get back in the zone after Downey's casting, but now I'm all for it. Can't wait!

Iron Man has some of the lamest villians EVER! If they stick with a modern/retro feel to the film, then The Mandarin would rock as the main baddie. Seriously! But after that? Ol' bucket head has jack. MODOK, Man-Bull, Melter, Crimson Dynamo, Grey Gargoyle, Titanium Man...and dudes with names like Sunturion and Living Laser for crying out loud! CRAPITTY-CRAP-CRAP! Those am some lame enemies. I've never heard anyone utter "Man! How awesome would it be to see Iron Man fight Unicorn in a live action movie?" So what will we get? Either: Tony vs. the Bottle or Iron Man vs. corprate rival that is using a stolen Iron Man prototype. And from what I've seen, we won't even get a remotely classic looking suit of aromor. It will be classic crimson and gold, but the designs lean towards an unatractive Ultimate Optimus Iron Megatron Man monstrosity. Sheer ugliness. I hope they change that. Even great, well casted actors can end up looking like fools in a poorly realized flick.

Looking forward to the movie. I've actually liked most of the superhero flicks to date, the exception being "Hulk"; it just didn't work for me. Didn't hate it, just don't plan on ever watching again. Had a pleasant surprise recently when I finally caught F4 on HBO in HD. I never got around to catching in a theatre, so I thought I see what they did. Overall, it was pretty good. Not Spiderman or Batman Begins great, but not "Hulk" or "Steel" bad either. Iron Man was not my favorite comic growing up, but I did read more than a few issues. So, I have some idea of what I'd like to see on film. Favreau is pretty good and I'm liking the casting so far. If they get a good script and a decent villain, this could be a first tier superhero flick.

It's frakking 2006!!
While the actress is definately hot, is there any REAL reason to alter Jessica Jones' race? I've never read Luke Cage before so if there is, then inform me.

T. Howard is not the exact look for good ol' Rhodes, but his acting style and ability will bring great life to that part. Good fit. Downey is not Iron Man though. Forget look (which I do think that he looks nothing like Tony Stark) He is just the wrong style. He is either "quirky flamboyant" in his demeanor or tight and clipped. Tony Stark in neither. He's James Bond circa Goldfinger and Thunderball, with a higher emphasis on suave party host and savvy business man and a little less on gritty man with gun. I don't have the perfect answer for the casting. Although I think George Clooney is more on the right track. HOLD ON, HOLD ON! I know. He doesn't look like Iron Man either. He's got the baggage of playing the same thing typically and being part of the possibly worst superhero movie ever. True. But he is the right style. That one character he plays over and over. It is Tony Stark or pretty damn close. Danny Ocean + moustache = Tony Stark. The debonair stylish and confident cat that evokes the brat pack and late 60's cool with ease. THAT'S TONY STARK. I collected from 1983 - 1995, and during that period bought 80% of the back issues going back to #1. I have not been part of the lastest stuff. Maybe Downey suits the latest "ultimates" version of Iron Man, but that's not my Iron Man. That's some MTV gen, hyped-up, trying to be ultra-cool. Give me my old Iron Man. And on another note, I love Iron Man's rogue's gallery. It's PULP. It's fun. I would be damn excited to see Stane sending out various baddie's like the head baddie in a Bond movie would send out henchmen. George Tuska, Herb Trimpe, Carmine Infatino, early John Romita Jr. w/ Bob Layton. That's Iron Man. If you don't know who those guys are... it's time to hit your local comic book shop and see the foundation of 'ol shellhead.
Hopefully,

Iron Man villains
by Petro45
Oct 10th, 2006
09:52:13 AM
Negative Man, I agree that Iron Man has some lame villains, but think outside the box a bit. Some of his best villains aren't the guys he actually fights, but rather the masterminds controlling the guys he fights. How cool would it be if they did the Armor Wars storyline for the sequel? Main villains could be Justin Hammer (the weapons dealer) and Spymaster (industrial saboteur who steals Stark's technology). Hammer would use Stark's tech to create his own army of armored villains -- then, all the lame baddies you mentioned could be used, not as the primary villains, but as cannon fodder. You could have cool battle scenes involving Iron Man vs. Beetle, Blizzard, Stilt-Man, Force, Unicorn, etc., etc. But since Hammer and Spymaster remain the main villains, and the other guys are just eye candy, you don't run the risk of the Batman effect (too many villains ruining the movie)
Iron Man shoutouts on Eureka?

Anyone catch the SciFi show Eureka (which was much better than I expected)? It has a character with the last name Stark who looks incredibly like the 80's version of TS with the moustache? He runs a secret, hi-tech research facility and in the season finale, in an alternate timeline, he had his own company, Stark Industries. Isn't that a copyright infringement? But this guy certainly could play Iron Man if it was a tv show. Don't worry about Downey, though. Just because he plays quirky characters, doesn't mean he can't pull off Tony. The boy can act.

Justin Hammer in his darkened office hearing the news that Iron Man has defeated Melter. He leans back, arching his fingers together as he delivers: "Spymaster has informed me that Iron Man has defeated Melter...MODOK, send forth your Sunturion. That will keep Stark distracted from our ultimate goal of..." (place Ultimate Goal here. Though, I prefer that Hammer plots to steal the cream filling out of every Hostess Twinkie.) It's always been the same box with ol' Iron pants. And not a box of delicious Hostess Fruit Pies, but understanding the better Iron Man stories involved other major characters' villians. Dr. Doom for example... But Stark's Rogues Gallery is, again, lame. I say do one movie and then form a small Avengers film.

but I'm still not convinced Favreau is the right director for this material. After all, in comic book movies it's always equal parts cast and director that elevate the movie to transcend its genre. James Franco and Kirstin Dunst do not a great movie make, but Sam Raimi is a great director on all fronts, and he knows just what to do. Fingers crossed that Favreau can do the same, given his players.

would be so fun. But despite that, I fucking hate Mandarin, so I hope they don't use him..at all He's just your standard lame cliche'd supervillian. They need to make Armor Wars for the big screen, cast someone as Obadiah Stane. someone who isn't just your standard mustachioed bad guy. sit back and enjoy. Oh, and the CGI better not suck. The armor has to look semi realistic, can't be just some cartoony-looking CGI-fest. Lets get real here, Iron Man's armor was rather svelte y'know? very form fitting and slim. I don't think they could pull that off without it looking extremely fake. So I for one would forgive them if they made the armor bulkier for the sake of realism.
