Forget Star Trek, Forget Alias, Forget 24, Forget all of the other comparisons you want to make. This isn't science fiction as we've seen it on Television since the days of Rod Serling. What i just watched was a retelling not of ancient Greek, or of the bible, but of The Battle of Algiers. Holy Frak! These guys are definitely NOT shying away from political messages! They are embracing the medium, and using every trick in the bag to convey ideas and critique. For those who don't see it, rent "Red Dawn" and then sit down and watch the nightly news for a few minutes. Well done boys.

Obviously, this whole thing with the survivors of the Galactica being held prisoners by the Cylons on New Caprica can't last forever. At some point, the producers are going to have to get them back into space. BUT HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO PULL IT OFF? Doubtlessly, they'll come up with something ingenious, as always. This show just keeps getting more and more twisted... and compelling. Naysayers who complain that this isn't the original Galactica can go frak themselves. It's like complaining that Batman Begins wasn't anything like the old 60's television series. This is sci-fi television as good as its probably ever been. Gene Roddenberry, rest his soul, never had anything on Ronald Moore and David Ecke. I'm rewatching all my DVD's as we speak. In two days I'll be just like the rest of the fanboys/girls, salivating at the holy telly, awaiting each new episode in gleeful anticipation. And we still haven't gotten to see Apollo's fat suit! Oh and for the guy who wondered how Tigh got in prison. The producers have promised the flashbacks will fill in the gaps between the setdown on New Caprica, the Cylon invasion and the current occupation. I imagine he went into his angry drunk mode and took it out on some toasters. Personally, I think it was smart to do a bit of time skipping, as it sets the show in a new era and forces it to stay fresh. I predict that by the time the Kobol survivors get back into space, they'll have have seen the Cylons begin to factionalize and will have to make a sketchy alliance with their new semi-human allies, some of whom will tag along with them when its time to go. This will keep things fresh once they're back in space. I think the show is always at its most fascinating when it show the humans and Cylons interacting with each other. Dean Stockwell seems to be channeling his most dastardly Blue Velvet persona this season. I can't wait to see what they do with his character(s)...

i was thinking about this.. remember how one of the raptors jumped inside a mountain during the rescue mission on caprica? well how about a kamikaze mission with the non essential ships in the fleet being jumped in the cores of the base stars.. if it comes down to firepower I can't see galactica/pegasus being able to win.. but this could work. Not that it's real or anything...

I don't get it. God Damn Battlestar is even Filmed in Canada, yet SciFi won't let me view the videos. I can't view the webisodes, and I can't view this preview. On top of that, they maliciously go after anyone who posts a copy so the rest of us can see it. What a nice kick to the face and neck of the BattleStar fans around the world NBC!

My dark hopes for BSG
by tidge

Is that we (eventually, no rush)get a third force in the BSG 'universe'...akin to the Count Iblis/Beings of Light of the original series. We've got lots of hints that there are spiritual and metaphysical manipulations occuring; I douldn't be non-plussed to discover some Loki-like manipulations of both Cyclon and Human species happening...besides, it's the only way I can fan-explain the psychic presence of Six/Gaius in each others' heads.

...in addition to Adama's nukes, the Resistance will likely have to get their hands on some Cylon weaponry too - maybe through one of Henry Fool's factions (via Six?). Also, Kara's ability to fly Cylon raiders could come in handy...Good idea about Adama's nukes though. It was nukes that led the Cylons to New Caprica and it could be nukes that help them get away. That would be a crazy turn of events.

Not only was it the nuke that led the Cylons to New Caprica, but it was the Cylon nuclear attack the started the whole thing in the first place. I would find it VERY compelling should Adama turn the tables on the Cylons by threatening them with the same fate as the one they delivered to the 12 Colonies. Regardless of how they do it, Adama is the man.

Well, I just finished my marathon catch-up on DVD this weekend, and I'm pretty hooked. As much as I was enjoying it, it was the Gaius-in-Six's head mindfuck episode that really put me over the edge and it just got even more intense after that. Really looking forward to where they plan on taking it this year.

Great, great opening. I'm really hoping they can cast off the stink of season 2.5 (the lame guest star episodes). Here's what I'm NOT looking forward to: 1)the bullshit relationship forced upon Lee and Dee. 2) Lee's fatsuit and inevitable Rocky-esque workout montage to shed the pounds. 3) The overuse of the word "frak". Here's what I AM looking forward to: 1) An eye-patched Tigh leading an underground revolution. 2) "Downloaded" Boomer meeting Chief with his new wife and baby. 3) Gaius Baltar. 4) Spikey-hair cylon dude courting Starbuck some more.

