Yes. It does matter. Because it means Alias can be sold into syndication, which will generate a new audience who will eventually buy the DVDs and make a film possible. Matchpoint (and not the mediocre film.)

How can the episode with Will coming back (and pretending to be a rock star with Sydney) be considered a letdown? They finally did the nasty! Sydney was reminded what real friends are like. I think it was a great episode. Maybe it's just because I want to do the nasty with Will Tippen.

Oh, sure...There was a red Giant Hurt Ball thing that turned some Russkies into pseudo-zombies, but on the whole, ALIAS is an espionage genre series that occasionally dabbles in sci-fi. You know, like how Jack Bauer can go for hours and hours on 24 without sleeping or going to the bathroom.

yes. Goddard wrote (and cowrote) some of the best buffy and angel episodes. ever. the most disappointing thing about Alias season 4 was that even Goddard wasn't able to rescue it. Season 5 has been better. here's hoping they can go out on a high note.

"How does it feel to be on the Lam"? Gotta love the Alterna-Prom. Amazing, heartbreaking episode. And if you need your Buffy connection, Charisma Carpenter is still bringin' the bitch! And Herc, Gia definitely looked a bit closer to hot this week. Still too skinny, though.

Are you kidding Herc? Will's episode in season 3 was THE highlight in that abysmal season. If you don't recall, they infiltrated a hotel, Will kicked ass and they boned. It was good stuff! Thank God this show is going out on top. I truly believe that seasons 1 and 2 are some of the best TV ever filmed and after the bad season 3 and BEYOND WRETCHED season 4, it's nice to get back to that good ol' show JJ Abrams started (and abandoned).

And knows how to refer to the continuity that a show has established in a subtle way, and I'll be the first to admit that his Lost episode last year was fairly average, but he can definitely write. Being given this position (100th) episode, as well as co-writing the finale, is certainly a lot of responsibility. I also fall into the boat of LOVING Seasons 1 and 2, liking season 3, and hating season 4 (although Goddard's "Welcome to Liberty Village" was a fun, albeit Mr. and Mrs. Smith-like, episode). Glad to see they may be ending with a certain level of dignity.

Drew Goddard is a fine writer!?! Art thou mad!?! We should all bow down before the power that be THE MAN GODDARD,for he is the chosen one who shall restore order to the once promising universe that JJ Abrams so foolishly abandoned to cater to the superficial whims of Tom Cruise (the destroyer of Mission Impossible) and then attempt a mis-guided resuscitation of that dead and bloated corpse called Star Trek.
not even Joss Whedon could save Alias now.

To me, Welcome to Liberty Village was a bit of a rip off of the X-Files episode, Arcadia. But Drew's a consistently good writer which might be better than being an ocassionally brilliant writer.

Whoa, who wrote this?! So many "groaner" lines (i lost count of how many lines of dialogue that made me cringe). Will: "I speak for everyone...when I say, 'Thanks for watching over us'" Yuck! How can you write that on a paper and turn it in? Also, Bradley Cooper seems to have forgotten how to play Will, he seemed closer to the cocky asshole from Wedding Crashers tonight. Maybe Syd didn't know all along that he was alive. Maybe she found out somewhere along the way that he was still alive, and they just didn't feel like showing us what was going on. I think that killing Vaughn was the kiss of death for this show. The biggest relationship on the show was Sydney-Vaughn and they completely destroyed it. I loved the reintroduction of Rambaldi tonight, and Project Helix is a nice way to make the prophecy real while sidestepping the fact that it's ACTUALLY Sydney, since the prophecy doesn't state that "Her name is Sydney Bristow."

I see where you're coming from on that groaner line, but tonight's episode was supposed to be a goodbye Sydney Bristow type thing. So I can accept the groaner line since it's so near the end of the series. If this was like season 1 or 2 when he was saying something like this, then I'd be a little more critical. But given the context, I'll buy it.

Just in that this was Drew's episode and also SMG played both Buffy and sometimes the First in the final season (and looked like she was having considerably more fun as the First). But of course this will work differently on Alias, as presumably people will be mistaking Espinosa for Sydney which couldn't have happened on Buffy.

How many guys would be giving THAT to their wives and girlfriends for Valentine's Day? This would have been a good episode, but the DNA chamber killed it for me. I think this show jumped the shark at the end of season 2 when they first mentioned "DNA". This technology is so far-fetched it doesn't seem to fit into the Alias world. They might as well be beaming around with transporters and shooting the badguys with phasers set to stun. The show should have ended with that post-SuperBowl episode the Herc so famously creamed over.

