I agree, it'd be lame if they had Marko responsible for Ben Parker's death. Like having The Joker kill Bruce Wayne's parents. There's enough motive for Spiderman to go after Sandman without this. I hope it's the symbiote screwing with Parker.

It could work if that's why Raimi and Co. think they need to do. It doesn't really matter either way in regard to the first film...as long as Peter's letting the robber go is still the cause of Uncle Ben's demise.

Sandman no longer Sympathetic?
by abominate
Jul 5th, 2006
09:10:42 AM
If this is true, so much for Marko being a sympathetic villain where he's robbing because his daughter needs medical treatment or something like that. If he shot Uncle Ben, that's it--game over--he's a bad, bad guy and we don't feel sorry for him. But the bigger problem is this: Peter thinks he's partly responsible for Uncle Ben's death because he let the other robber (Poppajohn) get away. He'd have no reason at all to know that Flint Marko was involved, or was the trigger man, and Marko would have no occasion to divulge that info to Spiderman or Peter unless he knew that 1) Peter was Spidey and 2) that Ben was Peter's Uncle. And if Peter finds out that Marko did in fact shoot Uncle Ben, we lose a part of that "responsibility" theme we get from the comics, and the story as told in Spidey 1. No longer would Peter have that guilt complex. Oh sure, he'd still feel responsible because he's a super-guy, but if he goes after Sandman clearly it's a revenge thing (unless Sandman is putting someone else in harm's way). This is an interesting twist. Not a huge spoiler for me, but if it's "real" and not a "dream" sequence, very curious. I was kinda hoping for Sandman to be a bad guy who used his powers for once not to rule the city or destroy it, but purely for his own personal reasons, and have him not real be a "bad" guy of the mad scientist variety.

Although we don't really know the complete plot as of yet, I just don't see how Sandman could relevantly fit in to Uncle Ben's death. It certainly flies in the face of the comics, but if you think about the direction the films have taken, then it really doesn't jive with then either. Hell, who knows though- Part 3's are traditionally supposed to warp everything we thought was true. Did the Scream franchise teach us nothing? ;) www.cinemahell.com

I went into SUPERMAN RETURNS without reading ANY spoilers about ANYTHING. And after that experience (which I've enjoyed progressively more after seeing it the second and third time around) I've come to the conclusion that its sometimes its better to read spoilers so that you don't spend the entire movie thinking WTF! They did THAT! Instead of enjoying the actual structure of the narrative. It can be an unintentional (good or bad) distraction. Remember, "Luke I am your father" came with 10 minutes to go in the film.

By convincing Peter, in his dreams, that Sandman is responsible for Ben's death, Venom hopes to twist Parker's mind and send him on a path of bloody revenge. What does Venom get out of this? By weakening Parker's resolve with guilt and hatred and bloodlust, the symbiont Venom can more easily merge with Peter's consciousness.

Ok, I'm not usually one to flame, but c'mon, you've GOT to be kidding about that "hidden face" link. That "face" is formed from two spiderman posters being pasted together and then flipped upside down! You know, I'm sure you could take the old, original Star Wars poster, cut it up, rearrange the pieces and flip it to a certain angle so that the face of Qui-Gon Jinn appears. That face is NOTHING! Anything that is 'hidden' in the poster would be visible in just ONE poster and be able to be seen when viewed right-side-up. (methinks someone has WAAAAAAAY too much time on his hands)

I've told on countless occasions how I came across it, I'm kinda tired of telling it, but I will once again. AICN posted a fan altered version of the teaser image in which Pete (?) was wearing the classic symbiote suit. I wanted to make a desktop image out of the two. I mirrored them, and noticed the teeth. I wasn't looking for them, they just stood out. I tilted my head a little and noticed something strange, so I flipped it and saw the eyes and nose. The white patch above the eyes that I marked was pointed out by a fellow talkbacker, I sadly forgot who. Hiding things in posters aren't that crazy, I mean, if anyone was to study it is comic nerds. (Frnakly, I'm not a huge fan of Raimi's Spidey flicks, so I wouldn't have wasted time doing that. It was merely a accident, that I came across it.) And to be honest, did you ever think, since the process that it was found in resembles a Rorscach test, which is mostly given to crazy people who a suffering from delusions, don't you think maybe, just maybe, it's might be a hint at the rumor of Bruce Campbell's Mysterio cameo? I mean if there ever was a villian that would make you see things it's him. Of course it could be anybody.