I'd choose to reveal that this is set far in Earth's future, where our descendents have spread sufficiently far from home to have lost track of it. That way Galactica can begin to encounter advanced 'alien' humans long before finding earth, perhaps by the end of series 3, and this would provide enough interest and new characters to keep it going for (hopefully) another eight series at least.. I think this idea was explored in the original BSG as well, at least before Galactica 1980 came along.. Just something I was thinking the other day..
torrents baby

06:27:13 PM
for those not in the us, there are torrents of it available out there somewhere. As far as nukes are concerned, don't they have a limited supply? WHen Baltar wanted one for his Cylon detecter, I know that Adama said something like that. However, that was before Pegasus, so that may not be relevant. As for the preview, that was pretty hardcore. The middleeastern music playing while they are showing bomb making and prisoners? Not much for subtlety are they? I thought the sex with Tigh's wife was a bit much, but the parallelism with Starbuck made it ok. I like the idea of Starbuck routinely killing the cylon only to have him come back the next day. The Sisyphus-like nature of that is compelling. One thing I noticed that I had forgotten was that when the Battlestar's jumped, so did the other ships in the fleet. So I wonder how many people actually leaped and how many are on New Caprica (and wouldn't the people from the other colonies be a bit pissed at that name? Which also begs the question about what has gone on with the other colonies. They made the rescue mission for Starbuck's man on Caprica, but surely there are survivors on the other colonies too.)

I've seen the first 5 episodes...really fantastic, really dark... ********Slight and vague SPOILERS******** yeah, they're back in space eventually, but if you even look at the episode names you can probably guess when. What's crazy is that basically Tyrol, Tigh, and Starbuck's football boyfriend are the main characters for the first few episodes. And the tonal sense of darkness really continues for the characters beyond New Caprica and onto the Galactica. But it works. Among the best episodes of the series.

Your premise might work if it weren't for the BSG human population's polytheistic religion. Ancient Earth civilations (Greeks, Romans, etc.) shared this belief. As our civilization progressed, monotheistic religions (Christianity, Judism, Islam) became more commonly accepted. To set BSG in our distant future would mean that the world population, en masse, would have reverted to ancient religious beliefs. Talk about fiction...if there's one thing the people of this world CANNOT agree on, it's religion.

Dirk Benedict: Every character trait I struggled to give him was met with vigourous resistance. A charming womaniser? The "Suits" (Network Executives) hated it. A cigar (fumerello) smoker? The Suits hated it. A reluctant hero who found humour in the bleakest of situations? The Suits hated it. All this negative feedback convinced me I was on the right track.

who really cares? Like it was stated before....its not like its Han Solo or anything. Trust me, I had issues about it when i first heard they were changing the sex of the character. We shouldnt be bitching that we have a female starbuck, what we should be bitching about is that we need a stronger Apollo. Dont get me wrong, Jamie Bamber is alright, but his voice is just too soft and he is just too laid back. He needs to get a little darker and more intense this season.

don't forget they pray in sanskrit, which is considered a "dead language", that predates latin. some say latin even comes from it. in any case, sanskrit was replaced with hindi in india, which shared ideas from its pantheon with the greeks frequently. the opening credits are a prayer in sanskrit called the gayatri mantra. in any case, not many people know the gayatri mantra, even among hindus. i'm familiar because i studied sanskrit, but i submit that the series must take place in the past if it even takes within our universe.

If Kara Thrace and Old Starbuck had a viper duel, O.S. would be one vaporized motherfucker. The old show was a lot of fun but it had absolutely no depth. None. I mean come on, we all loved Glen A. Larson before he turned into Martin Landau's character from Entourage but this is the guy who went on to create Knight Rider and The A-Team. His shows were shlock, plain and simple. Notice how he hasn't had a hit show since the 80's.

Just kidding. Billy's not coming back. But it would be kind of cool. Just because some of these characters are trusted members who've helped the Galactica doesn't mean they're not Cylons. Baltar is a pretty good candidate for Cylon infiltrator. It would imply a lot about why he has number six in his head. It would also shed light on why the Cylons keep threatening to kill him. If he had hidden protocols it would also explain alot about why number six was able to penetrate the colonial defense grid, not that that needs anymore explanation but it was an awfully big feet for one person to pull off alone. Maybe President Adair was a Cylon and we'll see Colm Feore return as the Cylon leader. Who knows? Maybe the kid from the mini-series is a Cylon and the crew from the Galactica will to help him find his dog or something. Maybe Kara's a Cylon and that's why they're so keen on making her sympathize with them... Maybe I'm a Cylon and I'm just trying frak with you all...

Yeah, Adama and Apollo were discussing Sharon at the time, but Adama's comment was meant to apply to the possibility of betrayal by any Cylon who has become "too human".