12:42:13 AM
...I have watched it this far, and 4 more hours won't kill me. But I gotta say that after watching shows like 24 and BSG, the writing on these final few shows is just so terrible. It seems like everyone in the cast and crew is counting the minutes until they are FREE of this tripe. Sydney is kidnapped, tortured, escapes, her father says go home and pack a bag we are gonna send you somewhere safe. So they drop her off ALONE at her apartment, where she finds her FRICKIN MOTHER waiting inside, and she is so STUPID that she doesn't see a connection. Jack doesn't see a connection. They are going to retrieve the "horizon" and she is hours from labor, but she says "don't be silly, I'll be okay" bullshit. And tonight we had to sit thru an endless walk in the park with her saying Its my fault, Will saying No its not. You save the world every day. gush gush tripe tripe. And they get dna samples by showering her in a boxcar?! wtf? when blondie says "you guys actually believe this stuff" the rest of them didn't have to ACT embarrassed.... and we in the audience have also seen things that are hard to explain. And Garner lets Vaughn back in the show, but keeps him off in Bhutan... she really don't want her old flame nearby... Ben Garner would have a hissy fit

I'm not so sure about the 100 episode thing any more. Alias has already been in syndication. They've shown it on TNT, but I've also seen it on a local station in the middle of the night. Working at a TV station, I also saw the syndicated version coming down on the satellite one day. As for cancelling early, that was a good thing. That gave TPTB time to wrap things up and start to give us answers. If they didn't cancel early, they probably would have kept on with the same crapp from the last season or two, then no proper ending.

05:42:42 AM
Okay, you can't bitch about the evil twin thing. Given the prophesey it had to happen. I've been waiting since season one. It has to be the girl in the picture but they took steps to make sure it couldn't be Syd (she had to go look at some damn mountain the prophesey said "the one" never saw). Well... I would have no problem expect for one massive goof. Didn't they spend ALL of last season on a plot about "the one" being Syd's sister Nadia and not Syd? And then the finale of last season was supposedly the payoff of the prophesey quoted tonight. So, given the whole "seeing the mountains" crap and that everyone thinks Syd's sister is prophesey girl, how did everyone get back to thinking it's Syd? I know they wanted to keep the Rambaldi backstory short but the Nadia stuff is a big contradiction to skip over. Can't even pretend it didn't happen since what is happening with Nadia this season comes out of that plot. It wouldn't even take a lot to fix it. The new girl asks about the prophesey, then someone goes, "We thought it was Syd but then it seemed to be about her sister... who knows at this point. It all gets so confusing." Cheap and crappy but it would have been something.
I Don't Give A Shit--Where is LOST?!

08:41:24 AM
Dude, last week Lost was ... er ... lost to a 2 hour Alias and this week it was a fucking recap show. A RECAP SHOW IN THE MIDDLE OF SEASON 2!!! They did that X-Files trick of putting a subtitle that's never been there before underneath the title screen (like how the X-files would replace "The Truth Is Out There" with some crap that makes you jiz your pants cuz you know you're about to watch something special.) Also, they had a fucking narrator, who I think was Zeek or Zed or whoever from the Others gang. So I was all set for the big special episode when lo and behold it's a fucking hour-long recap. But I thought it would be all good as long as at the end, the narrator made it clear that this was part of a TV special (a la Truman Show) or a corporate tape for whoever is keeping them hostage. BUT NOOOO-OOOOO! Just a lame fucking non-episode that sure as shit better not show up on DVD. They'd better replace it with a ...uh...what's the word? Right. LOST EPISODE. Why did they do this? Why? To gain a larger viewership? Fuck that! I want them to have LESS VIEWERS. That way they'll end it in a season or two with a full story arc instead of creating more and more seasons of nonsense for advertising revenue. Just this once I'd like to see art win over commerce.

Anybody confirm what I thought I heard last night? The music score when Sydney was on the roof (I think it started as a sample of some other song and then morphed into..) was the Doors "Riders on the Storm", or maybe the sampling at the beginning was the Doors, I can't recall. All you guys jizzing over the Buffy writer, I think he let you down tonight. First of all, what's up with Syd knowing Vaughns alive! You don't just gloss over a HUGE reveal like that! You don't want us to know the details, fine. But you have to implicitly set up the situation to the audience. I know for a fact there were people who didn't even catch that tiny little bit of exposition. And another evil twin? Come on. I thought they said that the only guy in the world who had the technology died after he made the first two, so how can they just non-chalantly go and do it again without explaining how? Bah, I'm ready to watch the last 4 hours of this thing and get it over with. Anyone want to buy seasons 1-3 on DVD cheap?

I think they will show a flashback to the episode with Vaughn in the hospital after being shot. If I remember correctly, Syd hands Vaughn a cup and says drink this when you are ready and then he flatlines shortly after. I had been watching after that to see if Syd ever said anything like "since Vaughn died" to her father in private. When the two were alone it was a more generic "I miss him" or "I wish he was here" (or similar)... I loved last weeks eps; but it seems like they are just trying to do foreighn accents whenever possible just for the heck of it.

ALIAS was once the greatest show on tv. It is now unwatchable. Here we go again. Let's double a main character! Let's mention page 47! Let's bring someone back from the dead! Woo hoo, Goddard, that's original? For those of you who actually appreciated ALIAS when it was great (the first 2 1/2 seasons), did you notice that page 47 now has a different drawing of Sydney? How RIDICULOUS is that? What, they couldn't find the original prop? ALIAS and all its god-awful writers suck, and J.J. sucks for abandoning the best show on tv 2 1/2 years ago.
