Easy to win when you're the only one running. Ooooo "The Shadow Chrnoicles" could it be any more cheesy? I think not.

But after some recommendations I did watch the recent Haruhi Suzumiya anime. I'm aware that the anime was based off the manga and books...I'm also aware that there are a lot more stories in those than there were in the anime. Are there any plans yet to continue the anime series?

Why the hell is Hellsing Ultimate 44 bucks? They're only releasing the first one instead of the first two as originally planned, and even if they were going to release both at once, why's the price that flippin' high?

Hope Yosh can deliver on the sequel that I ehard he's making... I'm also excited to check out Devil May Cry, though I feel Capcom should've taken an 'Advent Children' route and done it in 3D with crazy badass fight scenes. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that it'll sell! Still though, Madhouse is a good choice of studio for it, and I hope Madhouse and Production IG could collaborate for a Metal Gear Solid anime :D And I fully agree on the Hellsing Ultimate deal... I think they should stick to the original plan and put two episodes on each. No way I'm paying that much for less. I just bought the original series boxset... and will continue buying the manga. It sucks that they've changed the music for the OVA. The series stuff was just classy!

Basilisk

Basilisk is an anime that could’ve been one of the great TV series (live action or animated) of all time. It has with all the right story elements for an epic saga and combines it with great direction, animation and voice acting. To start off, it’s centered around a classic battle between the legendary Iga and Koga ninja clans, it has romance and tragedy that spans generations, it shows the “human” side of all the characters in well defined three dimensional characters and relationships, it has a wide variety of unique ninja techniques that result in well choreographed fights that are a pure delight to the eyes and it’s produced with the intention of appealing to a mature audience which is the only way to go for the type of story they’re trying to tell. Ironically, it’s some of these very same elements that prevent Basilisk from being great. The biggest flaw is perhaps that it has too many major characters. This results in a story without a real character driven central thread to hold all the side stories together and often loses focus and strays away from the story it should be telling. Having too many characters also steals the limelight away from the main protagonists/antagonists for the audience to follow. In trying to show the human side of these characters, the authors wind up creating a war between two ninja clans where neither side is really “evil.” While this heightens the sense of tragedy (since essentially “good” people kill each other over nothing) it also prevents us from empathizing with any one side and feeling any real sense of emotion as characters die off. Overall though, it’s not all that bad especially if you like the action in Ninja Scroll. The ninja battles, by the way, are a great example of fight scenes that work precisly because they’re in anime form. While I like my Jet Li, Donnie Yen, (young) Jackie Chan and that guy from Ong Bak movies, their fights (including the wire-fu stuff) is still grounded and limited by the capabilities of a human being and the laws of physics and bio-mechanics. Anime (and to a degree CGI) is the only medium which allows any type of fight choreography the mind can imagine. Re: Death Note. Boy that movie looks disappointing. Seems pretty cheesy and the CGI for the Gods of Death looked awful. I still would like to see it though. Ditto these comments for the Sukeban Deka movie accept it hurts me more to see them ruin that series yet again. Re: Ginga Tetsudo. The original manga and TV series anime for GE999 were absolutely terrific. And the original Harlock and Yamato TV series were also brilliant. But somewhere along the way Matsumoto’s stuff seems to have started sucking. I hope this new series is more along the lines of the classic stuff…. not that I’ll be seeing it any time soon…
