Soundtrack? I thought it was just "The boys are back in town."? Maybe I was laughing too much at Slimer's wacky antics. Oh, that Slimer. Is there nothing he won't eat? Or...slime.

Okay, on a more serious note. Is ectoplasm the physical residue of the paranormal activities of dead souls? Or is it just ghost cum?

In cell biology, ectoplasm ("outer plasma") refers to the outer regions of the cytoplasm of a cell. Ectoplasm typically contains a smaller amount of protein granules and other organic compounds than inner cytoplasm, also referred to as endoplasm.
In parapsychology, ectoplasm is a hypothetical form of dense bio-energy which is claimed to make possible the materialisation of ghosts and psychokinesis.
Ectoplasm is also a term used to describe the vapour appearing on the wings of an aircraft when it is performing high-energy manoeuvres. Typically this effect is seen by most people at airshows during modern jet fighter aerobatic displays. See also St. Elmo's Fire. This effect also has other names in other parts of the world. The study of this effect was the focus of the famous Philadelphia experiment.
Ectoplasm is also one of the many cocktails made with vodka. It is an exotic cocktail made by adding vodka to crushed nutmeg, heavy cream, and lemon juice.

such a great score, and film. Thanks for the heads-up about it being on iTunes. Now, if only John Williams' brilliant score to Robert Altman's "Images" was on CD or iTunes...
So, no news on John Williams?

I'm just curious if he's doing anything in the next twelve months. Great article, ScoreKeeper! I laughed out loud at your comment re: THE ANT BULLY being a communist manifesto. Priceless. Ok, be good, SK, you da man!

Yeah that sucks big time. Although there was never a "batmanesque" theme song, it was all good stuff. It matched the bright and sunny comic version of NY. Let's hope this "Christopher Young" (if thats his real name) is up to it. -IMDB lists him as having done lotsa stuff like The Dorm That Dripped Blood and Dark half to 90's action like Virtuocity and Hard Rain......hmm..

I dare anyone to listen to track 5 and not become an Elfman geek. and I think he may finally win his oscar for "Charlotte's Web". and can't wait to hear the "Flooding of Isengard" in 5.1

It hasn't been reported that Williams is officially attached to anything yet other than Steven Spielberg's upcoming Abe Lincoln movie which is still a ways down the road. He's on call for Indy IV as well if/when that happens. Elfman is not doing Spider-Man 3. Apparently Chris Young did quite a bit of Spider-Man 2 as it is. I agree losing Elfman is lame but if you're going to replace him, Chris Young is a great choice.

"Ghostbusters" not *quite* complete...

Unfortunately, "every single cue Bernstein wrote for the film, whether it was used or not" is a bit of an overstatement. (Bad memories of "The Phantom Menace: Ultimate Edition" marketing campaign! ;-) ) There's several minutes of material not on the Varese club disc. A close examination of the two bootleg score CDs (and the film itself) reveals several score cues (mostly short), a few alternates, and a couple of pieces of source music still missing. The music on the Varese disc has also been compressed somewhat to raise the overall volume. Nevertheless, it remains an indispensible disc, and I'm very happy to have it sitting on my shelf alongside "The Great Escape" and "Marie Ward". (People don't know what they're missing with "Marie Ward", by the way ... it's been up for five years at a reduced price, limited to 3,000 copies, and it's still available! Fans of the aforementioned Bernstein scores would do well to snap up a copy while they can!) Thanks for the heads-up re: "The Black Cauldron" ... I'll be downloading that this weekend! Regarding the Spidey films, I wouldn't go so far as to say Chris Young wrote "quite a bit" of Spidey 2 ... furthermore, I wasn't terribly impressed with his cues, while I adore Elfman's scoring. Hence, I'm not so keen on Young replacing Elfman on Spidey 3 ... I'm already steeling myself for another "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" experience. But we'll see what he comes up with. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Great post! I went and ordered "Marie Ward" as soon as I finished reading it. I don't know the score or the film at all so I'm excited to dive into something "new." Varese's Soundtrack Club is really excellent. Just about anything they release is worth picking up. I missed "The Great Escape" release and have been kicking myself ever since. Thanks too for the "Ghostbusters" info. I'm still extremely happy with it.
Nice article, thanks SK.

With Williams, it looks like he's semi-retired now except for any Spielberg/Lucas stuff that might come up. ScoreKeeper, did you hear the story behind Harry Potter 5? Is williaams not doing it because he turned it down or because they didn't offer it to him in the first place? I know the guy doing it hasn't done much (if any) film but is a buddy of the director. (For the record, I was glad to see Doyle step in for 4, I like his stuff and was starting to get tired of the repetition of the main themes when JW was doing it)
