A couple shows each season are pretty good. Unfortunately, the rest are mindless, by the numbers crap. There's so much potential to make this thing big. It's too bad. And screw Jimmy Olsen. Who cares? People don't read/buy Superman for Jimmy Olsen. Make Batman or someone else 'Big' in the DC Universe a regular. And get rid of Lana or make her not-annoying. Same with Martha Kent. Get rid of Ma Kent and bring back the dad (yeah, I know that doesn't jive with the comic). Give Superman his full powers already and give him some real bad guys that can go toe to toe with him. This whole "Discovering Who I Am" story crap is only good for 2 years or so at best. Oh, and Lex and his dad are good characters and Chloe is hot. She should be the one Clark is after. Give this series to Ron Moore and the BSG crew to see how good the show can really be.

WITHOUT ME??? And Herc, theres more additions this season that you forgot to mention, of course they haven't been confirmed, but it does look like we will be seeing Lori Lemaris, and Oliver Queen this year. One has to wonder if Queen (Green Arrow) has replaced the long rumored, Martian Manhunter as the new Smallville sheriff. Remember, Lana did say the new sherrif was green, "literally". And speaking of Jimmy, no one can make gay jokes about this version of Supe's pal. The boy fucking took Miss Sullivan's virginity, as revealed in that very special episode of Smallville, also known as "Jason Was A Gawd Damned Idiot For Not Hitting That" I mean c'mon, he had his chance to bang Lana, she was practically laying the poon out for him, but he was all "I'll wait till your ready" and then the bitch went back to Clark, he was shot, and to top it off, a fucking meteor fell on him! That was Jensen's second great send off from a show, the fist being him trying to outrun a train in his car. (Try to guess that one) BACK TO JIMMY...Would titty fucking Chloe count as taking her virginity? Because, I can't imagine any of us would concentrate on anything else, even if you're not a boob guy. We got Jimmy, Lois, Clark, the Daily Planet, Metropolis, we've seen Perry White, we've seen it all! SUPERMAN! And who gives a rat's ass if it bumps into the movie's territory, they deserve a little infringement from SMALLVILLE now that Singer will be on the unemployment line with his equally malinformed screenwriters. Next time, learn your character before you go and give him a kid and have him stalk Lois outside her husband-to-be's home. I expect Superman to be a loan shark in the sequel at this rate.

At this rate, I think for the final episode, they should have Clark sacrifice himself, Jesus-like, in order to save humanity from a grave danger (alien invasion/destruction of the planet?). Thus, the series ends with Clark dying in the last episode -- he never became Superman. I am being totally serious. We could then right off this entire series as having been an "Elseworlds" type of continuity. Or, taking a cue from "The Death and Life of Superman" comic book miniseries, they could hint at Clark's eventual resurrection in the finale, to leave that door open. But, really, I say kill off Clark in the finale.

Donner's films were the closest in spirit, and George Reeves was the closest in appearance. Where's the big, muscular, lantern-jawed, late 30-something looking authoritarian guy? Why is he constantly represented on-screen by a glass-jawed, scrawny, young-looking guy? And why does Smallville take such liberties with the characters? Lex's EVIL TWIN? Jimmy hanging out with Clark prior to his move to Metropolis? Gods, this show has ZERO credibility when it comes to comics lore, and yet the Dini shows are the ones that have been pulled? Dini was the only one who ever did Superman right. He was the only one who ever characterized Lex properly. Screw WB for using Superman as a way to get girls to watch a "cute guy" in a romantic super soap opera (both SR and Smallville). I want SUPERMAN, not Super General Hospital.

End it already...they are taking too many liberties with the story...bad enough that as things stand right now, Superman would have to kiss everyone in Smallville like he did to Lois in Superman 2, otherwise the second he appeared in his tights, it would take all of 2 seconds for Lex and others to figure out who he is...stupid writers, so much potential just thrown away, what's next, Lana is actually Wonder Woman?

You really walked right into that one. And no, Clark would not have to kiss everyone ala Superman 2 to erase memories. They've already written in a character that can memory wipe people, so he may figure into it. But my guess is, a.Jor-El will come up with some sort of Super plan. Or b.Jim Jam Bong's suggestion. But if Warner Bros. is smart, they won't take that route, because they've got something here. i.e. a cheaper film franchise.

