Judging by his appearance on the Real World

I guess having something resembling a personality isn't a prerequisite to making it as a cartoonist.

Lack of personality aside, Winnick’s writing has always been mediocre at best. It frequently reminds me of bad fan fiction, but I can’t vouch for his current stuff, I stopped reading anything with his name on it a long time ago. His pacing in Green Lantern was some of the worst I have ever seen. EVER. It just seems like he only “made it” in comics because he was on television. Dave Eggers was right, Winnick is a boring, talentless douchebag (paraphrasing). Oh, and what's up with backing down to Puck during the reunion. How lame was that?

I stopped reading comics regularly three years ago. Back then Winnick was unreadable - every title he moved to he thrust a gay character into the mix. Has he finally let Pedro go or is he still pushing the gay characters into every title he writes?
I think the guy gets a bad rap...

For being on TV. No wait, that's exactly why he gets a bad rap! He's made some good stuff in the past, but people treat him like a big fucking A-List writer who keeps dissapointing them, when he's not a big fucking A-List writer.
he's a dirty hack

i have never understood how/why exiles can steal the concept from quantum leap and not catch any shit about it. Also I think he wrote a 5 week Green Latern thing that completely ripped off Fight club. It ends with GL putting a gun in his mouth.

Whenever I see him walking around Noe Valley I just want to beat the shit out of him for ruining Green Arrow. Can't Aidsy the sidekick just fucking die now? The minute he's off Bob's cock is the minute he's out of comics.
Exiles and Quantum Leap

Isn't Exiles more of a Sliders rip-off? And to be fair, it's such a no-brainer idea in terms of comics, I'm surprised DC didn't have a team or single hero ravelling throughout the Multiverse in the days before Crisis on Infinite Earths. And just like Exiles reminds me of Sliders, Sliders reminded me of the Multiverse. But I didn't call Slideres a rip off because it was enjoyable, and I suspect people don't call Exiles a rip off for the same reason. (I've never read Exiles, but I've always loved the concept.)
Gay gay gay!

Not only are there gay characters in almost everything this guy writes, there are also heterosexual characters in almost everything he writes! I mean, the guy is totally obsessed with the gay and hetero thing! If I wanted to read the "hetero and gay adventures", I wouldn't read "Batman"!

Quantum Leap-a higher power moves a guy around time to set things right that are wrong. Exiles-a higher power moves a group of mutants around the multiverse to set things right that are wrong.

We tear into the guy pretty good in part two of the interview and Judd gives back as good as he gets. I came out of the interview with a new kind of appreciation for the guy. I'm not a fan of all his work, but I have given the guy positive and negative reviews and he knew this going into the thing. Just stay tuned, this was just a taste. The second part is where it gets good.

The guy isn't a hack from what I've seen and read of him. His Batman stuff was pretty good (The issue with Nightwing and Batman fighting the Amazo was written nicely), and Juniper Lee is a fun show. To each his own I guess

Judd, People first got to know you on the San Francisco edition or The Real World. How have you managed to fuck up every book you've managed to get your incompetent hands on? From Batman to Green Arrow to Green Lantern to The Outsiders, you've managed to put the stink of festering shit upon them. Why?
Thank You, Mirrorball

For shutting up the idiocy of Brewhammer. It's not only Winick, it's the schools and the churches and the neighborhoods...they just keep having gays in them. Damn them all! I must also say that Real World San Francisco was great in its day, but not because of Judd, who continues to be just as dull a person now as he was then. Which is quite dull. But I LOVE Exiles, have never missed an issue, and I think he's done great on the Outsiders as well. He's not hitting 100%, but he's batting like .500 and that's pretty good. Also, I agree with the person who said it isn't like he claims to be Morrisson, it's us who put him in the Big Leagues.

...you know what? If this guy was as bad a hack as you all claim he is, he wouldn't continue to get writing assignments. Easy as that. So fuck off, already.
Based on this interview, I like Winnick

As in, I think he seems like a nice guy. He enjoys a lot of the same music, comics and movies I do, and he'd been probably be a great guy to hang out with for beers some time. Unfortunately, none of that takes away from the fact that he is a really, really, bad writer who is unable to bring even one percent of the likeability I see in this interview to his superhero work.

Hey jackass. I don't have anything against gays. If Winnick had done one book and put a gay in it it wouldn't have been annoying. But the guy simply can't write a mainstream hero comic where he doesn't throw a gay character in. It's become a plot device to him. That being said, you are free to get back to blowing him now.

I don't have anything against women. If Gail Simone had done one book and put a woman in it, it wouldn't have been annoying. But the chick simply can't write a mainstream hero comic where she doesn't throw a female character in. It's become a plot device to her. That being said, you are free to get back to eating her now.
Well way to go Brewhammer...

Could you try to make a point without insulting someone's character? That would be a welcome chane.
