Miyazaki went to www.ebay.com and bought my ass. He quite literally, owns my ass, and all asses for that matter

I just gotta say: wow. This update is always so packed. I love it; the dissections of the various works are insightful with the tone always remaining light and accessible. The amount of time that must go into creating this post must be scary. Thanks man, you clear up very muddy waters and it's very much appreciated.

Well it's intriguing anyway, from the first few episodes that I've seen. I rather like the stylized action and character look and feel... Been wanting to check out Castle of Cagliostro, something I hear even Speilberg called "one of the greatest adventure movies of all time.” Re-released huh? Think I'll head to the store sometime and give it a purchase...

Don't let the sparse comments discourage you. This much text is going to take the average AICNer some time to wade through.

rumor has it that he managed to see Cagliostro before doing RAIDERS and it was a big influence. I can believe it. Too bad the DVD still seems to short-change the movie to an extent.

should find their own style and not copy any single artist or style much less manga. It all looks the same and that's a fact and it's just a by the numbers style that leaves little room for growth as an artist. Don't imitate, innovate with your art!

Cagliostro is just insanely brilliant storytelling on every level. And not just as an anime, but as a feature film as well. It's the rare anime that you can recommend to anyone whether they know anything about anime or not. The TV series was also great (though not the Americanized version they aired on CN). It's too bad though that most of the other Lupin movies they made were rather disappointing. And it's kinda weird that the source manga (at least from my perspective) wasn't as good as the TV series. Re: Dororo. I'm usually unimpressed with the Japanese Samurai-fu style movies (eg: Azumi, Princess Blade). They usually have beautiful cinematography but everything eles about the movie is usually sub-par and they tend to focus too much on the (100% gratuitous) action and violence. However, I have some hope for Dororo. It's got a good cast (the same pair who were in the highly rated TV drama "Orange Days") and the source material can't be beat. There's an old live action version of Tezuka's "Hi no Tori" that I remember seeing as a kid which was pretty good so hopefully Dororo won't disappoint.
