Gollum's f-bomb riddled acceptance speech at the MTV movie awards (2003?) was ten times funnier...nice to see, though, that Jackson still has enough of a sense of play about him to take the time to put this together. Loved the shot of Kong pushing the boat; I can't think of any other way they could have transported him back. But then, I couldn't figure out how Indy was able to hold his breath underwater while hanging on to a Nazi submarine either; so there ya go! Hope there's a little more comedy footage on the upcoming Kong dvd!

Where are the blooper reels from Star Wars? From Jaws? From Raiders of the Lost Ark? From Alien? From even James Cameron's silly movies? You know what I associate blooper reels with ... really bad, failing sitcoms on television, so unfunny they have to insert some propaganda at the end of their shows during the credits, to convince everyone that their show is really hilarious. And the point I was making about Star Wars and other movies that don't have blooper reels ... those movies had directors who cared about their final product, cared about the final product being taken seriously by the audience. That Jackson can so blithely let his mind get distracted by bullshit goofiness like this is the reason that Kong was such a failure as an adventure movie, as a monster movie. As Jackson half-admitted in Rolling Stone when he said he wanted to make this film before he got too old and cynical ... well, it was too late, wasn't it. Only a cynical fucker would think a blooper reel of his actors saying "fuck" would make people love the movie more. What the movie needed was a director who hadn't already become a jaded, cynical Fuckhead himself, one who could only make bad jokes about Kong, not really try to make the audience believe in Kong. The jokey footage at the end of the clip, with Kong pushing the boat ... it just emphasizes the stupidity of Jackson. He can't even get this cinematic joke right, give it the effort necessary to make it look a little convincing. You can see that Kong's movements indicate that he's actually connecting with solid ground, while the boat is obviously steaming along in deeper water, otherwise it's keel would be stuck on the ground Kong is pushing against. If you argue that Kong is swimming, paddling with his legs, then he seems to be using SpiderStick powers to hold on to the back of the boat. In other words, the "joke" indicates what was wrong with the film, that it's director didn't really care about true audience involvement .... he'd probably have put more actual jokes like that blooper scene in the movie if he thought he could get away with it. Oh, and loves and kisses to DocPazuzu.

Shoot, no one ever requests ME. Ah, what the hell: I'm too busy watching Scrubs reruns anyway. It's not that I'm a Jackson devotee or anything, but I very much enjoyed the LOTR series; and I thought Kong was pretty terrific as well. I can see someone getting bent out of shape about Cronenberg's History of Violence, now, which has interesting things to say on America's favorite subjects of violence AND sex...and it meant to be taken extremely seriously. It just tickles me when ANYBODY attaches so much depth to something that is meant as lighthearted escapist entertainment...though I admit, it's not as ticklish as one of Dr. Cox's monologues or Elliot's high-pitched vocal inflections.