I know this is a little more far fetched, but there is something there, regardless if it has anything to do with the film or not. BTW, X-men (the property, not the films) is my Star Wars, so I did put timne looking into the trailers. I noticed the laser bolts flying past Storm while grabbing screenshots, and evidence started mounting up. Theres not much other eveidence to go on with the teaser pic. Well, unless you go with one of the countless theories as to whats in the eye lens.

The symbiote leads him on a roaring rampage of revenge against Sandy, who is actually innocent of killing ben(though guilty of a whold mess of other stuff). This all fits quite nicely with the symbiote storyline that Sargent and Raimi are developing. This movie is going to kick unholy ass.

Given the nature of filmmaking, and the lack of any indication otherwise, did anyone on this board stop to consider that maybe -- just maybe -- Ben's and Sandman's scenes were just being shot the same night in roughly the same location and that, just maybe, the two actors were photographed talking to each other between takes? I mean, yes, there is the presence of Poppajin or whatever his name is, but I don't think it's Venom twisting Peter's mind -- or the symbiote, as it were. I mean, Peter's got this event in the back of his head all the time, right? It could be a scene where Ben's ghost tries to tell Peter what really happened and we see it for ourselves. I mean, in the first movie, we didn't actually SEE Ben's car get "jacked" and Ben shot. The police said it and Peter described in in part 2, but it wasn't actually seen. It just strikes me how many reasons we AICN readers can come up with to either love or hate a movie nearly a full year before its release, based solely on a few behind-the-scenes photos and a teaser trailer that might, like the SUPERMAN RETURNS trailers, contain footage not even included in the film. How's about this? Topher Grace isn't Eddie Brock but is actually playing Ben Reilly?! Curt Connors was in SM 2 as a friend of Otto Octavius; now, what's not to say that Doc Ock contacted his friend and informed him that Peter Parker was Spiderman? My feeling is that the Venom storyline involves Ben Reilly taking over Parker's life and that Curt Connors actually becomes the Jackal rather than The Lizard! besides which, watch SM2 again folks; Curt Connors owns both arms.....

I think Rami did a great job casting Peter Parker, Dock Ock, and Green Goblin. And thank God Tobey McGuire actually bulked up as opposed to wearing a rubber suit with fake muscles. But he is really missing the mark with the women. MJ is supposed to be supermodel hot and Kirsten Dunst just doesn't cut it. She seems to have "hit the wall" and gotten uglier by Spiderman2. She does have great tits but she covered them up in the 2nd movie. Bryce Howard is very cute but not up to Gwen Stacy. A couple of cute actresses to play comic book hot women. I guess Hollywood has run out of hot actresses. And why can't Eddie Brock be a dumb muscle-head like in the comics?

Sam Raimi and Alvin Sargent are in charge of Spidey III, same as the second one. Not worried one bit as it's in the hands of master storytellers.

There are plenty of articles online which are critical of AICN, such as on Film Threat, but you don't see them being shut down, do you? Again, your lies are apparent. Unless it's a double-secret webpage which only you have access to, then anybody can read it, and I'm sure they'd want as many people as possible to. Your laughable "I don't rat people out for telling the truth" excuse is just your way of avoiding the fact that you've lied from day one -- there is no webpage with that article, double-secret or not. ...in those pics, it looks like Flint is kinda' comforting Uncle Ben more than anything else; sure he coulda' been in on the robbery & carjacking, but like in the comics, Sandman didn't really like to kill anyone, so maybe he's pissed off that the mugger shot Uncle Ben when it wasn't necessary? Maybe Flint happened to be walking by at the wrong time? Maybe he's being framed? All I do know is his killing Uncle Ben sounds waaaaaaaay too out of character, esp. with Raimi who so far, has been a stickler for following the characterizations to a "t."

for proving to me that someone else has the common sense to see that Maguire is a joke (at least at Spiderman). The guy comes off as someone who would make a perfect addition to the cast of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, except he isn't quite as gay (oops, I meant "jolly"). Surely they could have found someone with a bit of a dangerous edge? The only danger you sense from Tobe is that he'll hump your leg or use up a whole box of Kleenex sobbing over all his issues. The only thing making these movies watchable is Sam Raimi. The dude's a genius- with a camera, anyway.

i have a feeling that it's going to do down that sandman was the first person to notice ben parker. ben probably stumbles into him first and asks for help. sandman probably doesn't know what he should do and leaves him there but not before he steals something off of him. he then takes off and thats when others around finally notice ben.

