I like Fincher a lot, like Gyllenhal, and Downey Jr., and I have doen a lot of research on the killer and it IS pretty interesting stuff, but Zodiac is a much better title. I suppose it does make sense, but still. Let's hope it's a good movie.

Been looking forward to this one ever since it was revealed that Fincher was attached. Here's hoping they don't wimp-out and cut it back to 120 minutes or less. Here's to January 2007!

I've been thinking that since I read about the postponement a month ago. It worked for SILENCE OF THE LAMBS - but I have a feeling that was more Orion not knowing what the fuck they had on their hands, what with Demme having just shot a completely different and far from universally critically praised (but fantastic) film in MARRIED TO THE MOB. I mean even February would be less puzzling. Eh, I'm excited. We'll see.

Based on Graysmith's insane babbling & falsifications?
by SalvatoreGravano

With thrice-cleared Arthur Allen named as the culprit? Lovely! What other idiocies are there? Does Graysmith still "solve" the 340-character crypt? Does Graysmith's non-Zodiac still use the laughable "light machine", so that Graysmith can ignore the handwriting analysis? Oh, and, incidentally, does the film feature that proud chapter in Graysmith's life when he was terminated for repeated plagiarisms?
By the way, I'd welcome Lawrence Kane's review of this.

I looked it up in IMDB and it doesn't look like he is attached for cinematography. Though the directer is ultimately responsible for how the film looks I wonder if a lot of what people associate as "Fincher-like" has to do more with the specific and unique cinematography Darius Khondji has employed through Finchers successful films?

Or maybe its in reference to the San Francisco Chronicle paper. No matter because a couple of summers back there was an ABC 20/20 special about the anniversary of Zodiac and that fuckin special scared the shit out of me. Late at night, family went to bed, I was the only one up, all the lights were out. They had this creepy voice reading the Zodiacs letters, kind of the like the Jigsaws puppets voice - "This is the Zodiac." They showed sketches of him in his hooded mask - creepy! And it takes a lot to creep me out. They reenacted the murders at the Lake where he just walked up in broad daylight on that couple, with the hood on. Almost shat my pants I tell ya.
If the Zodiac is still around, I'm sure he'd say...

"This is the Zodiac speaking - change the name back to 'Zodiac'. 'Chronicles' sounds so pedestrian." In code, of course. Did anyone else see the super-cheesy 1970s "Zodiac" film that they made esentially so that they could catch him? They had a contest in the lobby of the theater - you were supposed to fill out a card that began "The Zodiac kills because..." and then drop it in a box - which had a detective inside, reading all the notes in case the REAL Zodiac filled one out! Hilarious! I wonder if they'll include that in the new movie...

This should be great. I'm glad he's sticking with the humor, because the jokes in Panic Room were dam goood. Stick with what you know. How are we going to understand the story without some drawn out cgi dolly into a wall or some shit. And no Dust Brothers. Get John Willy on that shit make it sound like poltergeist. I'm mean, what? Chronicles of the Zodiac? Do we see a knife wielding lion roaming San Franciso? I mean, what-the-fug?! What's the story about? Chronicles or Zodiac? How stupid are you execs? This was the best written script I've read in last year's batch. Oscar stuff. The "baby" line must be kept in the film. Its one of the most terrifying moments. I agree about the humor. Cut it down. Reshoot, if you must. The dark humor cop talk is works though. I hope they kept the original ending too. Brilliant stuff!

about a year agao. Amazing piece of screenwriting. Only the worst of hacks would have a hard time fucking up Vanderbilts draft, let alone David Fincher. Even though it didn't have the sorts of Hollywood moments you would expect, it was entertaining in the way All the Presidents Men is. Very compelling. I really can't wait to see it. I also want to see the DV look. I hate DV but I'm sure the movie should rise above it given the elements involved. Vanderbilts script for Against All Enemies was equally as amazing given the subject matter. I worry Haggis will fuck it up. Really there's no reason to change a word.

Yes, "Fight Club" is brilliant, the best film of the 90's (Seriously!) but except for this, he never did anything special. It's not only that "Seven" had a stupid script (In the second half), even visually it'S not the original masterpiece, that many people think it is. Dario Argento made better looking movies more than 20 years before!

Mark Ruffalo, Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr are all fantastic, so I hope the film lives up to it's promise. I didn't hate Panic Room I was just very Meh about it, I wouldn't watch it again any time soon. Fight Club on the other hand I could watch over and over. If anything this film sounds intelligent and interesting which is too fucking rare at the moment. Oh and to the third reviewer I'm sure Fincher didn't cut that line out to personally spite you. The damn you! was a bit heavy handed. And the first reviewer? you are indeed a cunt.

