Have you seen Miike's Zebraman? It's a bit more sentai than an Ultraman like kaiju, but the spirit seems simuar.

Oh man! I haven't thought about Ultraman in about 20 years! I used to absolutely love that show. =) Does anyone know if it is available on DVD?

They even said so. But I found it more amusing than a distraction. But after thinking about it, it made sense cause that sort of back door thevery fits Kuze personality. Overall i'm enjoying 2nd gig probably more than SAC. Mostly cause its stories are more personal this time around and we get to know more of the members of Section 9.

Some recent Ultraman's, Tiga specifically are already available. The first of two collections of the original TV series will be released on July 18th.

I just found the story not as convincing/believable as SAC. SAC was more crisp and subtle. 2nd is still better storytelling and animation than most animes, thou. /// Right now, I'm hooked on the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, such a quirky, dynamic, and overall extremely fun anime.
Can anyone really explain the 'Stand Alone Complex' ?

Maybe it's too deep for me, and I've tried reading various interpretations, but it seems nobody really agrees as to what exactly 'Stand Alone Complex' refers to... The best I can think of it is that it refers to the individual who wants to be apart or rebel against the commonly established net-connected-society norms in the GITS universe...

I followed that link to the "Moe Weapons Encyclopedia", and at the bottom of the page, it looks like the girl is brandishing a guitar case rocket launcher! As for "Stand Alone Complex," I think it's just a clever way of saying the "the TV show" as opposed to "the moive," since the movie came first. The TV show "stands alone" as its own "complex" and doesn't neccessarily rely on the viewer's having seen the films.

This site explains SAC: http://tinyurl.com/rzyf4 Re: Ultraman: I remember reading several different Ultraman manga when I was a kid. There were some "regular" Ultraman series that, for the most part, were similar to the TV series stories (ie monster invades earth, guy transforms into Ultraman, they fight, Ultraman wins, the end). There were also some other different manga series by a different author that took place on the Ultra-Planet/Ultra Police Force and where the stories showed more of the "human" side of the Ultramen and showed them in their daily lives. That was a great series. It's too bad I can't find them around anymore.
I get the idea of the title for SAC...

But what I'm wondering about is what it refers to on the occasions that I think they reference a person or situation being a 'stand-alone complex' within the show... That's going by the fan subs anyway. I'll be picking up the DVDs whenever they decide to release a thinpack/boxset. Those are the way to go for me...

It is a self replicating cultural phenominon, where indipendant actors appear to be working together. For example, multiple people working towards what appears to an end, but rather than being linked by a organization or conspiracy, they are acting on their own.
Ah, I see... thanks Scott

So it's where various individual cases (stand-alones) may actually have something in common that could eventually build up into a mass phenomenon (Complex case). Heh... clever...