The series finale could hint at the possibility that after the events of the final episode, Clark would eventually be resurrected, and, thus, become Superman. Clark has to die so he can become reborn into something greater (like Jesus or Obi-Wan). This idea would make a lot of sense for this show.

SUPERMAN RETURNS SPOILER QUESTION

Maybe this has already been answered in the SR talkback, but have you seen the size of that thing? Anyway, about this kid that Lois and Superman have together - how does SHE think she got pregnant with him? If we're using Superman 2 as our backstory, Clark gave up his powers to have a relationship with her, they had sex, then he changed his mind, got his powers back, and gave her the kiss that makes people forget stuff. So she shouldn't remember any of that - and, in SR, she DOESN'T know that Clark is Superman, but she does know that the baby is his (Superman's, not Clark's). So what is her memory of this baby's conception? It almost seems like this movie is suggesting an alternate backstory where she had a relationship with Superman AS Superman, without finding out about Clark. And that's kind of gross.//////Anyway, about Jimmy on Smallville - number one, it's a horrible idea; number two, he'd better be pleasantly nerdy and not a cool dude with an attitude who don't take lip from nobody.

Some of them I don't mind so much, and some of them scream out "ratings grab". There's absolutely no rhyme or reason for having Jimmy Olsen show up in Smallville and interact with Clark Kent. None. The same way there wasn't any reason to have Lois Lane show up. Part of the Superman mythos is that he meets up with these characters for the first time in his next life as Clark Kent, super-journalist. Now, notice I said nothing about Aquaman -- because I thought that was a pretty cool little crossover. Obviously, the big heroes of DC would be approximately the same age, and even though that character was vastly different from the Arthur we know from the comics... there was still a glimmer of continuity. But hey, what do I know... I'm just a longtime fan.

Of course the producers of this show are not going to do that, but why not? They are ALREADY violated almost every continuity timeline that we know of, so why not do this anyways? What is there to lose? Since they don't seem care about violating the age or time chronologies that we already know exist with the Superman mythos, this is a great idea, as far as I am concerned. With the new CW network starting in mid September, the show's producers would REALLY make a splash by throwing caution to the wind, and bring in many of the JLU characters from time to time. That would make the show better than it is right now, and it would attract (or keep) the show's TRUE audience demographic: guys aged 11-34. Makes sense to me...

This isn't the DCU, it isn't the comics. It's a whole other entity. And even if you wanna play that card, having Clark know Lois and Jimmy before he becomes Supes is nowhere near as severe as killing off Cyclops. And remember, this isn't Shakespeare. And it could be a lot worse. Lois & Clark anyone??? This is the best real life translation of Supes yet. Even with it's numerous speed bumps, it feels like it's going somewhere, unlike Superman Returns where you feel like you're just driving around the block for lord knows how many times.

no reason for Jimmy?
by oisin5199
Jul 12th, 2006

I'd say there's a huge reason for Jimmy. Since Pete left, Clark hasn't had a single male friend. Giving him some guy time may make him a bit less whiny, instead of constantly going to St. Chloe about Lana. I really liked how they changed Chloe's character initially, but then they took it way too far. Now with Jimmy, Chloe can get some and actually have her own plot points (besides being the selfless confessor), and Clark can have a male friend. Perfect. As far as continuity goes, who gives a shit? It's an Elseworld. It was never supposed to be a direct adaptation of anything. It's more of a What If scenario (yeah, I know that's Marvel). Superman is a myth. Any good myth from any culture has many, many different and contradictory versions and superheroes are no different. Between this and the excellent SR movie, I'm so tired of everyone whining about continuity and 'it's not faithful to the characters,' when there's an infinite number of versions and all are good stories. Having said all that, I agree that many of the Smallville storylines (mostly involving Lana) were crap.
If that's the case, Shermdawg...

...then why cast Tom Welling as Clark Kent? Why not cast the kid that plays Walt on "Lost" and make D.L. Hughley his dad, and Vivica A. Fox his mom? We can set the entire series in the 'hood of Smallville, a small borough of New York City. Lex Luther could be played by Mr. Bookman from "Good Times". Wouldn't that be great? NO, IT WOULDN'T. Because even though this is a "separate entity", as you so succinctly put it, it is still based part-and-parcel upon a mythos made popular in comic books. To ignore that mythos and build your own with no regard for what went before is not only bad form, it's bad business. You must've loved the Dolph Lundgren "Punisher" movie.

