Wrong leg...
by droog
Aug 4th, 2006
02:49:45 PM
It's actually McGowan's right leg in the movie that gets the gun upgrade, not the left as depicted in the poster. However, that image "flows" better, so I can't really argue with the change for aesthetic reasons. Of course, it could likely also have been intentional on RR and QT's part to further emulate those old posters that rarely were indicative of the actual film.

by Acappellaman
Aug 4th, 2006

How useful would that be? You'd have to sit down to shoot the gun, and the barrel would get clogged with dirt & rocks as you walk around, which could cause a jam. What were those surgeons thinking? Now, have a Samurai sword attached to your leg would be pretty friggin sweet. A nice roundhouse kick could easily decapitate somebody. Just be careful when crossing your legs. Soccer would be a bitch too.

Each movie will be probably an hour and a half, and the current plan is to release them together, with fake trailers in between and an intermission a la an old fashioned double-feature. Hopefully this is what we'll get, because otherwise about half the point of this whole project is lost.

I don't like the idea of a double-feature. I was excited for the original idea of two shorter flicks, each approximately 45 minutes long, or whatever they had said. THAT sounded cool. Two feature length films is a bit much to sit through. I'm all for the campy schlock-fests, but more than three hours of it? Ehhhh. I don't know. I don't even like Robert Rodriguez all that much. Are they going to bring back the intermission? I don't know....I like this idea, but I'm just not sold on it. The casting of Kurt Russel though, THAT'S fucking dope.

Your posting on a page, of a website, TOTALLY devoted to film geeks, to an article about 2 HUGE film geek, filmmakers, and you don't have a fucking clue what the whole Grinhouse double feature is?!?!?! WTFF?!?!?! Yes, it's 2 seperate feature length films, one is Rodriguez's, the other, Tarantino's...RR is doing a "zombie" flick, a throwback to the 70's exploitation era, very Carpenter-esque...QT (NOT Quicktime, peckerwoods!!!) is doing a slasher flick with a car, he's referencing some of the cooler car/chase drive-in exploitation flicks like Dirty Mary Crazy Larry and Vanishing Point, as well as 70's/80's slasher films...this IS QT's next film, not just a fun side project. Both films will be presented under the "Grindhouse" moniker, sold as a double-bill. Fake trailers for other exploitation genre films will be sandwitched between these, to complete the experience. If you don't want to sit there for that long, leave! Your paying for one movie and getting two, decide which you want, and see it, nobody's making you stay! Now pay the fuck attention from now on!!!

Made to look like a low budget 70's film? Why do Rodriguez & Tarantino films always have to be gory. Can't them make a cool stylish film with yes violence, but why is it always over the top gore? To the point of disturbing. It's not fun anymore when they go there.

Gene Simmons Should Have Been Cast As Mad Man Mike!!!
by MetalWater
Aug 4th, 2006
04:54:08 PM
Yes...Gene Simmons, the infamous long tongued fire spitting bassist from the rock group KISS!!! If you've ever seen Gene Simmons act before (see Run Away, etc.), you already know that he has tremendous charisma on film...and is a damn good and scary actor!!! When you see him, you just know he means business and somebody is going to get hurt...bad!!! Tarantino doesn't have the vision anymore to make creative outside the box casting choices like this!!! Instead, he goes for the lazy choice...Kurt Russell..."Oh, I'm scared of Goldie's pretty boy himbo!" Yeah, right!!!...Barbara Striesand's old hair dresser ex-boyfriend, Jon Peters, is scarier than Kurt "gigolo" Russell...I mean...at least he's a fake movie producer for a living!!! Bring on Gene Simmons, a real man who's tongue intimidates all women, world wide. Now, can you see him in a scene as Mad Man Mike, taunting his victims with his lengthy rolling tongue??? That's what I call a real Grind House movie!!! Tarantino and Rodriguez are just ballet dancing punks playing with water colors...they don't have the guts to really7 stick it to the audience and the critics!!! Sell-outs!!!

Hell yes! Over three hours of horror exploitation insanity from the minds of Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino (as well as Eli Roth & Edgar Wright, who are each doing a fake trailer for the film)!!! All for the price of a single admission!!! Not to mention the fact that John Carpenter might be helping out with the score!!!

