He looks handsome. I hope tideland is better than Brothers Grimm. And that the PKD movie is badass.
Spooky, as I'm watching The Fisher King at the moment.

I just wish I had the balls to stand out on the street with a sign like that, just imagine the amount of attention I could draw to myself. It was pretty cool though.

I'm not in any of these pictures? I don't live in New York City? I'm not and I don't. Gilliam, you're a studio-less, homeless crack-whore bum. You're not?

Good to see a film maker who is willing to put in all the hard work. He could just sit back and piss and moan about the state of the industry. Go Terry.

Terry Gilliam is the best successor to Federico Fellini we have. Noone has better sense of the grotesque and a more foundational understanding of magic realism. If it is indeed true that he is not attached to a studio, that is a damn shame. I thought the reason studios made so many "popcorn" movies was to raise funding so that bonafied visionaries like Gilliam can have room to play and engage their creative spirit without having their hands tied by nervous, bottom-line obsessed bean counters. Why can't one studio grow some balls and say "you know what, lets give Gilliam as much money as he needs and let him run with this and finish a movie HIS WAY for a change". I can't wait to see Tideland.

Can't wait to see what he has in store. Brothers Grimm was a misstep in an otherwise sterling career and even during shooting the problems on that film mounted. it sounds like with Tideland Gilliam got to do what he wanted. I;m also looking forward to seeing Jeff Bridges, at this point in his career it seems he is a quirky directors wet dream.

I don't know if I'd call it "impromptu," though, as we all knew when and where in advance. I do wonder... what do you talk to him about? I mean, would it piss him off to say, I love your Python stuff, or, 12 Monkeys was the shit! He doesn't seems to have stopped looking forward...
I'd have asked him about donkey shows

you know, asked him where they do the best ones with the hottest girls. After what I read on the Tideland website seemingly years ago Gilliam really loves him some donkey shows. Of course maybe he was kidding.

By his standards The Brothers Grimm was appalling trash. By Hollywood's current standards, The Brothers Grimm was like Lawrence of Arabia. Looking forward to Tideland.
Studio support

The fact that Gilliam has no studio support is a crime. Who the fuck are these bozos running the studios? Do they really think audiences want to see My Super-Ex Girlfriend instead of Gilliam's work? Fuck em. It might become my life work to track these guys down and publicly humiliate them for their stupidity. Anybody with me?!

seeing those pics of him out on the street, goofing it with his fans, both genuinely upsets me and makes me smile. i mean, i know he did it coz he has a snarky sense of humor, but it points out a problem that has plagued him his entire career. it IS a crime he has no and has had no support for his entire career. want a serious wake-up call? watch 'lost in la mancha.' i teach a film class and gilliam's work is always in the forefront of my lectures as an example of what we should aspire to as filmmakers.
Those pictures are hilarious.

"Did you have to shake them all into a blender and take a giant dump inside before pressing the puree button?" Or at least, that's what I would have asked if I'd been there. Oh, and, "Did we REALLY need a Robin Williams nude scene? Are you SURE the world couldn't have progressed to the state we're in WITHOUT everyone knowing how much hair Robin Williams has?" Disturbing man-ape comparisons aside, I did enjoy the "Fisher King". But "The Brothers Grimm" was such an abysmally awful movie, it makes me made just REMEMBERING that I spent two hours trapped in a theatre with that cinematic equivalent of nuclear waste.

He also did a Q&A screening at the IFC center on 4th St. last night, of a 1991 Belgian flick called Toto the Hero. He was really friendly and personable, handling even people's aggro questions ("Will you cameo in my movie?") with aplomb. Plus, he signed my Brazil swag...all in all, a class act!

Although it seems the book is great, specially being kind of a kid's tale... not for kids. It's a shame big studios have always picked on Gilliam, I believe he's loosing confidence.

..that Terry doesn't have a studio deal or any support/grounding to get his projects like Good Omens off the ground. It's such a shame, I really want to see that movie. Great book. But Gilliam wouldn't be Gilliam if he compromised on his own feelings... if he's good at anything, it's speaking his own mind and laying himself pretty open. That's how I see him, anyway.

OK, just had a thought... I haven't seen Brothers Grimm (thankfully) but I did check out the production art. So if Gilliam doesn't have a studio, let's get the guy involved in art direction of a video game. I want "Paper Mario," art direction by Terry Gilliam. Seriously folks.

There maybe one out there. Over here in the UK we had a russian football geek billionaire that bought a club (Chelsea) and spent hundreds of millions on a manager and players. Surely there is someone out there that loves movies instead. Someone that could give Terry 50 million and say "Do what you want." I mean come on, this is the guy that made Time Bandits ffs!!!
