He has a bio-mechanical healing factor of some sorts. Thus leading us to believe, he will be assimilated or what not by the Brainiac collective. A "Lexiac" if you will. All I know is, him and Clark are gonna throw down. As cool as that sounds, I seriously doubt it can top last years finale. It aired the same night ROTS opened, and I gotta tell ya, I was a little shocked that I enjoyed it more than Star Wars. And it will no way, shape, or form compare to the season finale of a show, that I'm not allowed to menton. (If you watch SMALLVILLE, you know what show I'm talkin' about.) Also, in this episode, look for the Superman Returns trailer. They haven't aired it yet, and this is their last chance. (SMALLVILLE deserves the flick though.) I wouldn't be surprised if it ran against the X3 preview over at Fox at 8:30. One more thing, now that it pretty much has been picked up for next year, expect the long promised Martian Manhunter episode. There was even a hint dropped that he will be the new SMALLVILLE sherrif. "The new sherrif, is a bit green." Also, TV GUIDE speculated that Bruce Wayne could even show up in the future. But I'm calling bullshit on that one.

I still think that Smallville hit its apex with the finale (think it was a couple of seasons ago) that featured all kinds of bad things happening while Lionel slowly shaved his head in prison. Lex getting shot, Chloes house exploding, Johnathan having a heart attack... all done to a swelling score that didn't include any obligatore Warner Brothers pop artists. I remember after the episode ended thinking "Wow, now THAT'S a season finale!" Of course, now they've killed off Pa Kent, and Clark and Lana are having "Who can demonstrate less acting ability" contests on a regular basis. Meh.

What I heard, is Singer and co. wanted them to kill off Johnboy early so people wouldn't get confused. Which makes no god damn sense at all because they are two different properties. But, to further this rumor, Schnieder was said to be shocked that he was getting booted, so maybe if it wasn't for the flick he might still be working on that damn tractor. Which was totaled in the last episode when a shapeshifting Brainiac (as the late Pa Kent) attacked Clark and Lionel.

Herc, you mean that Jonathan's coming back from the dead next season? Sweet. As for Lois, I was initially against her character being added to the series, but it is definitely nice to see a regular potential love interest for Clark that doesn't have the physical structure of a junior high school girl. And unlike Lana, there's no need for a body double.

Actually Durance should be reduced to body double status, she defines "butterface". And Kristin Kreuk is a goddess. Well, at least she would be, if she ate something and went back to her natural hair color.

My bad, Shermdawg. I got my Lex-in-crisis moments mixed up. Oh, and Durance-as-Lois is by far the WORST addition to the show ever. Yep, even worse than Aquadude. She's... disturbing to look at, is strugglng to reach mediocre actress status... and exists solely to provide yet another bim to bounce off of Clark. (Oh, and every couple of episodes we get the obligatory moment where we as viewers know they have a long future together.) Bleah.

If not here, but to myself at least. Lionel is possesed by Jor-El and the voice Clark has been talking to in his fortress is really Zod. Why else use the voice of Terrance Stamp instead of a different actor. My guess is that Lex will see how Clark and Lionel are now working together against him and Lionel could possibly die at some point. Either way, Lex will take this very personally and it will finally severe any ties he and Clark share. The two will finally become the enemies they are meant to be. I can't say if Lana will make it past the end of the next season, but I would like to see her character given a chance to go away for good. I also am really am really interested to see how the writers ultimately get Lois and Clark together working in journalism. Chloe will have to be hurt once she sees Lois and Clark start to like each other, but then again, I am a little tired of love triangles on this show. True story.

When Jonathan's body couldn't take a Kryptonian possession, Brainiac wisely figured he'd have to boost Lex's body so that he could be a vessel for Zod. I thought this was obvious, especially with the episode title, but maybe I'm wrong. Gotta say, when the Kryptonian stuff is happening, this show rocks. Other times, not so much. I hope Lana continually becomes an antagonist. I actually like Durance's Lois - she provides a nice banter with Clark and a contrast to the girls who would kiss his ass. When the show started, I hated Chloe, but once she learned the secret, she became really cool and my favorite character. Now I think they've taken her too far into "Saint Chloe" territory and need to bring it back a little. And I've always hated Lana - from day one. The first interesting thing she's done is get with Lex. Sorry, Shermdawg, I know she's your wife and all, but I always thought she was unattractive and annoying and full of herself, and I didn't buy for a second that Clark would fall for her. I'm looking forward to seeing him get over it. Needless to say, Lex and Lionel are the best parts of the show, though I wished they used James Marster more, and dumbass 'freak-of-the-week' characters less.

