I don't know where the inspiration is coming from for this, but lose the flames. Optimus Prime was always the wise leader, and the fact that he is the giant semi puts that aspect of his character on display. If you want to put flames on a character, put them on Jazz or Sideswipe, but flames on Optimus isn't needed. All it does is show off Bay's true colors as a director that would rather go for the "cool" look than the proper look, and why we will never take him seriously as a true filmmaker.

It's hard to tell if those are legit renderings or not. However, there are a lot of interesting things to be found on those TF messageboards. A couple of fans have done some concept art of Bumblebee (based on the leaked robot photo) and Brawl (based on the Comic Con animatics). The word is that they may be VERY close to the actual versions that will be seen in the movie. -- Gil Brooks: where did you see the "whole thing"???

Well, even if it is a fake, at least it has the damn faceguard. My main problem with some of the Transformers that I've seen (Ratchet and Optimus) for example are that they completely go against what a Transformer is supposed to be. Let's see, Optimus a huge red and blue semi truck with redneck flames. Ratchet looks like a big yellow hummer (supposed to be an ambulance). Transformers by their very nature try to BLEND IN. How the fuck does a big semi with flames and a yellow hummer that says "Ambulance" even come close to blending in? :\|

Sorry, fortheloveofgord, I work at a magazine research company and I've seen these images a few days ago in a toy trade magazine as part of an ad campaign for the marketing blitz transformers have been having across the board, from toys, to the film, to the classic movie. some asshat decided to take them and put a black bar across for "authenticity's" sake, and posted them like mad, claiming they're the real deal. So yes, they're the real deal, in that they aren't fanmade, but they're not the real deal in that they're not specific to the film. Case closed. You can't tell me otherwise because I know better.

...million e-mails forwarding the link to Harry (and Quint) and all I can say is that I got it from a guy who's usually about a thousand percent dead-on in his information regarding the toys. He's been pretty mum on the whole movie thing, which leads me to believe he wouldn't have sent it to me if he didn't think it was legit. Take that for whatever it's worth. I dig the design. Seems like a nice compromise. But I know a lot of those hardcore G1ers aren't so down with that concept. We'll just have to see if it turns out to be the real thing and then try to imagine Peter Cullen's voice coming out of it. Personally, that idea has me pretty stoked.

I don't think so, McGsStepson. Everything on Bay's Blog and the TF messageboards indicate that this is a genuine image. And it may be that it is an image of Prime in mid-transformation as there is much talk as to how the armor plating will become more seemless. Check it out.

I haven't had the time to read Bay's blog, but if it is real what a stupid idea. Maybe I just don't like the looks of the whole thing. Could you imagine Spielberg doing something like this (the fucking black bar over the face) for JURASSIC PARK? And sadly, he's a producer. And anyway, I still say it looks like a model or a miniature or a toy (literally, I know it is a toy commercial anyway).

It's not been officially stated that the images are indicitive of the finalized movie version Optimus Prime - that is open to debate. But as for the authenticity of the images, they've essentially been confirmed = they may be from a concept maquette, a video game rendering...no one is exactly sure at this point. -- As for the black bar, these photos were not leaked by Bay and the Production company (as far as anyone knows). There were posted on the TF boards and were cited as being found witin insider trade publications in preparation for the upcoming media blitz.

If it was not Bay or the studio who leaked the pic.'s and they are authentic, then why are they still up? And if it was them, then the black bar seems a little, or a lot, silly. Was it a publicist, a stunt? I guess that's my question, or the contradiction that I am trying to solve, now.

"Leak". LOL This is no leak. A leak implies that the images were displayed without consent. Were that the case, there would be no bar over the optic sensors. This is a publicity stunt designed to look like a leak to those people Bay considers weak-minded enough to enjoy his little film. Leak? Yeah... he's showering us alright.

If you look closely, it would seem these aren't CGI. They look to me to be more like highly detailed concept art. If it's a 3D model, it's certainly not the final version. This is something for animators to look at while working on Flamebot Prime.

Now maybe I am a bit too old, I was born in 70, so while I remember transformers....I guess I was too old to appreciate it, if I had seen it at 5 rather than at 10 maybe I would give 2 shits about flames on an arm. I have a soft spot for Robotech, starblazers, even voltron....cuz like I said I am a geek, but transformers the movie really blows my mind...like some bizarre SNL skit. and no I have not seen superman returns
