That was 'other' folks fawning over Del Toro. Don't mistake me for a hater, I enjoyed his two popcorn flicks but, as is the case with Roth and various others, I can't help but be a little suspect when so much praise is heaped on a film and its director by AICN. I hope the film proves my suspicions wrong.
he shot Jackie Brown?

Everyone I talked to who saw Pan's Labyrinth in Toronto loved it. Which is more than I can say for The Fountain. Man, I haven't seen a crowd reaction like that since Joe Theismann got his leg snapped by Lawrence Taylor.

...Del Toro is awesome. Navarro also shot the sheriff, but NOT the deputy.

Yeah, can't trust anything on AICN regarding certain filmmakers but I have the feeling this will be good. Hurrah.

We bitch and moan about every nuance of a movie constantly, but THIS movie is the reason our standards are so high...so that one day someone somewhere just might get it right.

...after Harry heaped big praise on Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, you know, the best films of the entire Star Wars series, I can understand you're cynicism, but don't be so damn jaded! Del Toro rocks your fucking socks off man!

As excited as I am, I am still WAY sceptical. I'm with ViolentN8, the more ass kissing a film gets from AICN, the more I prepare myself for disappointment.

Guillermo Del Toro is a director at the height of his powers. Some of his films may be stronger in some areas, weaker in others, but he hasn't done a bad one yet (which includes Mimic, btw). The coolest thing for me is that he actually seems to love film, and not all the bs that surrounds the industry. This is cool because I can't see him descending into the hell that is hackdom.

Franco won the Spanish civil war (1936 to 1939)and remained in power until he died in 1975. I'm assuming Del Toro got it right and you're just pretending this movie takes place in an alternate universe.

I too have the pleasure of 36 years talkbacking under my belt... 18 of which seem to be prior to birth. Excellent news. Pan's Labyrinth looks incredible to say the least, looks like a hyped film that will finally deliver on the promise.
