Todd & Borat

No mention of Borat? Or is that subject played out? I did hear a radio interview he did in Detroit last week, and Borat was brought up. I thought it was cool that he showed humility and admitted the "creative differences" were his fault and that the project is better than the direction he wanted to take it in. Still, I like his stuff, I just hope he doesn't lose his edge.
His movies are good in spite of him

Not because of him. Take away great performances from the likes of Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell and you're left with, well, Starsky and Hutch.

you mean box office wise? Or quality wise? I liked old school. Starsky was mildly amusing, but "biggest commedies"? Capone, throttle back on the hyperbole.
Why didn't you ask him about Taxicab Confessions?

According to imdb.com, Todd Phillips was one of the pretend cab drivers during the 1996 season of HBO's Taxicab Confessions. And if that doesn't scream "credibility" for a director, I don't know what does. Scorcese would be jealous. Sure, he directed Taxi Driver, but did he ever pretend to be one? I think not.

I guess DOS is a pretty "old school" operating system.

Old School was great. Hope he can crank out another one like that. I am really not sure what anyone saw in Starsky & Hutch.
I don't understand how he is writing Old School 2...

If they haven't signed on yet. Is he using their characters from the first film? And then if they don't want to be in it, they'l be re-cast? Because obviously no one would want to see that. Or is he just writing three characters, and if they agree to be in it, he'll make them the characters from the first film. But again, if he does that, he wouldn't have their backstories from the first film. Does anyone else know what I mean and agree with me here?

..._hated_! you know, the infamous g.g. allin documentary, one of the ONLY authentically great rock docs, about one of the only authentically DANGEROUS individuals to have, uh, explored the form. it's up there with _cocksucker blues_, _don't look back_, _message to love_...a great work. phillips was also mainly responsible for the new york underground film festival, no longer in existence, but a real deal indie showcase for the NYC in the 90's -- wasn't he also directing some way frickin' nc-17 porn doc? seems like i remember him talking "up" mike horner, how the horndog used to study under marcel marceau prior to studying under hyapatia lee's pubes... that aside, for phillips to have made a smooth transition into retard comedies, and getting the notice he could not have otherwise, speaks volumes about the state of real deal indiedom (that state = non-existence) in this day and age. i don't begrudge the man, you understand, i just remember another time, not so very long ago...
Wow...if he isn't the Taxicab Confessions guy...

he sure as hell looks like him. I remember the possible Todd Philips driver perving out when a couple were making out in the back seat of his taxi. Man I loved that show.

It IS him. And yes, his stellar work in the front seat of that cab rivals his work in Old School. "I'm here for the gangbang".

MS-DOS, not as in the Spanish word for the number 2. For as multicultural/lingual as I am, were I to play word association and be shown a flashcard with "DOS" on it I would immediately think "DOS" as in "DOSS". And I love the Latinas...muy mucho

Bring on the Sequel! It's my fav. comedy of the decade/millenium thus far. Philips perfectly captured that feeling you get around 30 when you just want to be young again and party and get laid.

I wasn't joking and I did read the previous posts. Am I not entitled to share my thoughts also? And it's "CoursinLarry" not "CousinLarry". Y'know, b/c Balky had that accent.

I can tell you that Todd Phillips and his completely inept and lazy production company are one of the worst jokes in Hollywood today. If his company was supposed to represent what a bunch of stoners running a production company would be like, then he has succeeded. And I don't mean stoners in the fun loving let's guy high and laugh our asses off way...I'm talking hard core wake and bakers who forget they have meetings with you. I give Phillips credit for getting where he is -- he has an excellent relationship with talent and that has helped propel him...but his movies are directed just enough to make sense and poorly written -- they are only saved by performances of his stars. Todd Phillips hasn't launched anyone's career -- he has the knack for jumping on actors who already have a fanbase and personality. School of Scoundrels will tank. There appears to be nothing original or fresh in that movie at all. About 4 years too late on the Billy Bob comedy wagon and 3 years too late on the Napoleon Dynamite wagon -- and everyone knows Heder is box office poison. Shame on you Capone for fondling his balls as much you did here. Anyone who loves comedy cannot throw out Starsky and Hutch as a great comedy film. I'm surprised Phillips didn't fall off his chair when you hit him with that one. I think even he knows that movie was a piece of shit. Rumor has it on that classic Starsky and Hutch, what was Phillips most concerned about? The lighting, the acting, the writing, the car chases? How about the catering. He threatened to stop shooting a few times because he didn't like the catering.

I don't think that film was staged, as many have suggested. Phillips is too incompetent to have pulled something like that off (although he did have a co-director). If you can rent it, by all means do so. Watching that film made me intensely gratified for being able to live at my parents' home during my college tenure.
