Brimstone

I'm glad I caught this show tonight, it was an entertaining hour of supernatural drama\ adventure. I think it has potential for a good series. BRIMSTONE makes a good lead-in to MILLENNIUM, both shows deal with the dark side of humanity. I'm wondering why they picked 113 as the number of escaped souls. Wouldn't 200 be a nice round number? Anyways, let's see how this show develops.
Good show--I hope it survives

I was very impressed with BRIMSTONE's opening episode. I thought the acting was solid, and the premise is very interesting. I haven't had much exposure to Peter Horton, but he pulled off the lead pretty convincingly--and I thought John Glover as the Devil was an inspired touch. It looks different from most shows, too, what with the tinting and graininess. This feels similar to the direction MILLENNIUM (which is gone after this season, IMO) was trying to go last season--religion, demons, and mysticism; unlike MILLENNIUM, however, BRIMSTONE's producers seem to know what they want to do, rather than flounder around. It'll be interesting to see where it goes. I just hope it gains enough of an audience to stay on--its time slot isn't exactly well-known for longevity. But I'll stay with it--I'd rather have an intriguing different drama than a tired old s*itcom any day :-).

I thought Brimstone was ok. Nothing brillent. I wanted to see something truely dark or even serious, instead Brimstone was one step from a farce. I hope it improves but my guess it that it wouldn't. Rob

I was expecting another Fox dud, but was pleasantly surprised. I am not a Peter Horton fan, but he seemed to fit the role well. I also liked the supporting characters, esp. the devil. I hope it doesn'get dropped after 4 or 5 episodes.
113

They chose 113 souls because that's the number of episodes (approximately? 22 eps a season?) in 5 seasons, and it takes 5 seasons before a show can be syndicated for big bucks. I think that "Cupid" is doing a similar thing where he has to unite like 100 couples, or something. On a separate note, I met Peter Horton very briefly a few years ago. He was extremely pleasant and patient as my friends and I took pictures. I hope this show succeeds. I enjoyed watching.

Cool concept...although it could have been darker. I've read and heard it was going to make Millennium look "Happy". I THINK NOT!!! Whoever made that comment obviously doesn't watch "Millen". Because what "Millen" doesn't show you, it leaves up to your imagination!!! Which is just as scary if not more..... Well I'll get off my soapbox and just say I thought Brimstone has potential. I think they would have gone with 13 escaped souls, except that's not enough to support a series (not unless he's an extremely inept cop and keeps letting them escape every week) so they had to bump it up to 113. I agree that this is a show with great potential, I liked the fact that they did their homework instead of relying on the Coles Notes version of heaven and hell. "I'm Old Testament. You go your way, I go Yahweh." And I really like their devil, not just John Glover's performance, but the idea that he's just a guy doing his job, and he's part of the natural order. This is a lot like Millenium, with more of a focus. The bad guys are more interesting than just the serial-killer-of-the-week...im agine the potential of some of them...if they still carry hell around with them, maybe some of them still reflect their sins (you know, like a vain guy might be hideously ugly, a gluttonous guy goes around eating people to death...those aren't very good suggestions, but you get the idea.)

The show was fair, but Peter Horton was a surprize. This was no Thirtysomething. A good role for Peter, hope the writers can make some intersting stories so this show can survive.

After so many disappointments from Fox, at last they've got a show with real potential. For a pilot, this last episode was excellent, the characters are compelling, the premise works, the writing is intelligent enough not to be insulting, and the acting is good. Quite frankly, Brimstone has the new season of Millennium beat at its own game. If any Fox execs should read this: SUPPORT THIS SHOW. (Also, Peter Woodward is a really creepy guy, reminds me of a cross between Woody Harrelson's character in Natural Born Killers and Hannibal Lecter. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Crusade.)

A Good Spawn Rip Off

I enjoyed Brimstone don't get me wrong. But it seems to catch with the whole Spawn idea, about a damned soul doing the work of the devil. But I like it, the show has a lot of possibilites with the charchters, and the idea that he has to travel around to find the escaped demons. This show is going to be a good one. The show can be a hit if the producers and the writers keep it creative and with a lot of good research on religon part. -baf

I was pleasantly surprised. It has a slight resemblance to Spawn but has enough difference to be an interesting series. I hope FOX gives the show a chance to build an audience. Since they have cancelled Space Above & Beyond, The Visitor, and many other shows that had promise I am not encouraged.

When I first heard of this show I figured it would be a straight rip of Spawn/Faust (Spawn is a rip of Faust!) I really liked the show. Horton did a great job as Det. Stone (though WAY too many references to the following subject.....) This is one small thing that bugged me, but I'll let it slide for the shows first episode... This happened many times during the show (at least some variation) Somebody to Stone: "Go to Hell, jerk!" Stone: "No thanks, already been there!" It was funny the first time it happened. But after they did it again, and again, I thought it was lame. Hope they don't do this on every show. All in all...I liked Brimstone very much. Next weekend is Halloween, and I may just be late to a party in order to watch Brimstone. 7 out of 10.

I rather enjoyed Brimstine. I sort of stubbled onto it and was pleasantly surprised. I had read a TVGuide preview bit commenting how dark the show was suppose to be. I say "suppose" because it failed on that score for me at least. I was hoping for Faust (the comic), the Dark Knight (ditto) or Watchman dark. But this show didn't even reach the Dark Shadow level of darkness. I've seen MTV videos that were more disturbing. So in that way the show failed to impress me. I did enjoy the fact that the writers actually seem to have a working knowledge of the Christian faith. The "Yahweh" line was humorous. The show does rather discount the religious beliefs for the majority of humanity. It may surprise North Americans, but Christianity is *not* the dominant world religion. The afterlife *just* may not follow the Judeo-Christian storyline. Does anyone know if the writers plan to address other faiths? But the writing was entertaining, the sets were solid and I enjoyed the characters. I plan on watching future episodes. Does anyone know any special significance of the number 113 in a religious context? Thanks.

I was quite impressed with the premiere episode. The producers did an excellent job expanding on the premise. Clever comingling of religion and crime(evil)makes for interesting precepts concerning sin and restitution. The overall dark tone makes it a wonderful companion to "Millenium". Peter Horton finally has a winner on his hands. His blonde, cool good looks are a creative juxtaposition to his position as Satan's bounty hunter. John Glover was a great casting choice for "Satan". He was cool without being trite. I really hope that Fox supports it with generous publicity and time to gather a fan base. One of the few science fiction-based series to provide vivid characterizations, a strong script, and just the right amount of special effects. In many ways, it is reminiscent of the much-missed "American Gothic". Good luck Mr. Horton!

I know it is just a smallish clique watching this show, but people really should the show a try. A lot of people have gotten turned off of FOX on Fridays because Millenium can be such a horror story with rarely satisfying endings. The lead-in shows to it have floundered and passed away despite some shows' merits. Brimstone is a well-done, WELL-ROUNDED show. Lots of mystery, a little bit of mysticism, a few regrets, nuggets of humor, and always hope. Brimstone, Buddy Faro, Homicide: Life on the Street. Fridays are good again.
