before the next poster mentions quantum mechanics. I don't have a problem with the possibility of teleportation, but with the possiblility of constructing a realistic story around it. Teleportation just makes things too easy. Unless they're going for a "Fly" treatment, which doesn't seem to be the case, I can't really see how they can generate any actual tension out of a kid who can, via teleportation, effectively do anything.

A recent minor classic of SF adventure, something like Heinlein's juvenile books of the 50s and something like Ender's Game. Could be a fantastic film. To take a page from Herc's playbook, here is the Amazon link: http://tinyurl.com/f2jyk

What about The Stars My Destination? The whole plot hinges on jaunting. It's been done, and done well: proof of concept for SF.

He may not be to everyone's taste but I think he's four for four since SWINGERS. And each film has managed to be interesting AND entertaining (so rare especially this summer) - including MR. & MRS. SMITH. One of my favorite, if not my favorite, filmmaker working today.

Always thought that more realistic 'powers' would be ESP type stuff like Scanners. I can even believe invisibility with some science. A kid that can teleport at will... don't know about that. I'll wait and see. If they can explain how it works without it being sucky then yeah, I'll give it a go.

Which was actually pretty good. It was a fairly realistic take on what would happen if someone got this ability. And had some dark moments. His power first manifests itself when he's about to be raped. And one of the first things he does is rob a bank. This could be really good.
It would be good if...

If it followed the story of the novel with some degree of accuracy. It doesn't sound like it tho'...gonna be a 'based on' and who knows where that's gonna go.. Gould's books are really quite good...

...but that's besides the point. I'm looking forward to this one quite a bit because I'm a fan of Liman's. I don't really get how being able to teleport makes it that much easier to figure out who killed someone, unless there are a lot of locked doors you need opened, but I'm sure the film will be interesting regardless. Based on the name "Jumper" it sounds like it definitely will have that dark streak some folks are looking for.

He needs to stop all the shitty, quasi-straight to DVD movies... if I remember there may have actually been a time years and years ago when people actually considered him a serious actor. Although I'm hoping Black Snake Moan will actually offer him the chance to give a real performance for a change.
I hope it doesn't

have a 20 minute long sequence in the middle with Benny Hill type music over Sam chasing the baddie, coming out of different doors, teleporting here and there. I think that would be a wrong way to do it..

This is a quite cool 80's teen novel and has so much potential. However it's not about an NSA agent pursuing a boy who can teleport, it's about the boy's coming of age... and he can teleport. big frigging difference!!! Being a SLJ junket will fuck it.

like the teleporter could touch someone and teleport everything except for a tumor, and the tumor would just fall to the ground after they teleported, or if someone was constipated to the point of a medical emergency, the kid could grab his wrist and teleport them both, leaving nothing but the other person's impacted colon-sludge, which would fall harmlessly to the ground. Why can't Hollywood think of good ideas, like that one?

Ok, I thought this was another book. I seemed to remember a story about a kid who could teleport also called Jumper, he like steals some money, builds a house in the desert and kills terrorists, is this the same book? It doesn't sound like it, but two books with the same title and teleporting kids and the like?

I thought the book was a good time. I enjoyed it. I hope they keep most of the elements and the overall theme of the book but I can see them adding this story line to it just to create the conflict of a different viewpoint. I look forward to it.

MR. AND MRS. SMITH was an interesting commentary on marriage. And besides, Liman is now doing a much smaller budgeted Nick film after two huge blockbusters. Which gives me great confidence in the material. Just shows you where his head is REALLY at.
