But I found Dawn of the dead laughably bad at points (zombie baby) and i've no faith in this director. Most of the reviews seem to be telling me that gore and tits means a good time but that's how I viewed Hostel and that was shite. Most of these glowing reviews have told me very little beyond "there is visceral violence, pretty visuals and some occasional nudity". I need more reasoned criticsm!

Read the first review here and then read the first review of the two posted earlier. They seem alarmingly similar. I hate to cry plant, this film might rock my socks off, but these reviews are suspicous.

Sorry, but when 2 different reviews say something like "it sucks that I have to wait another 7 months to see it!", I picture marketing flaks earning their stripes. Nice try, kids!

Honestly Im getting so sick of hearing how awesome it is when a bloddy film comes out as if its the first time it happens. I guess everyone forgot about The Descent, Hostel, The Deils Rejects and more and more. But hey who needs story or characters WE HAVE GORE AND BOOBIES!!

I didnt hear any person talk shit about as I walked out of the theater. So despite whatever you guys think, those guys have the same opinion as me.

It's often the extreme hyperbole, quote: " I want to scream right now because the thought of having to wait seven months at the very least to see the film again is going to be absolute torture." And, "At times I could have sworn I was looking at paintings by Da Vinci." Also, most marketing plant guys know the complete oeuvre of actors, like Gerald Butler---most regular Joe Schmoe movie goers have no idea who the guy is outside of 'Phantom'. Yeah, and 'showcase' too.

Standard marketing department boilerplate. Give us a review that doesn't trot out "Gerard Bultler (Phantom of The Opera) gives a breakout performance" and the like and I'll be more convinced.

The themes and even the coloring remind me of some of the cutscenes in PS2 game "God of War." I wonder if any of the artistic techniques were cribbed from one to the other. On a side note, if they made a "God of War" movie I'd see it in a heartbeat, as long as it had the same characteristics as the game: impossible weapons, mythological gods as characters, horrific creatures, and elaborate kills. I would look for brilliant story and dialogue elsewhere, just to see Kratos go nuts on the big screen.

Listen guys for fucks sake. Is it so hard to believe that people actually really liked this film ? Have you lost soo much faith in the medium that you automatically beleive that any positive comments MUST be torn down and denied without reason or logic. Try and accept that this film is good, you do not have to rip it to pieces, no one is listening to you because almost everyone understands this film WILL be good. If you can't accept this or simply won't, just fuck off.

trying to sell this movie to middle America will be an uphill battle. The only route for WB is to try to compare this to Gladiator. Like Gladiator, but with much more male half-nakedness.... Nope, I was right. It's an uphill battle.

So watching warriors fight with out large unneccessaryily bulky armor is gay. Does that mean Shaka Zulu is gay? Wait a minute....is Hulk Hogan gay then too? Holy fuck Brock Sampson killed a couple guys in the buff last week, now he is gay too, FUCK. Does this make Arnold gay in T2 when he goes nuts on the bikers, I had no idea robots could be gay. I never really knew non completly clothed dudes=gay. Alright then because I liked Die hard, Rambo, T1 & T2, and Commando then Im gay. Where do I start sucking. Wait a minute, Im not gay? I just like sweet movies! Please homophobes shut the fuck up. You literally have no idea what you are talking about.

And lots of other females will like this, too. Not just for the hot actors in mini-costumes, but for the power of the story. Miller's version of Thermopylae gives us doomed heroism -- always a favorite topic. Sacrifice and battlefield comeraderie always gets me. So my friends and I will be there when the line forms. Oh, and I am very middle American.

Yes, we're all looking forward to this movie (yes, we're all gay) but there is really nothing genuine or authentic about any of the reviews sent in for 300. Could it be that AICN is a shill for studios and/or people it wants to be in business with? hmm

The sad part is this is one of history's greatest stories. Now with this version and the crappy 1970s british version, a serious production, perphaps based on Steven Pressfield's gates of fire, will never get made.

Did you actually ask if wrestling was gay?! Um, yeah. Its gay. EXTREMELY Gay. I don't mean gay as in silly or negative, I mean gay as in homosexual. And I'm not homophobic, I'm just telling it like it is. (On the Brock Samson tip, wasn't his first naked murder spree greeted with the sighs of pleasure from his targets? Like in the first episode? Brock is hyper-hetero, but he's been in several butchgay scenarious; its intentional; supposed to be funny.) The funniest thing is how bent out of shape and defensive yr'all getting! Cmon; its OK to be gay! It doesn't mean yr any less than a man, it just means you like to touch and squeeze them. The Spartans were totally bad ass, and they were all homosexuals (or at least bisexual -- men slept with men as much as women). Why does this freak y'allout so much? Denial? Now whos the homophobe? C'mon let yr rainbow flag fly! Everyones at least a little bit gay. Especially sports fans.

the 13th Warrior, then that's fine. Had a vacation day off from work today and just re-watched 13th Warrior on Encore. Very good adventure-battle movie and highly underrated. Has a pretty good orchestral score as well. One of John Mctiernan's better efforts, though I've read that Mctiernan dropped out of it halfway through and novelist/producer Michael Chricton directed the remaining portion.

..because most of the so-called plants aren't attending this kind of screening, nor are they writing for Ain't it cool. I worked on this movie and even I won't get to see it till March, and nor won't most of the cast and crew. The type of screening that needs "plants" are the shitty ones that already have bad word of mouth and need some positive reviews - and those usually end up in the mainstream press, not here. So far I've heard nothing but good things about 300, some of them from the harshest film-hating geeks I've met. Do you guys think that the producers of 300 are afraid it's going to fail, so they ask some dork to write a positive review on Aint it cool to make it look good? Have you ever worked with producers on this kind of film? They're very optimistic. They don't shit their pants enough to get some nerd to "help" them sell a film - that's what they have marketing budgets for. Let me put it this way - you buy a rose (a plant) to hide a bad smell. This film was surrounded with a good vibe from day one. It will do well no matter what anyone says.

Most of these reviews are coming out of SoCal for which many of these people see these screeenings because they're in the business. So they could be plants from the marketing department OR they could be from LA where EVERYBODY talks like they're in Marketing.

Wow. Didn't realize that gays had a monopoly on certain genres. From the talkback chorus, it seems all of us who enjoyed Gladiator or, as kids, Roman war movies or Steve Reeves, or Jason/Argonauts are all gay. Who knew? Dammit...we are being indoctrinated and we don't even know it. Curse you Lance Bass!!
Sparta like many greek states practiced pederasty...

While Spartan's are often said to have favored chastity in such relationships, they were still highly eroticized. Homosexual relations were quite common throughout Greek society. Though from my admittedly limited reading on the subject of Sparta, the use of homosexual relations as a moral booster (eg the Sacred Band of Thebes) was frowned upon. So I don't see how anyone can deny the homoerotic component inherent in Spartan history.