I can't stop watching it. I expecially love how Chloe can get any information she needs by just using her computer, which seems to be legally able to hack into any other computer, server or data base in the world. She also seems to have a high up connection at every agency or office she needs info from, and they have no problem handing over secret classified information to a college freshman. Also, I'd like to fuck Lois, tittyfuck Chloe and marry Lana.

Wasn't Lionel Luther also possessed by Jor-El?
by Drath
May 11th, 2006
04:43:55 PM
How could Jon Kent have died because he'd been possessed by a Jor-El when the same happened to Lionel and he's never been ill? Oh never mind, this whole thing has gotten too convoluted for its own premise. They'd have been better off turning the show into METROPOLIS after the first 3 seasons because you really should not spend this much time in Smallville (or if you do, start with a younger Clark and don't turn the place into Sunnydale). Even the Superboy show from the '90s went on too long, he looked like he was 30 by the end and yet still they called him "boy." It's too bad they can't do what the animated Superman did in it's pilot by showing the last days of Krypton. I watched that recently and thought it would have been a great way to end a series about young Clark by having him witness that story and finally know where he came from (althouh then he'd just be a passive player, and that's kind of a storytelling no-no). Sorry, I've been down on this series for a long time, and to be fair it's still a better show than Lois and Clark, but I also still think the concept could have been done better. The way it's played now there is just no way for any of the main characters to NOT know that Clark is Superman. The topsy turvy shit they've pulled with the Lana character alone is symptomatic of the show's problems. My god, they've had Lana and Clark break up with the same fucking scene like five times now! And each time they act like this is the first time, like they didn't just do this five months ago! I think they've contrived too much to keep the status quo going, and it's a shame.

I like how Lex and Lana are together, and they need to have her die for the future, so that even in Metropolis, Lex would still hate Clark, and vice versa. The tricky thing is somehow having Lex go through yet another brainwashing scheme, so that even in the future (since most Superman versions are all 30 when he takes the cape), that Lex does not realize that Clark is Superman, since basically know he knows something is up with him. Anyway, I really like the show, and yes it does get hokey and have some lameass episodes, but I blame that on the fact that it is on the WB, and they have to cater to all those damn teenagers. I do think the show would have had a much bigger following if it had been on Sci-Fi, or HBO, so that it could have been a little more mature (wink wink, nudge nudge) in some areas. Then again, I just could be crazy.

Definitely not perfect either, that's for sure. Plot holes you can drive a chevy in, but it's escapism. And please, no more movie rip off, even the hacks writing Charmed gave that up, and that the most poorly written show ever made. However I'm sure we'd enjoy this show a lot more if it aired like "24", in a five month run, instead of being broken up in the middle with multiple reruns and even a one month break after the broken "sweeps" concept of US TV. Smallville is definitely something that will be better appreciated when watched on DVD.

This makes absoultely no sense. Why the fuck would the entire United States go into a riot seemingly minutes after the power went out? Not only rioting but randomly attacking shit. Here we go, let's hit this car with a baseball bat? Why? Because the lights are out! It makes absoultely no fucking sense. And way to jump to conclusions Lana. "Clark said he was going to kill you." Why don't you fucking ask why, you stupid bitch? You think Clark just randomly kills people? Honestly, how many times has he come in and saved your sorry ass, so don't give me this bullshit. Yeah, there have been a few times where he's freaked out, but who doesn't have their bad days? And could someone explain to me WHAT THE FUCKING DEAL WAS WITH THAT DAGGER? So is Jor-El actually Zod? And what's the purpose of Fine killing Lois and Martha? Why go out of your way other than to just give those characters something to do? And the biggest question of all...why did Clark jump into the Phantom Zone? God, this pisses me off. After the brilliance of the beginning of the season, they have degenerated into inane bullshit. Of course, give it two episodes next season and everything will be back to normal, because GOD FORBID there's actually a long story arc.