The good part of not caring is that FINALLY I get to read a spoiler. You don't know how many times I have sped through an article just to get a lil some.. but not TOO much. But with Spiderman? No problem, the movies are meh and I don't get jazzed about these movies. So I read away. Now the bad part- I just found out that I don't really care that the Sandman killed Ben Parker. Oh well.
This is barely an "Oh Shit" kind of moment...

And with Rosemary Harris on the scene, I'm lead to believe this is a follow up as opposed to a flaskback.

OK...it has been hinted at that Bruce Campbell may play Mysterio in an upcoming Spiderman film...well I personally think that he IS Quentin Beck and I fully expect see Campbell as QB introduced in Spiderman 3...Bruce has been listed in the cast in the first two films...Spiderman (Ring Announcer) Spiderman 2 (Snooty Usher)...but guess what...if you look at the cast list for the 3rd film..(IMDB.com)...he's not there...is Rami hiding something here...are we in for a surprise perhaps...you know he'll be in it!...here's another little tid-bit I turned up the other night...Quentin Beck is a makeup artist/ illusionist...correct?...Check out this line from the Snooty Usher (Campbell) to Peter Parker from Spiderman 2...I think it's a dead giveaway that Campbell is slated to play Mysterio. Snooty Usher: No one will be seated after the doors are closed. It helps maintain the {{ ILLUSION }}. And there is that scene with Harry looking down from what looks like a seat in a balcony somewhere...could he be watching a show featuring an illusionist perhaps...who knows...I doubt that we'll see Mysterio in this one...but I do think we will be introduced to a Mr. Quentin Beck aka Bruce Campbell. I also think we make see the origin of The Lizard here...they've been teasing us with this one long enough...Lizard may not play a prominent roll here...but I think Rami will give us a little taste. Here's my last prediction... The blond chic who lives next to Peter Parker (you know..the one who brings him the chocolate cake)...who is she exactly and what pivotal part does she play in these films?...it is my guess that Rami will introduce her as the Black Cat...her name is not Felicia..but it is Ursula..sort of similar...not exactly by the book as far as characters go...but hey...look what he's doing with The Sandman and Uncle Ben...anything can happen here...one last thing here...and this is a real stretch...what if Rami does the ol' switchero and has Spiderman kill Mary Jane this time instead of Gwen Stacey...wouldn't that be a shocker...Kirsten Dunce did say she wanted her character to be killed off..and she does want out of the series...that would be totally F'ed up!..but hey..when have they ever cared what the fans thought...whichever one bites the dust...I believe it will be the symbiote out of jealousy..who will ultimately cause Spiderman to kill em'...and that will be the reason that he will rid himself of the symbiote...which I believe will happen at the very end of the film..at the church..overlooking a funeral perhaps?...I also very much doubt this will be a Venom film...we may see him at the very end as a lead in to Spiderman 4....anyway..that's my two cents.

What if its all an illusion. Obviously Venom is in the movie, but that will maintain they'll have to introduce his origin. What if, the darkness overcoming Parker is a mental metaphor of the intense psychological distress his mind is undergoing witnessing all this evil yet having to play "above the line" only catching the criminals, never extracting revenge? Venom becomes an outlet for his frustration of never achieving vengence. It frees him of the responsibility of being just and lets him be vengeful. These vibes mixed with an unknown concoction actually create the Venom monster which then moves to Eddie. Just a thought. Note to Jar Jar: In many of your posts, you denounce people's beliefs. Not once do you allude to the fact that in America, that person's beliefs are just as protected as yours are. To call their views worthless and demean somebody because of them only says you have no respect for the individuals beliefs or the system from which they were formed. This would also invalidate your own set of beliefs seeing as how they were formed from the same system. You can disagree, adamantly even so, with another's views, but to attack them because of what they believe only betrays any sound edification to your own arguments. Be they a homophobic racist republican or an infantile bleeding heart liberal make sure it is the opinio you attack with well reasoned arguments, so even if the other party engages in said behaviour, you can carry yourself with the proper amoount of accord.

you wouldnt care if this is true. Come on now, comic story lines change all the time. they didnt it with the ultimate spiderman and venom and so on. These movies arent suppossed to exact copies of the comics. they are extentions on the story line to the spider-man universe. If these were exactly liek the comics then we would ahve had The Terrible Tinkler in spider man 2 instead of doc ock, just everybody relax and let Raimi tell his version of a spider-man comic.
