Point Blank does show a kick ass Marvin, but the rest of the film is a bit lacking. I've read the pulp novel by Westlake and Marvin's role is almost like the protagonist in the book, but I still don't find the movie all that entertaining compared to the modern update Payback.

this movie was made for $7,000...that's not even low budget, that's ridiculous...even so, it goes to show you that the most important component to any movie is the script. this one was not bad, but imagine if had been a real doozy, and they made a truly great movie for so little. hollywood loves a story like that...hm, I just remembered I'm graduating film school in a few months...thank the lord for the new JVC HD cameras under $8,000!!

here he is back for more attention...I thought you gave up on your youtube stuff, Corky. why are we seeing this shameless self-promotion again? I told you: after middle school, you can try your hand at humor and videos. as it stands now, the only humor you provide for anyone here is when you set yourself up for merciless taunting at the hands of other talkbackers.

According to Lying in the Gutters column over at Comicbookresources.com, the company that printed "Lost Girls" got a package from the Hospital that has the "perpetual" rights to Peter Pan. I saw stacks of them at San Deigo Comic Con... and was VERy tempted to buy one...but the subject matter was suspect.

There were three One videos. The color one was Joanou. The b&w one was Corbjin. The third one was the "buffalo" version... not sure who directed that one.

Thanks for that. Although I did just figure out the clip I was thinking of was for In The Name Of Love. Or one of the other popular ones. Okay, the clip I saw was black and white, featured a man of non-extended stature (I don't know what the PC term is any more), and was set in an old-timey circus. Basically, I don't think I've seen any of those One clips, but they sound interesting.

Latauro, the B&W video with the traveling circus is "All I Want Is You." Also interesting is that the famous "In the Name of Love" video that was in constant rotation on Mtv in the 1980s was directed by Donald "Performance" Cammell. Moriarty, I've been meaning to pick up that DVD for awhile now. I think you've just convinced me. I love the videos for "The Fly" and Wim Wenders' "Stay." Also if you want to see the original version of the video for "Numb" check out Elvis Costello's "I Wanna Be Loved" released about 8 or 9 years before Kevin Godley did "Numb" Best Wishes,

someone help me out here. I've had the U2 video collection reviewed here at home for some time. So is this just a late review by Moriarty or is there a new Blu-Ray or HD release of the earlier version?
Yeah and I also love that NEW U2 movie Rattle and Hum.

Never said it was new. Do you only watch new DVDs? My hope is that eventually, I'll review everything in my collection. It'll never ever ever happen, but when I'm watching stuff, I mix it up with brand new discs that aren't even out yet, old favorites, stuff I never got around to... whatever. And that's what I've always tried to review, as well. I guess I should always restate that policy before a group of reviews... I just got used to being able to do that on the DVD blog without it seeming like a big deal. It seems like if you put it on the front page of AICN, people think it either has to be new or it's the end of the world.

Miles-" Welcome to rockstar heaven kurt, I'm miles davis and i'll be showing you around" they walk in the gates Cobain-" wow! there's john lennon playing chess with mozart! hey, there's George Harrison on the piano playing with Elliot Smith! Man, rockstar heaven is awesome" cobain then see's BONO, Cobain-" Bono?!?! i didnt know he was dead." Miles-" oh, thats not Bono, that's GOD, he just thinks he's BONO"
POINT BLANK is based on Richard Stark's PAYBACK?

I've read a bunch of Westlake/Stark's books in that series and I absolutely despised Gibson's PAYBACK adaptation. The scene where Gibson beats the crap out of David Paymer really has a different flavor given recent news about the actor...
Ok, answered my own question

Westlake (Stark's) "The Hunter" was the basis for the movie. Cool. I'll check it out.

Man, everybody always talks about boning Natalie Portman and Angelina Jolie on Message Boards. But for my money--and I would have paid dearly--old broads like Jane Russell just kill all of the actresses of today. Russell would be one of my absolute, ideal fantasy lays. My God that woman was hot! Ooh and Rita Hayworth. In the words of Red, "I love it when she does that shit with her hair."

Do you remember when Gibson slaps the gun out of Paymer's hand and proceeds to smash his face into the partition in the cab repeatedly? That scene.

Not to be picky, but isn't the guy's name John Vernon, not Richard. And I'll tell you what's better than Payback, Full Throttle with Chow Yun Fat. That movie is fucking awesome and based on the same story. Not as good as Point Blank, but its not trying to be either. Just a great shoot'em up.
Jeez, Moriarty, why so defensive?

All I asked was if the U2 disc was a new Blu-Ray/HD version. 'Cause if it was, I'd be interested, having bought the original collection back in 2002. I wasn't criticizing your right to review new discs, old discs or even completely fabricated discs. Why's everybody so cranky this decade?

Bravo, Moriarity! As part of the Filipino-American community in California, I've been hearing a lot about this Cavite movie and how our community should be should supporting this film to give Filipino/Fil-Am filmmakers a push. I'm so glad that this movie got a decent review here... didn't think this movie would hit the radar.

Yes, the last two albums are lame. I don't argue that. Mori's a big fan and he admits that Rattle & Hum is bloated. And yes, Bono can be annoying. But just because they're in a rut and/or transitional phase doesn't mean that everything they've ever put out is bland like "tuna sandwiches with no crusts". Go back and listen to War, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and Zooropa. They're a fantastic band with a unique voice (another reason they may sound "bland" is because of bland imitators such as Coldplay). I still look forward to their new albums.