why am i still watching this show!? UGH! its sooo frusterating. They have too many filler episodes, thats how you get this extra crammed in season finale! Seriously, it felt rushed like they squeezed 3 episodes worth of info into one! and they gave me the feeling that all the characters were doing things out of character! So not only does Lex now know about Clark's powers, but they also founght for god sakes, what kind of convenient excuse are they gunna come up with this time to cover up that little piece o knowledge!? Did anyone catch a couple of episodes ago when Clark tossed Lex across the room and he got up and said right away "Clark your hypnotised! thats how you have that strength", i literally rolled my eyes, and it was weird because i was alone in the room- THAT is how ridiculous that line was! I love Chloe, and i love seeing her get what she wants once in a while and in this case she wanted to and got to kiss Clark. OK i am far from a giggly little school girl, but Chole sacrifices her feelings for Clark all the time, its time she got a little something for her toruble. I hate Lana, Lana needs to die. At the end, when Zod is on the roof (why is Zod on the roof? Youd think this guy had better things to do)- i wanted Lana to have her little speech and then Zod would look at her and ask "who the hell are you?" and then casually snap her neck. That would have made sense, what he does however doesnt. He grabs Lana and kisses her? I thought Lex was "dead" Zod, what the fuckk are you doing? You better than all this crap and you have a whole world out there that isnt gunna destory itself (maybe it will thanks to the virus)- Looks like Zod is thinking with the wrong head ;) What is the deal with Fien and Clark's mom and Lois on the plane? is it even necessary to kill them? what does that accompliosh? can anyone even save them? this doesnt make any sense! Why is it that Clark spent 5 seasons not trusting Jo-rel and now it seems like he is willing to (almost ) kill for him? I bet it was johnathan always getting in the way, we can all thank him for stopping Superman's natural growth! UGH! i hate this show.... cya all next season! :)

Everyone get the coy reference to "Milton Fine"'s true name? The Brain InterActive Construct. Thought that was a bit clever. I'm intrigued by this idea that the Stamp Jor-El has always been Zod. Certainly the episode supports it. Clark stabs BrainIAC ('natch) with the knife and Zod erupts from the crystal control panel in the Fortress. He could've come from anywhere else but he came from the crystal control panel. Sure as hell makes sense that it was Zod talking to him all along.

My only frustration with Smallville this season when they've had their mythology-heavy episodes is that they haven't been able to use any of John Williams' Superman score in them. Barred most likely because of this summer's movie, it would've been exciting to hear the score infused in the episodes the way we heard it during Rosetta and at the tail end of season 2. Tonight, it sounded like they were trying to do some riffs on the music but couldn't use it full-on. Would've added a nice touch tonight if they could've.

It's sort of possible because of his obsession with trying to get him to join him and whatnot, but Jor-El had some many chances to fuck some shit up, it just wouldn't make sense for it to happen. Respectable ending, and Lois is hot, she's got some fantastic titties.

This show is an exercise in mediocrity and Tom Welling is the poster-boy for all that is androgynous. The real Superman would've already grabbed Lois and introduced her kneecaps to her earlobes while banging the hell out of that poonani instead of moping around every episode like some refugee from Dawson Creek.

Its not a clever homage to his tights...its fucking stupid! everyone here is exactly right..so much shit happens on this show and we are never given an explanation why...why the fuck did stabbing fine release zod. why the fuck does zod give a flying fuck about lana, he should have snapped her god dammned neck...Lana is a useless character...so is Lois..they just sit there and take up space! Why did Clark jump into the phantom zone...constant plot holes and gaps in logic. I agree...that random riot is fucking stupid what the hell was chloe doing there anyway? she is way smarter than that ..there is no way she would have waded into that....Stay at the planet...no one is going to loot a newspaper office..Seriously, the only fucking good thing about this ep is that Chloe finally took what she wanted after all this time.

Kill Lois, F Chloe, Marry Lana. I know she's a passive aggressive whore, and those pig-nostrils when she smiles are annoying, but still... damn. Oh, and why feed Clark the bullshit story about him having to kill Lexiac? Why make Clark go through a crisis of conscience, if all he needed to do was fling the dagger into Miltiac? Since Brainiac is not a living being, Clark would've shanked him in 2 seconds without a second thought. OOPS, i'm not supposed to think, i forgot. Fun episode nonetheless, it shouldv'e been two hours to make up for the "Lana Vampire" episode.

