Sky High rocked. And so did Warren Peace.

Then again, I very rarely like cavemen stories unless they're less than a third of the running time, like 2001: ASO, but Emmerich could have some stupid fun with this.

Does this seem like an odd choice for a blockbuster maker? Cave-man days? That doesn't at first glance, seem to appeal to the core audience of middle america. I don't think we'll be able to make much out of this one until we see some footage. www.unseenfilms.com

The cultural level in most parts of the world in 10000 BC or thereabouts would only be slightly below that of your typical plains Indian of the 14th century. These people weren't that alien to us at all, although I'm willing to bet that Emmerich will ham it up with cartoon caveman antics.

If he's going for an anthropologically-correct film, then the look of the characters is going to be somewhat grotesque; certainly not what we consider beautiful by today's standards. So why bother casting an "ungodly cute" girl in the film? She's gonna have fucked up teeth at the least, right? Kind of like a female Austin Powers. Or Kirsten Dunst... I've got it! Cast Ethan Hawke and Kirsten Dunst and save yourself a bunch of money on makeup.

Emmerichs films look good, but the dialogue in everyone of his movies has gone down hill since Stargate. As for caveman movies.. Quest for fire was the only half decent caveman era movie. But I suppose he'll find something to blow up and we man even have SG1 come through a Stargate at some point with that bloke who appaeras to wear eyeline say next to nothing and raise only one eyebrow, and I'm not talking about the Rock!!

The dog had been successfully domesticated by 10,000 BC (or 12,000 BCE, BCE=before the common era), and the mideastern city of Jericho (yes, that Jericho, the one in the Bible) was founded in 5000 BC (7000 BCE). The people of 10,000 BC might've not been rocket scientists, but they weren't knuckle-dragging cavemen either. Neandertal died out about 35,0000 years ago, if you want to portray THEM as the knuckle-draggers (which they probably weren't, either). But, still, who the hell cares about history or accuracy?

Homo Sapiens as such may have been around in her present biological form (more or less) for the past 80-100,000 years. Neanderthals may have existed as recently as 40,000 years ago. Unless Emmerich is making a Neanderthal movie then his ice age people will be modern Homo Sapiens, thus eliminating the need for prosthetic brows and sloping foreheads -- unless he decides to squeeze in a couple of flash forward bookending scenes depicting members of the Kansas Board of Education.

From the title I was hoping that we might have a trashing of religious beliefs. I wish some one would have the balls to make a fantasy version of history where all religions collide into one story but following a timeline according to their inceptions. Just think Bible meets Koran meets Mahabarat and anything else you care to throw into the melting pot of bullshit. According to the Jewish faith/scripture it is a heresy to say that the Earth is anything more than around 5000 years old. And that one bloke created the whole lot. Good luck to 'em all. It's time for all Religions to die in the name of Science and Peace. Choose your side..! NOW!!!

I've always loved "Quest for Fire", although it hasn't aged well. This sounds like something similar and updated with better special effects - and, of course, a different period of time, considering we see both H.Sapiens sapiens and H.Sapiens Neanderthalerensis in "Quest for Fire". Here's to hoping they keep it at least moderately scientifically accurate; earlier posters are of course correct in noting that 10,000 years ago, homo sapiens was pretty similar to what we are now.
I'll just watch Quest for Fire instead.....

I fucking love this film, and I love the directors cut even more. However with recent atrocities from Emmerick such as 'Godzilla - C grade remake of B grade films" and "Day after tommorow - Lets have a chase scene where we outrun the cold" I never noticed just HOW BAD StarGate actuallt is AFTER they travel through the gate to the desert world. The film is so fucking good until that moment. ID4 was great though. I still ove that film - even though the american propaganda is so fucking gut wrenching to watch. I mean, thank you America for leading us all in bringing down the Aliens. We were all so stupid until you came in with morse code that we were going to fight back. Nah, it was great. Really great. ...because I'm not bothering to look at your screen name. BC=before Christ, which assumes that Jesus was born around the BC/AD interface (or, 0 AD). BCE=before the Common Era, which doesn't bring Jesus into the mix (Jeebus, what will the Fundies think!!!), which adds 2000 years (plus six, since you are apparently a dork), to the BC date. I can't attest to the time of the Sphinx, but I'm not going to bitch about it until I look it up. (And yes, Dorkus, I did check the dates for Jericho.) Sorta liked the Patriot and that Instant Ice Age thing w/ Dennis Quaid. But his stuff just doesn't seem to last that well you know? Very B grade stuff w/ big budgets. This will prob. have dinos running around. And a crashed spaceship which shows this is in fact the future, not the past. Twist ending. Even my brother Earl'd try it.

Why aren`t they casting real men in these roles..? Audiences are not ready to follow an inexperienced boy toy in great dangerous territories. I realised that with Whalberg and Planet of the Apes. Put Michael Douglas in the same role and it`s at least 50% better.

...but Dorkus is. My bad. BC is equivalent to BCE. 10,000 BC/BCE still is consumer-free of Neadertals, dinosaurs, and figuring out how to use fire. Maybe the big deal of the movie will be entering the Western Hemisphere via the Bering Strait (which is probably called something else way back then). And the next time you use Wikipedia, maybe you'll learn how to spell Tucson.