Shawn Ashmore aka Bobby Drake was a meteor freak named Eric Summers (no relation to Scott...altho I wouldn't be surprised if he is) several years ago on Smallville (one who was in several eps) Aaron Ashmore is his TWIN brother. Around Season 4 Chloe lost her virginity to Jimmy Olson, who is probably closer in age to Lois (who's about 22/23) than Clark, Lana, and Chloe (who are 19/20)

Nice how your example of 'ignoring the mythos' was all about race. You must have really hated a black Kingpin. Before you use the word 'mythos,' you should look up what it means. Continuity details can vary according to the version of the story being told. Remember when Clark Kent was a tv reporter? And he was in New York before it became Metropolis. It doesn't matter if a story changes at what point in his life he knew Lex or Lois, or whether he had a child or not. The point is whether it's true to the spirit of the mythos, which Smallville mostly has been. Yeah, it's a teen drama, but ultimately it's about the choices one makes when becoming an adult - the whole power and responsibility thing - which is exactly what Superman is about. So it's a fine interpretation of the myth, in my opinion.

Lana was part Native American instead of part Chinese. The actress who plays her is Chinese-Dutch, but I'm quite sure Ms. Lang is part Native American in this continuity. I have no problem with them playing around with the mythos in any of the two Superfranchises, I have no problem with Routh, and I have never really liked Welling as Kent. You'll call me crazy I know, but I felt that Dean Cain did a much better job with his portrayl than Welling with his. As for Luthors, it's a tie between Brown and Rosenbaum, and I hope the Lex in this series ends up walking the line and not go full villain. It would make perfect sense. A Luthor who doesn't mind getting his hands really dirty in order to better mankind, but at the same time has a hatred for Superman. A misguided hero really, now that would really be taking the franchise somewhere. And though it will never happen, because WB thinks we're too stupid to handle it, an alternate franchise of Superman starring Welling on the big screen could be really cool. In fact it would be the only one that could actually pull off a Batman/Superman flick, because despite what the writers of the Batman/Superman franchise would like to lead people to believe, both Batman Begins and Superman Returns are in two completely different universes that don't acknowledge the existence of any other DC heroes, kinda like those Marvel franchises.

SMALLVILLE hasn't been cancelled yet!?!?

I'm surprised that SMALLVILLE is still on the air. They've turned it into such a 90210/Dawson's Creek teenybopper piece of crap that I can't believe even the teenagers still watch this show that was ONCE good but not anymore. Everything in the show is SEX SEX SEX, SKIN SKIN SKIN. It's almost insulting to it's audience like the producers do not give them enough credit for being more intelligent than having the ability to think past hot girls in G Strings and sex. All this show is now is Dawson's Creek with superheros thrown in, and that sux. Season 2 and 3 were the best ones. Season 4 is when the show started to blow roapy goat chunks. And when they had the episode where all the girls turned into the Vampires, I just stopped watching it completely.
It was stupid to start them in High School

None of them look like they're in high school in season 1. They all look way too old. Even Lana (being the youngest when the show started I think) could have passed for an older girl. They should have started them out in Smallville Community College, then moving them up to a University. It would have mad a lot more sense.

a few things I'd like to clear up about Smallville
by zooch

1. They are not in high school anymore, they are in college. 2. Season 5 was one of the best seasons yet, both critically and successfully. 3. Smallville changes minor details but it is true to the characters and even adds more depth to them especially Lex, the Kents. 4. There are 3 versions of the Superman character: Kal-El last son Krypton Superman, Metropolis glasses Clark Kent, and young farmboy Kent, Smallville tells the Smallville Kent story and Tom Welling plays a great wholesome farmboy. 5. The producers have said Welling will not be in the suit. The changes are insignificant because once Clark becomes Superman the show is over.

Lazee, if I remember my 70's Superman lore correctly, wasn't Captain Strong the skipper that gained temporary super strength and was based on Popeye?
Mark my words, if they don't kill Clark in the finale..

we will see at least one shot of him in the suit. What better way to end the show? Also, the suit, well the cape, has already appeared.