RIOTS: Didn't all of the computers/tv screens have the kryptonian code on them before the power went off? If I saw that crap on every channel, I'd probably go nuts too. The riots weren't as far fetched as you believe. LEX KNOWING CLARKS SECRET: He doesn't, Zod had taken over when he fought Clark. And regarding baldy meeting "monkey face" on the rooftop, leads one to believe that he can access Lex's memories. Also, he probably wanted some action, given all that time in the Phantom Zone. :P CLARKS WARDROBE: Yes it is ridiculous at times, but its no more ridiculous than the Dukes, Debra always wearing red on Everybody Loves Raymond, *cough* Firefly *cough*. I mean, we always knew the Kent's had financial problems, maybe Clark couldn't afford new clothes. CHLOE BEING MADE TO BE A CHARACTER LIKE CHLOE FROM 24: Sorry, but Miss Sullivan did that type of shit before O'brien was even thought of. MARTHA AND LOIS: I doubt Fine was trying to kill them. Most likely he was just knockin' them out. Martha is far to valuable to Clark and Lionel (Who may have info in that head of his that Zod/Brainiac want.).

Well, I don't think it was directed very well, but Clark was sucked into the Zone - I believe Fine was taking Lois and Martha to the Fortress as a contingency if Clark didn't follow through - threaten to snap their necks if they didn't release Zod - I agree this ep would have played better with more time to build up riots - the virus should be causing cars to seize up (perhaps why the driver-less car smashed into the Planet?), caused planes to fall from the sky, elevators to jam, etc etc etc - add that kind of mayhem on to panicking citizens and I can see riots - but only if the skies were filled with black ships - now that would be a cool image... Lex-Zod kissing Lana? I thought he was going to toss her off the roof - final shot of her screaming as she heads for a sharpened section of rebar... It may not be in the continuity, but Lana should die and Chloe remain as Superman's boyhood friend... Was anyone else hoping Lex would open his mouth and Terence Stamp's voice would issue forth? Guess they are holding out until final season - I still say Jor-el would not act this way because they established his character as being like Clark's in the drifter episode where Clark flashbacked to the 50's, met his grandfather, etc etc etc.
Oh, I forgot my biggest gripe of the show.

This show was pretty good the first 2 or 3 seasons. But it just keeps getting worse. Tonight's finale...not a bad story idea, all things considered. But, again, badly executed by the producers/writers. That seems to be the problem: They have some genuinely interesting ideas that do some cool stuff with the Superman mythology...but just don't seem to deliver on the potential the ideas often have. And Marsters is wasted. The man owned Buffy/Angel at times...and here...just another kryto-villain. Aargh!

I'm sure the average IQ of fans of this show is about 88...and the average age has got to be 12. I probably would have enjoyed it when I was that age. Too bad they couldn't make a quality show that appealed to all ages and intellects. Oh well, it is a money machine and that's all they care about or are capable of.

I remember reading somewhere that the showrunners deliberately put Clark in the red jacket and blue t-shirt to highlight the scenes involving his powers. It's an artistic visual thing and not nearly as annoying to those of us who read about Clark in his red, yellow and blue longjohns on a monthly basis. And yeah, I think Clark was pulled into the Phantom Zone against his will instead of going voluntarily. Remember, he doesn't fly off unless he's under the influence of Red Kryptonite or some other deus ex machina.

Actually, I'm on Mattw's side on that one. If you were brought up in an english speaking environment, there is ZERO EXCUSE for not being able to spell or construct a sentence properly. It should be intuitive by now, like breathing. I mean, if you can't even get a firm grasp on your own native tongue, you're basically kind of retarded, and the world is going to view you that way. "he will act like an intelligent 12 and correct your language" - doesn't make sense. What is an 'intelligent 12'? - - - - - "This is all at this point it time people." Again, doesn't make sense, my dog has better grammar.

