Nobody gives a damn about your opinion. If you dislike anime, then don't post in an anime TB.
My guess was way off....

The problem with Samurai 7

is that it used one of the greatest movies of all time as the base of it's story, heavily advertised it as such, but only "borrowed" some of the characters and plot points from the movie. If they're going to remake/re-imagine something as significant as "The Seven Samurai" (Kurosawa's best known work and arguably his greatest), they should've followed the original closely or not at all. With the way they marketed the film, people are inevitably going to compare the anime to the original movie and unless the creative team who made S7 were able to execute absolutely everything to perfection, that's not a battle they're going to win. The largest disparity in quality between the two is probably in the areas of story, pacing, and illustration/relations between characters. What makes it worse for S7 is that by only taking only bits and pieces of the original and injecting it into a brand new, larger universe with it's own ideas and objectives, they created something that feels like an pretentious but awkward and amateurish attempt at a remake. Surprisingly though, as an anime it isn't all that bad. There's some good directing, some good animation (though some sloppy parts too), an engaging story, some good characters, good acting etc. They should've just used the basic premise of "warriors help oppressed villagers" and stayed clear of all the other key characters and story lines from the original and they would've made an anime series without any stigma. Re: 009. That has the potential to be an amazing movie. Large number of great diverse characters and a good premise fit for the big screen. Re: Maetel. She looks too pasty and rather creepy. And at 170cm, she’s shorter then I thought she’d be. A life sized Tochiro or Tetsuro might have been easier to make and more fun to interact with.
