And posting "FIRST" in an obit is just tasteless. Honestly, do you have no decency? In any case, this is horrible news. Always loved Mr. Gleason's work. He will be missed.

You'll be missed. Diehard is a classic, and Gleason's performance helped make it so. Way back in '97 or '98, my girlfriend was an extra on the completely-forgotten-and-right fully-so Jenny McCarthy NBC sitcom - of which Gleason was a cast member (for that ep at least); she told me how she ate lunch with him in the commissary and what a nice, friendly guy he was - I mean, she went out of her way to relate how cool he was. So it's a damn shame, and he will definitely be missed by me, a fan.

He was solid. Heck, he brought it in every movie he acted in, and it's sad to see him gone. Clarence Beeks is one of cinema's greatest hatchet-men, alongside Emil Muzz (Dragnet) and Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Smokey and the Bandit).

Maybe he got it hanging out with the Janitor. Good actor, he'll be missed ... didn't we recently lose another character actor like him, the guy from My Cousin Vinny and Son-In-Law?

Loved both the Breakfast Club and Trading Places when I was a kid, his performance in both was note perfect. He'll be missed. Strangely I have neither film on hand, but I do have Die Hard, so I know what tonights feature presentation will be...

I thought it was a storke of genius to cast him as the economics teacher in VAN WILDER. He of course played the prick aspect of the role to the hilt, but if there was a ever a man who could pull off the turn into the third act, Gleason was indeed that man. What a tragic, tragic loss for all of us.

..that 'Newsradio' brought him in to play a nearly silent role, as the efficiency expert/hatchet man. Just by SEEING him, the audience was led to expect the meanest bastard this side of the grave. Until he was brought down by Phil Hartman's Master Plan. I won't ruin it for you, but the showdown between Gleason and Hartman is one of the funniest moments in a very, very funny show. Haga Daga! RIP, Mr. Gleason. You rocked.

"First" is a time honored tradtion around here,so take a pill I'm not pissing on Paul Gleasons' memory. I'm old enough to remember seeing 'Trading Places" in the theatre and laughing my ass off when Jamie Lee Curtis sticks those sweet mammories in his face and says "Could you help me with my Rucksack? Good Times. RIP.

I was watching Die Hard on Sunday night without knowing that he had died. It's the first film that my family rented on VHS when we got a VCR and my brother and I were really annoyed at my Dad for wanting to get that as opposed to some lame movie we wanted to rent. We all sat down on a Sunday night and watched Die Hard and I'll always remember the sheer delight of my Dad, Mum, brother and I watching that movie unfold. Mr. Gleason was a very large part of that: "Jesus Christ, Powell, he could be a fucking bartender for all we know!" Sad news, my condolences to his family and friends.

...we get to honor Mr. Gleason's memory. Everything he was in, he was pure gold. Johnny Be Good was, for me, an instant classic solely because of his portrayal of Coach Hisler. "Forgot them shoes, Coach!" He'll be missed.

Not one of his great roles, but Gleason first appeared on my geek radar as Long Tom, one of Doc Savage's five companions in the George Pal film. He was a great character actor and one of the top "love to hate" actors in Hollywood history.

His lines are set in stone for most of us reading this AND he re-invented swearing with those two words in Trading Places. Before that the best we could get out of Landis was Belushi's 'Holy Shith'. I doubt there's a man here who didn't admire his sharp delivery and won't miss his presence in future flicks. RIP Mr Gleason. p.s.Was he any relation to Jackie..?

Gleason's great as the blustering sheriff who'd rather stay at his desk than actually do police work. His bit at the end of the movie was hilarious. Vintage Gleason, and a fine not to go out on.

I was a little surprised when I sent you guys this piece of news yesterday that you hadn't already posted it; now I realize you were prob. waiting for Mr. Beaks to write his own eulogy. Good job. And though it's a footnote in his career, he humourously sent up his own "Breakfast Club" role a few years ago in "Not Another Teen Movie".....

He's only in one scene in the movie, but its a great one. He thinks Fred Ward is trying to cut in on his pimpin' buisness, so he goes round to his appartment and ruffs him up a little. He makes a great "Hey kids, it's Paul Gleason!" entrance, and he's wearing one of those flashy suits he raided from Barry Manilow's wardrobe. He even does the "Dont mess with the bull" horns! Great Film. Sad loss.

it's not a surprise to hear that Gleason was a nice guy in person. From what I've read, the general rule of thumb, for the most part, is that the actors who play the best villain's are usually the world's sweetest people, while the actors who always play the righteous hero are mostly inusefferable pricks in their daily lives.
Time marches on. The wheel of time turns ever onward.