I love Fight Club, don't like Panic Room(Jodie one face Foster!)Seven was amazing! this looks too cool! and not flashy in an MTV way which his previous efforts all have so that's good, and the name change doesn't really bother me as long as the movie is good, they could call it 'Finchy Finch Finch' and I'd watch it.

All those who are calling he 1st reviewer "a douche", or "a cunt", or "a choad whore", or whatever are a bunch of nitwits. He's parodying the types of letters that the Zodiac killer wrote. Zodiac would write "If you don't print this on the front page..." kind of stuff. Really, didn't any of you ever watch a documentary or read about this stuff before?

I tried it earlier, and everyone's too busy slagging the reviewer off and feeling superior. I didn't know about that stuff either but the mannered writing = serial killer is so obvious you can work out that that's what he was getting at anyway. Lame maybe, but not 'cunt'-worthy. Everyone's ripping on the stupid title too because they haven't worked out there's another movie called Zodiac released beforehand. They are right that it's lame though. The other flick should have to change theirs. Or they should both be called Zodiac and see who swims - I mean it's not like you can copyright a real person's 'name' (yeah I know, marketing reasons etc.), is it? How many fucking magazines are called 'Edge'?!

...if the studio have a potential critical smash on their hands - and with this kind of talent on board, it's obvious they're gonna open it Xmas day at one cinema to qualify for award season - why would they drop something like this in January and forget about it? Unless it's Fincher wanting a slightly a-typical release date.

It IS his worst film (second act sucks arse - first and third acts are great), but still better than what most others turn out, and definitely better than the unbelievably bad Resurrection (and I LOVE Jeunet). Which Fincher film do you think is actually his worst? _______________ - And what's with everyone lately and their "It's cool to trash Seven" garbage? Go back and watch that thing again! For a flick that plays with the conventions where you never see the killings yet retains the suspense (and fucked up so many bimbos who didn't bother to notice what the flick was about and went in for a Brad Pitt perve) - well, I just don't undestand why it's so cool to rag on it. My aren't we superior in our little corner of the world! Why aren't you directing your scorn at the moronic Ashley Judd/Morgan Freeman films? THEY deserve it!

really stoked for this. Fincher is a truely exciting talent. He has a great visual style but can also tell a story (Tony Scott take note!). Anyone that doesn't think that Seven, The Game, and Fight Club are very good doesn't know shit. People only rag on Alien 3 and Panic Room cos they are only good, as opposed to fantastic. I have great hopes for this.

This movie took forever to shoot (mostly because Fincher is nuts), went way over budget, and now with these reviews appears to be something so convoluted and unwieldy that of course it's missing a Christmas opening and is now consigned to the no-man's-land of January 2007. Too bad; I think it could have been a great film in the right hands.

I have seen all of the z movies and most were just ok. I have high hopes for this one to be closer to the truth about how the police did not work together on this case.I believe the Zodiac knew that they wouldn't, and that is why he killed in different counties.I worked in vallejo when he killed there in 68 and 69. I was followed by a olderman who stole my coil wire out of my car in 68 in Vallejo. I believe to this day that he most likely was the Zodiac. The man who followed me back then is still alive and enjoys trying to scare me. I have been shot at ( he missed ),I have notes that I have been told is very much like the Zodiacs printing. In the beginning I recieved a love note, ending with fighting the urge to add, non plussed. It was signed "More than just friends" I have his DNA,printing, and had a costume put in my car, that could very well be the one used at the Lake Berryessa stabbing with the black hood. When I found it I thought it was just someones Halloween costume. It is unbelievable that I am still alive, and so it is thought that it must be a copy cat.I was stalked so many yrs that the police asked me to take his picture. In Aug.1990 I took his picture and recieved a threat on my phone by the time I got home.I believe taking his picture has saved my life and members of my family that he has made threats to.It was posted on a web site Zodiac Vortex. He was named Larry Kane ( not his real name just a aka).I would like conformation that he is in fact Larry Kane,or R.Hernandez.Like in the upcoming movie the police are sitting on their hands waiting for the Zodiac to give himself up.Thanks for letting me vent.

Dear Editor, I am waiting with bated breath to see this movie, even though it it based on a book that has alot of untruths. I like Robt.Graysmith and his books very much. While this book/movie was being made the police found that the #1 suspect Art Allen was not the zodiac. Some of us have our own suspects, mine is still alive and has been seen in vallejo. After 37 yrs he still calls and stops in front of my home just to let me know he is still around.I believe he has kept his word and has changed his way of collecting slaves for his after life.He once wrote that he would no longer let the police know who and when he would kill.I will be sitting in the back row of the theater, just in case he is there at the same time as I,lol.Anyone interested in seeing my suspect can see him at the Zodiac Vortex web site.Suspects aka is Larry Kane.A known suspect by some police.
