...but this actually sounds like an interesting spin. And Alan Alda's best portrayal of a zombie was his bit on West Wing.

The Zombie Survival Guide is awesome. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy – it’s wonderful. I can’t wait to check out WWZ. I’d love to see the Self Defense Lecture. When the dead rise you just can’t be too prepared.

you can tell how bad these talkbacks have gotten since they made it easier for Joe Shmoe the ragman to sign up and start flamming. Fuck this, I'm out.

Does he have fast or slow zombies? Because slow ones really aren't that much of a threat are they? Whack the fucker on the head with a spade and job done.
Here's hoping for a book signing

I loved The Zombie Survival Guide. It was actually kind of scarry how stright he wrote it. Oh, and I'm sure John Milius already has an army and a fortified position.

And had a flick through it in the pub - I like the look of it and the structure so very much looking forward to reading this puppy starting tonight. On the subject of Zombie literature I would heartily recommend avoiding the shit out of a book called 'The Rising' by Brian Keene. It is an appaling litany of sheer and utter bollocks! The zombies aren't slow but they drive motorbikes and crack one liners. All the zombies crack one liners - even the zombie pigeons and zombie lions and zombie fucking goldfish! It is a giant pile of crap that follows the tried and tested formulae of zombie apocalypse and has one good idea about the plague being caused by an interdimensional portal or something but seriously - zombie fucking squirrels! (Disclamer I can't remember if there are actually zombie squirrels in the book but there is everything else)

...after I received an advance "review" copy from Brooks (to review on my own site, which I'll not shill here). I don't think I'm overstating things here when I say that this book is perhaps the best book...fiction, non-ficiton, or otherwise and regardless of genre...that I've read in many years. What Brooks has to say about human nature as a "constant" (that is, regardless of geographical, ideological, political, economic, or religious boundaries) is quite stunning, actually. If I thought for a split second that such a thing were possible, I'd say that this book has all the makings of a Pulitzer Prize winner. And yes, I'm serious. It's that good. I'm going to interview Brooks, too...and I'm going to really get to the bottom of why his book is so successful. Cheers everyone!

I didn't know there was an audio book, now I have to part with even more money. I loved the Zombie Survival Guide, it's cool that the son of Mel Brooks is as twisted as I am. I thought The Rising was really good, it's a different take on zombies, but pretty cool. They aren't zombies in the traditional sense, demons from another dimension are possessing the recently dead, humans and animals. People and the media don't get that they aren't like the mindless zombies from the movies, so that leads to them underestimating the undead. If your old school only, then maybe you won't like it, but if you don't mind new takes on zombies, you will probably like it.
zombie or not zombie

That is the question, and until last year i never like zombies. OOOH the dead are rising, big friggin whup how can anyone be interested in a story that revloves around whacking dead things in the head for a couple hundred pages? Of course that was until I was urged by my local comic purveyor to read The Walking Dead graphic novel on a money back guarantee. And, Dammit if i have not just finished the third trade. The best zombie tales aren't about zombies at all, they are about peoples reaction to a truly cataclysmic beyond fucked up event and how you deal with it and the other people around you at the time. Everyday borders are broken down in seconds. Things like racism, sexism, class, etc. all become moot when you have three hundrerd rotting corpses surrounding you and your only salvation lies in the gay black jew next to you with a shotgun!

I just ordered this from Amazon and cant wait for it to get here! I had bought the Survival Guide for a family member but of course we never give out virgin books for Christmas so I had read it cover to cover in one sitting. Other good reads for Zombie fiction are the Autumn novels by David Moody. They are a bit rough around the edges but really convey that sense of "The world is over and we are a dieing breed" dread that just makes for a really good zombie apocolypse story. As for Keene, his stuff is a bit off the wall but at least a try at a new spin on an old market. You gotta love how he gives you complete character developement only to hack said character into peices in the next paragraph!

I noticed a couple of people wondering about booksignings with Max Brooks. I wanted to let you know that he will be at Borders Columbus Circle (in the Time Warner Building) on Tuesday, October 10 at 7pm. He will read from, discuss and sign copies of World War Z. We hope to see you there.