Well, apparently yes or at least post talkbacks about shows they proclaim to have no interest in watching. Perhaps you need to get out more, start a hobby, or try watching something you enjoy.
I would love to see Tom Welling play Bizarro

Just picture the shitty make-up with Welling doing all that stupid Bizarro speak. Lana could get all confused and scrunch up her face. "Clark why are you talking like this? Are you trying to break up with me?" "Bizarro Clark hate Lana. Bizarro Clark doesn't want to tap ass. Hello."

The WB has finished the 7 million dollar Aquaman pilot, (even though the new head of the combined network won't greenlight the series), and will be airing it as a one off within the next 2 months.
He better pull out, then.

Who would move to Smallville?

Jimmy Olsen better have a damn good reason for going there coz every week some wierd shit happens. I have to say I now vastly prefer Smallville's version of Clark instead of the moronic Singer interpretation. Takes more than putting someone in the suit......and when is Smallville going to put glasses on Clark? Until SReturns I thought adult Clark wore glasses as a F*CKIN disguise!! Was young Clark in the film supposed to be trying out his disguise somehow by leaping over barns?? You gotta laugh though..I wonder how much it cost to grow those acres of cornfields in Australia's outback as publicised for that sequence that added absolutely nothing to an already overly expensive film?
Who say's Jimmy's MOVING to Smallville?

Clark and Lois are the only ones still living there. Jimmy will most likely (duh) be working at the Planet, or possibly attending Met.U.

They better take a cue from *Lois & Clark* and give Clark so sporty glasses and not the nerdish rims from the Donner movies (and the Donner immitator's recent film). End the "Donnerisms" on Smallville now. It should be mix of Byrne/post-Byrne/and Dini in terms of the mythos, with a splash of WB/CW drama. Rinse and repeat twice.

Chloe got her cherry popped by Jimmy remember? Hes probably just going to be there to be a rival to Clark now that hopefully Clark and Chloe will be an item.
No, since this only has one or two seasons left...

May I chime in...Fuck Continuity!

I could care less about continuity. This is a self-contained show as far as I'm concerned. Look back to the 100th episode. The first half was great. If Lana had died being chased by Lex and Lex finally knew Clark's secret, it would have been an incredible "holy shit" set up. And it's a much better explanation for their rivalry. But then they had to "correct" it and make it like the gay-assed Donner movies, by killing off the most genuine, loved character on the show. There's no reason for the crap filler episodes except that their hands are tied over the fanboys' demands for continuity. And this story has been told too many times to ever satisfy that demand. So move on and tell a new story. It's not like this Lex wouldn't be able to put two and two together when Supes does come out of the closet, so let him know already, while still walking the line between good and evil. ...... Herc, you hate Smallville. Deadwood is airing new episodes right NOW. It's also much more popular among talkbackers. Give us a true COAX talkback already.
No offense there bud, but the few Deadwood tb's

that HERC has gave ya, weren't as popular as yoiu may think. I'm pretty sure they didn't rank in the top three talkbacks (over it's first 24hrs), something that Smallville has done several times. I may be a "cocksucker" for bringing that up, but it's true.

Jimmy won't be actually living in Smallville, he'll be in Metropolis and working at the Daily Planet with Chloe. I think it's great, Chloe deserves a love interest and Clark could really use a male friend. I don't have a problem with Jimmy being older for the same reason as others: SV is an elseworld and a self-contained story. If Lana Lang can be Center Of The Universe, then Jimmy Olsen can be on Smallville. Also, Aussiello teased some big news that will apparently run in next week's issue of TV Guide. It supposedly has to do with a big DC character coming to town. We'll find out in a few days!
Huh?

Has to be Batman or Martian Manhunter

Only 2 guys left to make an appearance (can't see them fitting in Wonder Woman). If done right, a Bruce Wayne appearance would be the series highlight. Based upon what others have said here and elsewhere, I'm betting MM, though.

Looks interesting. I'm giving up on big screen Superman from now on. Despite being somewhat loose with traditional continuity, Smallville displays more heart, is more fun and has someone who's got a handle on how to play Lois Lane
No worries, Kenny.

I could've been more clear in my first post. Personally, I liked Kate Bosworth's Lois, and was glad that she was nothing Smallville's version. I heard a lot of complaints on SR Lois, but I thought it was appropriate that she be somewhat dour and sad on account of Superman leaving her. Getting back on topic, the general consensus appears to be that Batman's finally coming to Smallville, but I'm hoping it's Darkseid.
