She IS Texas. She had the respect of everyone in this state simply because she felt honest. And she dated Bill Deaxtrive.

I'm right there with you, it's so difficult to find a leader/politician worth their salt. It doesn't matter if you agree with them or not good leaders should be lauded. I too wish to pay my respects to your former Govenor. May her family and love ones remember her fondly, rest in peace Madame Govenor.

You mean that in Texas that the way you get to be govenor is going up to the current govenor and booting them out? The other 49 states use this system called voting. Try it! Ok, politics aside, I do remember Govenor Richards, and the US has lost a great leader.

SHOCKED that someone like her would die of esophagal cancer. "Poor George Bush" may have been born with a silver foot in his mouth, but I always thought someone needed to press an iron to her face!......Reminds me so much of my last landlord, another vulgar woman.

While I wonder while this little weep about Ma Richards has to do with film or TV, I too will miss the--er--sweet old lady. She was a horrible governor who managed to alienate her own party with her high handed style even more so than the opposition. But she was entertaining, in the manner of old fashion Texas pols. Farwell ma Richards. We'll never see your like again, which is a good thing for good government, though sad for those who like tart tongued wit.

she could have been the next Mrs. William Fontaine DeLaTour Dautrieve. She was a class act an a genuine credit to all people from Texas. It's a pity that she had to see Ohio State dominate Texas last weekend. I, however, just loved it. G'dnight, Govenor.

I take it you haven't noticed that just about every policy that Bush championed while in the Governor's office has been a complete and utter failure. Especially the so-called "Texas Miracle" in the education system. But go ahead believing that Bush can do no wrong and that all who oppose him are the spawn of the devil, if it makes you feel better.

You continue to be one of the most ignorant people on this site. The reason "Dubya" narrowly won that election wasn't because of Texas voters. It was because of KARL ROVE. Yes the pig-faced, racist, draft-dodging, garbage-rooting, Watergate-scandaling, push polling, McCain slurring, Florida election stealing, treason committing (Plame), Bush string-pulling dirty trickster was the one who got Bush in office as governor. So don't give me that "voters decided" bullshit. Wake up and smell the coffee.

I loved Ann Richards as she represented the best traits of Texas. Regarding the Bush "booted her out" bit, no one thought Bush would be elected, really. Voter turnout for the gubernatorial race that year was almost nil. Bush won by getting Every Single Last Republican In The State to vote for him (around 2.25 million - if I remember correctly - in a state of almost 23 million people). I'm afraid the Achilles heel of many Democratic elections - low Democrat turn-out (I think Ann got 1.4 or 1.5 million) - actually knocked Ann out of office as the state was, until recently, a Democratic stronghold (until the eighties - basically, when Phil Gramm switched parties). I was shocked as hell to see Ann go as she was incredibly popular in the state. Anyone else in Austin at the time remember that naked streaker who ran through the capital the next day with "We'll Miss You, Ann!!!" painted all over him? Thus began the "bad ol' days" of Texas politics (though a Democrat, Bob Bullock, still ran the state as lieutenant governor - the person that ACTUALLY has the most power in Texas according to the state constitution, which was written/designed to weaken Federally-appointed state governors following the Civil War). Sorry to rant, but I volunteered on that campaign and for years had an "Ann Richards: Governor" placard up in my apartment.
I had to put my 2 cents in!

1st post... hellllloooooo! have been visiting the site for years. I get many laughs at comments and people ragging on each other. The woman died and people still slam her. I did not agree with her politics, but do we ever agree 100% with any politician. Same thing when Reagan died, people slammed him hard, and he wasnt even in the gorund yet. I get just as hyped up as the next person when it comes to politics, but if I disagree with someone, I don’t wish them death. Most people want the best for this country. We just have different views on how we do it. So please, have a little respect for yourself. RIP AR

when someone dies. Whatever you say about his politics and questionable views, at least give Anchorite credit for being civil and gracious. Maybe I'm naive, but Ann Richards seemed like an amazingly cool person, just the kind of person I would want looking out for the people. What politicians should be but rarely are.

Anchorite. You would "LOVE" to know how rove was involved with Watergate? I snese a sceptical tone as if I'm making it up so I'll tell you, even though it's common knowledfge to anyone with half a brain. Rove dropped out of college to ironically become executive director of the College Republican National committee where he was active in the campaign of Richard Nixon and taught young fledgling Republicans to root through their opponents' trash to dig up dirt on them. Rove was investigated by the FBI after the Watergate break in. Hell he was probably one of the fuckers who broke in. His mentor, Donald Segretti, was CONVICTED in the Watergate scandal and the only reason they didn't convict Rove was because they probably had bigger fish to fry.

What Got Her Voted Out Of Office

Wasn't low voter turnout - it was her veto of the first attempt of the Conceal & Carry handgun law, which was wildly popular everywhere in Texas *except* to the leftists in Austin. My fondest memories of her were Bush 41 beating the Hell out of Dukakis ("silver foot" indeed) and Duby sending her packing out of the governor's mansion.

She was nothing but a holdover from the bad old LBJ days of corruption and anti-Semitism. Violently anti-Israel. She hires a speechwriter to give her one joke line and suddenly she's relevant? No.
