The Borg were good for 3 episodes
by I Dunno
Mar 7th, 2006
11:56:15 AM
The one where they first meet them and the two parter where Picard got assimilated. From then on they systematically made the Borg unscary and lame. The movie broke the rules by giving them a Queen with an individual mind. Then Voyager completly ripped the nuts off them and made them a joke.
Voyager didn't just make them a joke
by Big Jim

it all but invalidated the first episode with Q and the sub-plot of First Contact where the Borg try to contact themselves in the past. Voyager claims humans already knew of the Borg before Picard ever met them and 7's parents even went looking for them. And 7 even makes a comment regarding the Borg's activities in First Contact. If mankind knew of the Borg before Q introduced them, you can bet the Borg would have been aware of them. And they were a lot lamer on Voyager. When the crew of the Enterprise boarded a Cube it was tense because there was a sense they were in danger. Voyager's crew would jump on and off Borg ships like they were going on a picnic.
I don't really see this as a way for Paramount

to soak the fans (although I am sure it is part of it). I am not willing to shell-out the big bucks for full seasons or full series sets (even at these so-called "reduced prices"). These new DVDs contain many of my favourite episodes. These are the ones I want to watch over and over again. So I can get many of my favourite episodes without having to buy several seasons of several series.

Best Q Episode ever: "Tapestry"

and it doesn't seem to be on these discs. I may have to ammend my previous comments. All Good Things (both parts) are on the Q set and on the Time Travel Set. Q Who? appears in the Borg set and in the Q set. And due to this they leave out one of the best episodes ever? I hadn't looked too closely at what was on the sets and had not noticed the duplications. Shit, they are soaking the fans after all. Paramount fuckers.

Why are the Star Trek sets so expensive?
by googamooga
Mar 7th, 2006
01:01:09 PM
I'm not that big of a Star Trek fan, so I'll never be purchasing them, so it doesn't really matter to me, but DAMN! Why do they cost so much? The only shows I've ever purchased on dvd, were Buffy and Angel (both better shows than any series of Star Trek, IMO) and even when new, those sets were never over $50, and are much cheaper now. What gives? Is it just that the studios know how rabid Star Trek fans are and that they'll pay almost anything?
It seems I also have to learn how to read

I did not notice that the episodes listed on the Q set are just guesses by Herc. So I will save my vitriol for when we know for sure if Paramount is putting duplicate episodes on these discs and leaving out other related great episodes.

paramount killed the goose that laid the golden egg by selling the same stuff in repackaged boxes because trekkers will fall for that rubbish. for years they sold all the eps on video, holding back the dvd sales until video was dead.. now they're ramping up dvd boxes because.. gues what hd dvd and blueray are on its way. dont believe the hype, the episodes are in in heavy rotation on tv anyways. i used to buy all the videos until it dawned on me that it was a colosal waste of time and money *cough* torrent *cough*

Q on Tapestry
by Tapestry-Lover
Mar 7th, 2006
03:03:37 PM
Man, that episode was everything I wanted for a Q episode. In other words, it was the exact opposite of the Robin hood episode. Tapestry had life, death, and everything in between. it made you think. It made the charactyers think. it challenged what we thought we knew about Q. It was one of the rare episodes where you couldn't easily predict where it was going after 3 minutes. It kept me engaged throughout. And just when it got too deep, only then did they add some Q-style levity. Honestly, in the opening scene where Picard is dazed and confused, and Q announces "your dead and I'm God". Man, they had me at hello.

They missed the opportunity to do a DS9 movie
by I Dunno
Mar 10th, 2006
10:42:41 AM
in 1998. Instead of whatever the hell Star Trek 9 was about they should have done a Dominion War movie with the TNG and DS9 crews. That would have accomplished two things. First, it wouldn't have sucked like Trek 9 did. IT would have been a big, kick ass Star Wars type movie (yeah I know, Trek is about social commentary and the human experience but we're trying to make money here) and it would have introduced the DS9 crew for future movies. Instead they're at a dead end now because they thought the TNG crew would last forever.

Look at that photo of Marlo Thomas. . .does she remind you of anyone? Anyone with big, purty eyes and soft brunette hair? She reminds me of someone I like very much who has her own Friday night show. I think this may be more than just coincidence. W/R/T Ghost Whisperer. . .every time I watch it I am struck by the thought that this is a show that, deep down inside, really REALLY just wishes it were That Girl 2006 with supernatural overtones. Do any of you get that feeling too? They're trying hard to escape the shadow of Medium. . .and the rights to That Girl ARE available, are they not? So why not just go for it? Something to think about. :)

Yep gotta agree that DSP ruled them all. And that the ALL of the continuous story archs and REAL character development that took place are what sets it apart. As an avid reader of all the ST books I have to say it's the series that most closely has the feel of the development that takes place for the rest of the series OFF screen. And yes, the Dominion War story arch doth rawk! But I still say City on the Edge of Forver, Best of Both Worlds and All Good Things are some of the best television ever produced.

...other than Enterprise, I thought Spike had exclusive rights to Next Gen, DS9 and Voyager. Am I wrong on this? Help me out people.
Oh, and regarding Voyager suckage....
by Jaka
Mar 10th, 2006
07:46:58 PM
...I, personally, think it's better than Enterprise because Enterprise should have never happened. Beyond that, I still rank it fourth out of the series I choose to admit exist. lol. But! Big BUT!...I like big butts and I can not....errr....upon rewatching the series I found there are only two things that really created the suckage. One, the actor that played Chakotay didn't like the series and should have been dumped as soon as he made that known. Pretty much every scene he is in is craptacular. Two, they relied too much on the holodeck for storylines. Otherwise, it was STILL better than most of what is on basic cable and it was near the ONLY Sci-Fi worth watching for most of it's run. Sure, they could have solved the holodeck issue if they had just brought them home earlier in the run. But that falls into the "why not get rid of that Chakotay guy if he doesn't want to be involved?" catergory as well. There seems to have been some stubborness at Paramount about Voyager. But really, it had more like 10 or 12 good eps each season - 4 or 5 of which were excellent. All just my opinion of course. And my personal ranking is still DS9, a tie for TOS and TNG (with TNG maybe a TAD in front because of the 7 season run), then Voyager....and ummmm, that other one that should never have existed.
And lastly, ST: Titan
by Jaka
Mar 10th, 2006
07:49:52 PM
Has anybody read the first two ST: Titan books yet (as well as Articles of the Federation)? Riker finally has his command, of the USS TITAN. Troy is his "Number One" and I'll be damned if they aren't GREAT books so far. The third is too be released soon. Those too books, along with Articles of the Federation all fall into place right around Nemesis (before and after) in the timeline and, if there is ever to be another ST series, it had BETTER be this.
Enterprise vs. Voyager
by Voice O. Reason
Mar 10th, 2006
08:43:21 PM
I'm going on the record and saying that Enterprise's last season makes it beter than Voyager. Neither Archer nor Janeway were all that bright, but at least Enterprise had T'Pol and Trip. Voyager's only good character was the Doctor. DS9 ruled them both, though.
Enterprise was ok.

It really got moving in its last season and showed that it could be good. I liked the temporal cold war and I liked the treacherous Vulcans. The characters were ok, better than V'gers anyway. Anyway, it wasn't as bad as most people say.
