Could've fooled me. Yeah, I know that's a troll-ish set-up to a post, but I really don't understand why this movie is so revered. Actually, I think I do, but instead of being a cynical bastard, I'd prefer it if somebody actually explained to me what they thought was so funny about it.
It's the type of movie that gets funnier every time.

It's like Anchorman (at least, for me): watch it the first time and it's mildly amusing. Watch it the second time and it's hilarious. Watch it the third time (while drunk) and it is the funniest freakin' thing you've ever seen. And from then on out it's a classic. What did I actually think was funny about it? Jay Chandrasekhar's line readings ("Mother of God...") Stupid humor ("I'm gonna pistol-whip the next one of you that says 'shennanigans'" -- "Hey Farva, what's that restaurant you like to go to with all the shit on the walls?" -- "Oh, you mean Shennanigans?" -- "Oohhhh!!!!!") Hilarious lines ("The snozzberries taste like snozzberries!") Visual humor ("Oh. Bikers. I'm an idiot.") Brian Cox getting drunk off his ass ("I'mmmm NAAKKEEEDD!!") and, above all, through the entire movie, a genuine affection for its characters. Honestly. Although if that doesn't do it for you, you might want to try watching it high; I've heard that works too.
Yes, Troopers is funny. And so is Club Dread, natch.

I think it's a bit hard to explain the drawing factor of Broken Lizard movies, and I absolutely understand those who don't get it (I didn't the first time either) but I chalk it up to the chummy energy the group has while telling ridiculous clothesline stories. Usually I'd be picking on people making movies for themselves, but for them, it just seems so friendly and fuck-all to those who don't giggle at Chandrasekhar spewing the words "Piccadilly whore!" in his horrible British accent, which he compares to a high school production of a Wilde play.
And yes, being high dddddefinitely helps BL films.

I wish I still had the tape from when they did a group interview for Dread at Fox back in 2004. Great guys. I think CHUD has the full transcript, as I was right next to the journalist and he had a simple but oddly ingenious way of telling them apart on audiotape.
Except for Farva, of course

I assume when you're referring to affection for it's characters you are leaving "Farva" out of the discussion, because he was basically shat on from frame one of the movie. The only thing approaching intentional pathos for his character was when he got to bust the party at the end. Because, you know, even underdogs need someone to look down on.

I was at the UK premiere of Dukes of Hazzard last year in Picadilly Circus, drunk as a chimp. I hurled obscenities at all the "celebrities" in attendance, with the exception being Jay Chandrasekhar. I was mildly amused by Super Troopers, and the rest of that Broken Lizard shit sucks, but he directed a bunch (all?) of Arrested Development episodes, so he got spared my drunken wrath. Plus he has the same last name as a really cool atrophysicist. And also I didn't yell at Johnny Knoxville, whom I can't help but be charmed by. Anyway, this movie sounds stupid.

Is it like their...brand, or something? Their company? And they've got a....whats the word? Supercilious. A supercilious monkey with holding a banana in a suggestive way. I dont know. Whatever. That shit just annoys me. Just....be credited for your work. Do you really have to craft a LOGO for you and your drunk frat friends? Eghhh.

I loved Supertroopers. I opening sequence where Jay torments those stoners, "Slow Down!" "I am going slow!". Hilarious. Makes the poor lad freak out and eat a bag of grass. Also starred Brian Cox and Colonel Spangler from malcolm in the middle. Also had Taliban anti-American cartoons, and German porn fans "Who wants a mustache tickle?" "I do, I do". Classy. Club Dread was pretty cool too. Bill Paxton rocks.

Supercilious means "haughty" or "showing disdain" so I have no clue what you were actually looking for. As for the logo... Come off it cowboy. Every production company has a logo- and Broken Lizard, rag tag though it may be, is a production company (it just also happens to be a comedy troupe as well). If you don't like it... fine. But your sad excuse for something to nitpick is weak as fuck.

I think it tastes pretty sweet. Although I wasn't a big fan of Club Dread. I really really dug Super Troopers, and had they released Club Dread prior to Super Troopers I might've expected a little less and then liked it a bit more. I don't throw Dukes of Hazard in with the others since that wasn't a Broken Lizard film, it was just directed by Chandrasekkar. I believe Jay also wrote and directed a few episodes of Arrested Development during the 1st season. I might be wrong though.

I actually like Club Dread better than Super Troopers. Maybe because I saw it first. I dunno. Jordan Ladd's boobs. The Pac-Man hedgemaze game. "Piss on that... I'm taking the Mah-sha-tay" Peen-a-lope. MC Gainey knowing how to shit back. Sea Shanties and Wet Panties. All that. Yeah.

Club Dread

gets better every time I see it. While not as funny or gag-oriented as Super Troopers, to me it's the better movie. For all it's glory, Troopers feels like a schitck-laden collection of skits, while Club Dread is a cohesive whole. And there's shit in Club Dread (like anytime Chandrasekhar speaks with that accent - "You've manacled me to my bloody deathbed you Picadilly whore!") that cracks me up each and every time I see it. It had a long run on cable and I've seen it a bunch of times now in pieces or entirely and it just flat out works for me. So does Jordan Ladd.
I find Broken Lizard films to be largely overrated

I saw Super Troopers before it became the "it" thing to do among film geeks and it was nothing special apart from the first 10-15 minutes. The rest of that movie is just lame typical comedy. I saw Puddle Cruiser back in the day as well and that was better because it had a believable plot and was actually fun to watch.

Supercilious works there, and besides that, it was a Seinfeld reference. "Why didn't they say hi to me? Elaine, I understand. She's very.....what's the word? Supercilious." And furthermore, blah blah blah. That shit annoys me, so I mentioned it. I don't care if you think it doesn't make the cut of stuff that is okay to nitpick about. That's the best part about being a griping prick, you can nitpick about EVERYTHING! And normally I wouldn't have even cared to mention it, but I was still high on drugs when I got home last night so I just wanted to share my opinions on stuff. I rarely post here to begin with. Ok, bye!

Difference is, Broken Lizard isn't a sketch comedy troupe, at least not anymore. I agree 111 % that they aren't as funny as UCB, Kids or Stella - but with the exception of Stella's Wet Hot American Summer, the Broken Lizard movies so far have been funnier than KITH's Brain Candy and UCB's Martin & Orloff. Still waiting for that Strangers with Candy movie, though.

It's one of those flicks you have to experience at 2 in the morning while you are drunk and or high... only then can you truly appreciate the comic genius of Super Troopers. Seriously I had to watch it like 3 or 4 times before it really started to grow on me. Now its one of my favorite comedies.

If you don't find Super Troopers funny then quit your bitching. A lot of people GET this type of humor, and if you don't, go watch your "dick and fart" joke Austin Powers or Scary Movies. If you watch the movie a few times you find out that Farva is one of the funniest ones.

I', just not excited about any of this, I gave super troopers a chance... or two.... and it worked!.. the first time I thought it was average.. the second time, I picked up more of the humour of it and now I think it's a classic..... the same can't be said for Club Dread though... Interesting that we get this news, and yet I see no story on Thomas Hayden Church confirming the involvment of Venom in the next Spiderman movie... http://movies.msn.com/movies/h itlist/4-11-06