The more craptastic-sounding movies Steven Strait gets cast in, the more I am losing faith in his acting. He is definitely only being cast because of his looks. The only thing I've enjoyed him in so far was "Sky High." This cave movie sounds like an excuse to see Steven in a skimpy loincloth.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a test screening of Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C. at the Lakewood Center North Theatre in Lakewood, Ca. I will be attending (it will be my first test screening, "aint it cool"?). I imagine that Roland will be there and I'll be looking out for him (I know what he looks like and he has a thick German accent). Any way I'll post my thoughts about it afterwards.

10,0000 B.C TEST SCREENING Hello, I just got back from a test screening of Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C. at the Lakewood Center North Stadium 16 Theatre in Lakewood, Calif. The invitation said that I should arrive by 6:45 p.m. I'm no fool(well, maybe I am) so I arrived at 5:45 p.m. I'm glad I did because when I got there, there were about 25 people in line. While there I filled out the required information cards and exchanged my invitation for an actual ticket (I provided them with my email address so I hope they contact me for future screenings). Also, some guy working for another marketing company was there scanning the line for audience members to attend a future screening of "Smiley Face" which I soon found out from someone standing in line that "Smiley Face" was code for "Harold and Kumar 2". I decided to pass. Anyway after waiting in line for about an hour and a half, they began to let us in 25 people at a time. They are strict on security at these things. I felt like I was at LAX going through a TSA baggage inspection line. If you had any bags whatsoever, you were required to open it up for inspection. No recording devices were allowed of course but rather than have people with recordable cellphones go through the hassle of returning to their cars to leave their phones they were advised to turn them off. So I went in and secured my seat which just happened to be surrounded by reserve seats for the Warner Bros. suits and associates from the film. I suspected that Roland would be attending so I was excited when two gentlemen sat in the two seats in front of me and started conversing in German only to find out upon closer inspection that neither one of them was Roland. Well I didn't have to wait too long because about 10 minutes before the movie began, Roland came in accompanied by some executives and sat about two seats behind me. Soon a guy who was in charge of the screening came up front to thank us for attending and to tell us that we would be the first of the general public to see the film and he asked us to stay afterwards for a "special announcement"(filling out response cards). He also informs us that some of the effects were incomplete as well as the lighting and color corrections. "Ladies and Gentlemen", he says, "10,000 B.C.!" The lights dim and movie begins with the Warner Brothers logo superimposed over a snow covered landscape. We soon see a scene where Camiila Belle's character(Evolet) as a child is undergoing a spiritual ceremony conducted by her tribe's spiritual leader, an old woman named Old Mother( Mona Hammond). At the same time she is being watched by D'leh( a young boy) who obviously is in love with her. Old Mother conducts her ceremonies in their native tongue and all is well until a caustic event during one of her spiritual chants gives her the ability to speak English. This ability is transferred to other members of the tribe and throughout the rest of film becomes their language of choice. At first I must say it was a little jarring to see them all of sudden speaking English but I got use to it after awhile. (I guess the filmmakers did not want to go the Mel Gibson route and use subtitles through the whole film). Some of the actors I thought looked too contemporary and too good looking for the roles they were playing and I had a hard time believing that they were pre-historic men ( no offense Geico Cavemen). And Camilla, well she is just so damn beautiful! Perhaps a little too beautiful to be believeable in the role she is playing(think Racquel Welch in One Million B.C.). Well after a Mammoth hunt in which he "accidently" kills one, D'leh(Steven Strait) returns to his tribe where he is seen as hero especially by his love, Evolet and his mentor Tic-Tic (Cliff Curtis). But he confesses to Evolet that he killed the mammoth by accident and that he is no great hunter. It is here that we find out that he has doubts about his abilities. Evolet then gives him an inspirational talk. It is the last one they would have for awhile for soon later that night Evolet and others get kidnapped by an enemy tribe whose leader has the hots for her and wants to keep her for himself but turn the others over as slaves to an advance race of people who look like Egyptians(they need slaves to build the pyramids). D'leh begins his quest to find Evolet and bring her home and enlist the help of Tic-Tic and other tribesmen along with a young boy who's mother was killed in the kidnap/massacre. He also enlist the help of an small army of black tribesmen who have their own axe to grind with the goons that kidnapped Evolet. It is at this point in the film where I am reminded of John Ford's 1956 classic "The Searchers" where John Wayne spends years looking for his young niece who was kidnapped by indians however this has since become a common plot point so I don't consider it a rip-off but rather an inspiration. It also at this point where our hero gets to test his fighting skills for during his quest for his love he must fight pre-historic ostritches( almost as bad-ass as velociraptors), Mammoths and Saber-tooth tigers. In case you haven't guess, there are no dinosaurs in this film because they became extinct 65 million years ago way before the dawn of the Ice Age which is when this film takes place. I believe that the film's strong points are it's action scenes and is weak points are it's acting scenes. It's a pretty simple story, one that has been told through the ages: Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy battles prehistoric animals to get girl back, boy loses girl again, boy comes back with an army and a befriended sabertooth tiger to get girl back, Boy marries girl (in a prehistoric way). Boy and Girl live happily ever after (at least until The Ice Age begins). Despite some of it's weaknesses I still consider it worth seeing even in it's primitive( no pun intended) form. I thought that the film had a strong finish when they stormed the enemy tribe's territory to try to rescue Evolet. When the bad guys got their comeuppance, the audience clapped. The film looks almost complete they just need to make the necessary adjustments to the color, lighting and maybe sound. The CGI was all there but some of was it incomplete so they will have to render in the details. When it's released on March 7th, 2008 I will go see it again to see what was left in, taken out or added in. I also want to see the CGI fully detailed. Well, until next time Towerman out!
