I've been a G1 fan my whole life, and I'm still excited by this. If we're going to put a realistic spin on things, then I understand why they avoided "mass-shifting". In my opinion, Megatron transforming into a tiny little gun would just be plain silly looking. On Soundwave: The writers said that Frenzy started off as Soundwave, but it just made less and less sense and they felt it was become to different from the original character. Which means we might see Soundwave in the movie. I don't have a problem with the others. BRAWL is a TANK, as he used to be. Scorponok will kick huge amounts of ass. Barricade looks cool. Blackout sounds interesting. The only one I'm not too sure about is Bonecrusher. Whiney ass bitches will always find something to bitch about. Even if the movie was a direct translation of the cartoon, they'll find something.

Sat with the design team. Looked through all Transformers catalogs and talked extensively with the design team about what is important. Trying to overcome the perception of a "toy commercial". Tried to use the history to their advantage. They talk about monitoring the boards to see reaction. Who would win in a street fight Optimus or Megatron? You will find out. Why no Shockwave? Too many characters, tried to choose important characters who could focus o nthe story. Door open for possible future appearance. Laser blasts or bullets and missles? In earth modes, they have earth style weapons. But Cybertronian technology (pulse blasts) come into play while in robot form. Bumblee as a Camaro asked again. Explained again at greater length. Good God, man. Settle down. I understand this flick is important to you but... look, Soundwave is awesome. He kicks ass. But if he's not in it, the movie is not ruined. The pilot of the G1 series introduced something like 14 autobots and 8 decepticons off the bat, and built rapidly from there until you had a cast of literally hundreds. Armada really suffered IMO from focussing on the humans and starting with only 3 Autobots and 4 Decepticons. On the rare occasions when a new character was introduced it was a laboriously big deal. So far everything I've heard about this film reminds me more of Armada than G1, and Armada was excruciating viewing..

And he should be a handheld gun for Starscream. The reason Starscream is kept around for example to shoot him at stuff. For the flames thing, they should have brought in Hot Rod. The best the old movie had to offer besides Unicron. They should keep the shrinking tech for changing sizes. Just because we can't do it does not mean aliens can't. They should have brought in a combo transformer like Devastator instead of the blackout gimmic. Keep it simple stupid. Autobots make Dinobots to counter in the movie. In fact, my confidence in this movie bolstered a bit more after hearing from them. They did come across as fans and I like the choices in characters they made. (Though Spike's story, if the rumors are true, sounds dodgy.) The art direction is still more what I'm concerned about. That is what's keeping me from being fully gung-ho behind this film.

Just a thought, We Know BB switches his Alt mode during the movie, and since the overall consensus is that the Flaming Optimus is Gay (no pun intended). Gotta agree with you on the creepy look of the robots. Like I say, I'm not sold on the art direction of the film yet. You know what would help is to see and hear someone in action, say, Bumblebee. If they could attach the characterization to the design and the flow together, that would ease my concerns. So far, the creepy, skeletal look is very disassociated and disconnected from the characters we know and love.

I don't get how people are slamming the movie BEFORE it's been released. The smart money is on this movie being awesome. Whether or not you're a Michael Bay fan, you have to admit that his movies LOOK incredible. And the guys writing this actually seem like real fans, so at least the movie isn't going to be written by hacks who aren't even into Transformers. I understand why everyone here is so protective of the movie--I'm in the same boat--but we should be happy that there IS a Transformers movie. here I think. If I had to guess they will probably move like motion capture just like the teaser. The robot designs are unpleasant to look at, and rather generic (!!!), whereas the animated are definitely more iconic. This kind of unimaginative design ticks me off to no end. There have to be some modifications in the translations, understood, but I liked the boxier designs and colors as it gave the appearance of mass and conveyed personalities.

Hopefully and sure there will be some that we would all want to see but quit bitchin' about it! Soundwave was cool but if were in the movie, everybody would still cry about him being changed into a helicopter or submarine or whatever so it's a no win situation. Look at it this way: Would you rather have no movie at all or a movie that may not be everything you want but will still kick ass. I have never been more excited about a movie other than the first Spiderman. I loved G1 and the 1986 movie is a favorite of mine...truthfully if they just made that live action I'd be set. But I am glad that we are at least getting something! I love soundwave, but its a planned trilogy with many more characters. I would rather have some no name Decepticreeps die in this movie and not return than have them say kill off some bigger names in the first movie of a planned trilogy.

Has anyone got the MI3 script or ALIAS by Orci and Kurtzman?(wink wink i'm talking to you hotchick). I've saw mi3 17 times in the theater and like you i was a diehard Alias fan so you might say i have a good feeling that the writers will do a good job with transformers. As for Bay, he'll make this movie look amazing -- one big glorious robot/car/helicopter/tank/hotc hick fest with robots and boobs shot for maximum effect, and i for one am FUCKING PSYCHED. And for all you know it alls, I have a friend who snuck onto set (and then proceeded to get fired from his delivery job) and said the ACTUAL robots look FUCKING AMAZING and the pictures don't do them justice. I just wish this movie were opening NOW not in 07 so I didn't have to wait a year. But then, if it were released.... and you liked it... what would you haters talk about?

The original movie caused massive controversy cause they killed all the good characters. If you change too much then you'll end up with a gobots movie or some even fucking power rangers. I never really minded the flames were added but i just saw the pics and there are alot of flames on that truck and it just looks REALLY stupid.