In the story for the Grindhouse comic-con panel on this site it said that QT's script was 130 pages and RR's was 110 pages. Those are two feature length movies, add the trailers and the probably needed intermission and you could show this movie once a night. For just $10.00 a ticket, would a theatre really want to be able just to show one, maybe two showings a night. Also I can't see a studio spending a lot of money on releasing and producing this only to make half the money they could make if they released two movies. Probably going to be split in two before it's all said and done I would presume.

This is where we pray that QT and Rodriguez throw their weight around a little. Because honestly, splitting this thing into 2 movies would simply ruin half the point, which was emulating old drive-in and matinee double features. Besides, if there's only one showing a night, it means the audience will be that much bigger, and something like this demands a big audience.

by MetalWater

He was Snake "Fuckin'" Plissken until he became Goldie Hawn's pool boy!!! The man is just plain pussy whipped!!! However, Gene Simmons doesn't bend over for any woman...You just know he's not taking it from behind with a strap-on!!! No...his tongue keeps 'em in line!!! Hell, he'll tell his woman Shannon Tweed who's in charge to her face!!! The man even says he can, and does cheat on her, on a regular basis. This while she is sitting next to him during interviews!!!...And you know what she says??? "Okay, Gene...whatever you want!" Now that's the real Mad Man Mike for you...and that's real tongue and dick control!!!...Gene keeps his women tongue and dick whipped!!! Where as, Kurt Russell is just somebody's house bitch!!!
Will they be shown as 2 films with intermission?
by fiester

They (the studios and theater lobby) made QT split Kill Bill in two--so why are they suddenly allowing these two flicks with intermission to be shown for the price of a single ticket? I'll believe it when I see it.

Guys, guys. The gun leg is supposed to be goofy. These films are loveletters to the cheesy 70's exploitation flicks. It's not supposed to be realistic. Geez, you guys really don't know how to just let go and have fun anymore do you? I was at Comic-Con and saw the sneak-peek and it was outstanding! In an over the top cheesy way. The crowd's reaction was a deafening roar. Glad none of you were around to piss and moan back in the day when it was cool for Bruce Campbell to attach a chainsaw to his hand and fight the evil dead. Can't have fun like that any more, can we?

Quentin has said that these films are supposed to deliver the coolness only promised by old posters. I think his poster totally rocks, for the record. But the gun leg shit? That's just foolishness. I could be proven wrong, but, as has been said, it seems like a ridiculous place for a gun. See, a chainsaw for a hand makes sense. A guitar case full of guns makes sense. A gun leg, though? Absurd.

I understand what a double-feature is. I understand they are two full-length feature films. I love sitting down and watching multiple hours of movies, no matter what the genre. I just don't like MOVIE THEATER AUDIENCES. Seeing Sin City opening night was fucking unbearable. Film school dropouts and Blockbuster employees shouting 'OOOHHHHHHHH!!!!' at even the slightest bit of violence. Grindhouse is going to be the same. Huge gaggles of douchebag coffee shop movie fags that will tell you that they are 'glad that SOMEONE is paying homage to the golden age of grindhouse blah blah blah'. Annoying emo fucks that jock anything Tarantino has anything to do with. Studying fonts in credits and shit. So go fuck yourself, I understand just fine what they are trying to accomplish here, and I wish them all the best. I even think those posters are dope and I love the cast so far, but it's going to be snide little girls like yourself thats going to kill this movie for me, at least for opening weeked. You want the 'grindhouse' experience? Get a cheap bottle of whiskey and see this in the theater a month after it comes out, at like noon. At the shittiest theater in your city. Or, you can go opening night with your soy latte and claim to have been a huge fan of 'grindhouse' movies since, like, forever. And you'll even use the term 'grindhouse', cause you are gay like that. He's totally cool and along with a huge sword that has magic runes carved into it, he's missing a leg which has been raplaced with a maxhine gun. Hmmm, I wonder if this was one of QT's ideas that filtered into Robert's script as we all know how he can't resist stealing shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!(Yup, I reckons that's enough exclamation marks). Or maybe his bad habbits are behinning to rub off on Robert.

Yeah, this is going to a be a grindhouse movie just like Kill Bill was a "gritty, stark revenge flick like 'They Call Her One Eye' or 'I Spit On Your Grave'" - those were Tarantino's words in 1999 or 2000. Kill Bill was a boring, glossy, over-blown, self-indulgent piece of garbage. Nothing like a 1970's "revenge flick." Grindhouse will surely be another over-blown and over-hyped piece of garabage. Both ideas are plain dumb. A girl with a gun for a leg? Please!!!