That the official WB description doesn't match what happened in the show. Virus!? Braniac demanding Clark unleash Zod in exchange for the antidote!? Wha? Did they change that because of bird flu scare? I dunno. I'm a very big fan of the show but I was very disappointed by this finale. It just made no sense and all the characters behaved generally erratically. I would have much preferred Zod in his own body instead of a superpowered Lex. Ah well, anything is still better than the witch subplot last season.

I really loved the three episodes leading up to this one and even this one wasn't that bad. The riots were indeed stupid. And I am dreading the inevitable, "Clark, I don't remember a thing," speech from Lex. In fact there wasn't that much good to say about the ep. But since the last talkback, I gotta say that I am much happier having Lana as Lex's girlfriend (but unhappy she's not mine:). I'm liking Lionel in the mix, but he was better as a Thundercat. We should also get to see Zod fly. He shouldn't be bound by the same childish limitations as Clark. ......... I'd also be really pissed if it's true that Johnny Boy Kent was given the boot because of the movie. From what I understand, this movie is just a remake of the second or something. Hollywood, get this straight, I will never go to another sequel, remake, converted "funny" TV show movie again. ('Cept X-Men, I mean come on!) That's why your ticket sales are down. I couldn't give a rats ass about a Posiden update or a superman clone. Do something new once in a while. They SHOULD completely throw the continuity out the window for this show as well. Take a freakin' chance for Christ's sake!

...It would explain away a lot of what happened last night. Zod watching the destruction is interesting to me. I mean, he's allegedly responsible for the destruction of Krypton, yet Fine started the computer virus. Sooooo why is Zod released? What is he going to do once Earth is destroyed? In the movie he wanted to rule the world, what exactly is his goal here? This whole episode seemed like Clark having was having a bad dream. Literally, Clark will wake up next season and it's Dallas and Bobby Ewing all over again. A dream would explain the erratic behavior of the characters, the car crash sans driver, the sudden riot for no reason, Martha and Lois's situation, and Clark in the Phantom Zone, but would be sorely disappointing. That crashing sound is Creativity going out the window. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that was why everything was so rushed. I would appreciate an original idea. Here's hoping...

Voodoo, GREAT point. Enough already with the red and blue. It's not clever. Plus, when Superman exists in the future, wouldn't people just think, "Hey that guy with super powers who saves people and wears red and blue all the time reminds me of Clark Kent from Smallville who had superpowers, saved people and wore red and blue all the time."

mattw - that's something I've been saying since the show started, even tho' I'm a fan - just how is Clark supposed to adopt even the (admittedly) weak disguise of glasses and slicked back hair of adult Clark now? Unless Will Smith comes in as a MIB and does a brain-wipe on everyone in Smallville... Knowing this show, Clark will be shown a new type of kryptonite (purple? silver? magenta?) that will wipe out all memories of anything kryptonian but one time only - "Use it wisely, son" says Lionel, channeling Jor-el or his brother Zor-el or maybe the talking dog Mongr-el... And yes, I agree with others Lana needs to go - maybe go full-blown (pun intended) evil - then killed, dying in Clark's arms as she apologizes for being such a moody bitch - then Clark could leave her lifeless body and move on with Chloe and/or Lois...

I do read the comics every month. The red and blue started as a nod to the audience that Clark was indeed going to be Superman. It's not just an artistic thing to signal his power use because he wears red and blue in every damn scene. My roommate who doesn't normally watch the show or care about Superman has walked by the tv and said "dude, Clark needs to get some new clothes." It was clever and cheeky for about two episodes but now its just dumb.

No, that's what I'm talking about. That wasn't Williams' score. It was a cheap imitation. They haven't used any of Williams' score since Season 2, most likely because the film division called dibs on it and the still wanted to maintain some measure of distance between Smallville and Superman Returns. I think that's kind of ridiculous since most people are smart enough to know that the two projects are related - in only that they are based on the DC Comics character and that they borrow from the Donner film - BUT they tell two separate stories that exist in separate universes of their own. That wasn't Williams' music, though.

Showing my geek pedigree here, but somebody mentioned never seeing or reading that Zod destroyed Krypton. Not true! An alternate universe had Supes from the 'main' universe wandering onto a Krypton where Zod and his two lackeys had murdered everyone on the planet. To prevent them from voyaging to Earth and doing the same thing, Superman violated his most sacred rule and killed them.
