New Blood May Be Just What This Show Needs

I have been a "Gilmore Girls" fan since the start, and I am totally willing to give Rosenthal a chance to save this show following the disappointment that was Season 6 (although Lane's wedding episode late in the season was the best hour of television I've seen this year). As long as he can get that rapid-fire patter down that "Gilmore" is known for, I'd love to see the characters taken in new directions from the unpopular ones the Palladinos had locked them into.

The show went downhill into disappointment when April, Luke's long-lost daughter, was introduced. Up until then, Season 6 had been extremely pleasurable, great TV ... especially the "Revenge of the Sith" episode where Luke stood on top of the house he was renovating for him and Lorelai and declared, "I have the high ground!" Classic!

I know that sounds really lame, but I hope Luke and Lorelai work everything out, and end up together. As for Rory, man has Logan grown on me as well, calling her Ace all the time. Well, it can't be worse than season 5 for sure.
Sounds like there might be hope for the show again.

As much as I liked the Palladino's style, the past two seasons have been mostly crap. Starting with the last few episodes of season 4, the show went wacky with too many side plots, shifting alliances, and swirling romances. It's one thing to have cameos by the supporting characters but we definitely don't need any more major plot lines revolving around Lane and her band, Luke's sister and her husband, Luke and April, Sookie and Jackson, Paris and her boyfriend, Christopher and his daughter, Kirk and Lulu, etc. etc. etc. Hopefully Rosenthal can get the show calmed down a bit and focused once again on the title Gilmore Girls (Rory, Lorelai, and Emily)instead of continuing to make them featured players in a larger ensemble.

Except the subplot where Luke falls in love with Heidi Klum. God. I can't take this guy seriously. I'm hoping I can just watch the show and not notice the changes.

she was a plot development and not a character. She was an artificial device designed to force dramatic tension between Luke and Lorelai. Though I have to admit I loved the ep where Lorelai took over Luke's lame birthday party for April.

just when i've totally given up on this show, this news draws me back in. Maybe the ASP departure is a good thing, thou I will always wonder what she had written for the last scene. Hmm, maybe I will check out 7.1 after all.

... still on par or better than any other TV dramedy during the 2005-06 season? I really don't understand why it's become common knowledge that season 6 was crap. I guess it's just part of the love/backlash cycle that happens when something goes on for a while. I personally liked exploring what Lorelai and Rory are like apart, as well as things like: the DAR party (when Richard chews out Logan's dad), Taylor's weird street name proposal, the trip to the Vineyard, the Paul Anka cameo, the Lane and Zach wedding, etc. As for season 6, I have little doubt that it will be good, it just won't be what ASP had in mind, and so in some sense it will feel to me like really, really well done Gilmore fan fiction.

than when Lorelai and Rory are emotionally brutalised then dig their way out of it. I loved 'the prodigal daughter returns' even more than my previous favourite 'dear emily and richard'. I fear for the show because the past history of TV shows a great show drowning when its creators leave it: buffy and alias for example. no matter how talented the people left behind are, it's just not the same. I almost want to write down my prediction for the end of the show, but I'm afraid of the reaction on here

There were moments of goodness last season, but they were only moments in an otherwise drab episode. The Real Paul Anka was funny, but only 2 minutes of the episode. The giant Gilmore blowout over dinner was the last 10 minutes. The only episode to hold interest for the whole episode was the Zach and Lane's wedding. It was too extreme. The drama was realy over the top, and the comedy was there to lighten things up, but awkwardly. Oh, and I am gay for noticing this.
I agree, the story arcs weren't perfect

Good points, Darth_Nader. However, I think there were a LOT of moments of goodness -- Zach writing the hit song with Mrs. Kim, for instance, was another one. And Gilmore, more than a lot of shows, is built on moments -- awesome runs of dialogue and amazingly unique little scenes are what I love. Plus, the flaws people describe -- well, I've frequently had problems in the past with what I consider annoying motivations for the characters, so that's not new to the last season. I'll freely admit that there were some plot points I had trouble getting behind toward the end of the season (wait, why did Anna Nardini angrily forbid Lorelai from seeing April?), but people were jumping on the hater bandwagon before the season even started, and I just really don't think it was the unmitigated disaster people are making it out to be.
Michel's Sexuality

I've always wondered if his character is supposed to be gay. The show doesn't make it clear (unless I'm just being real dense, which is possible). Does anyone have any insights as to whether the actor who plays Michel is gay, or the character is gay, and whether the ambiguity is done on purpose?
