Terminator 1 & 2, The Abyss, Aliens, classics. Dark Angel, True Lies, Strange Days, Rambo 2, good movies (tv shows). Titanic however, negated all of that. So he's at zero now. So I'm open minded about his next project.

Anyhoo the first time I caught Wahlberg was in The Corruptor and I had this to say back then, "How many times must these great Hong Kong stars be told not to come to America? And how many times must Mark Wahlberg be told to go to Hong Kong?".

I mean once you remove the costume (as a movie version would certainly do considering the duds that guy wears) you're left with a movie about a guy who can breath underwater and swim fast. And I'm pretty sure Kevin Costner already took care of that. I really struggle to think of anything that can take place centering around Aquaman that would actually be interesting to watch. Same thing goes for Whedon's Wonder Woman. If she's not wearing the wonder woman duds, flying an invisible ship or lassoing people, then what your left with is a movie about an ass kicking woman. Which Whedon has already given us seven seasons of. Somethings translate to film, and somethings don't. Aquaman and Wonder Woman don't. Besides, I'm boycotting WB until they make an Ambush Bug movie.

...was ten thousand times better than either Spiderman movie. The acting was better, the atmosphere in the city, the effects, the way they played out his background. It was probably, IMHO, the first seamless comic book translation. Not to mention the fact that they didn't bring in the immediately recognizable villains right away and waste three of them on the first film. And yet it was still a total success with the greatest lead-in to a sequel I've ever seen. I just liked how it made perfect sense the way Gordon explained it at the end, it didn't seem forced. Like let's say the criminals become just as theatrical to instill greater fear and become legends in their own right. Man... hope they can keep it up for the sequel.

avatar will be a fully cgi sci-fi adventure. the story goes: life is shit in the future. josh sully is the main character and is confined to a wheelchair. finds out his dead brother was involved in the avatar program. gets talked into signing up (use of his legs back) goes to far away planet. the humans have a military base and want to get as much precious natural resources from the planet as possible. to make this easier they "project" their minds into the alien species that inhabit the planet. (grow aliens in a lab for this) the aliens are cat-like blue creatures. josh sully gets overly attached to "being" one of the aliens and him along with a renegade group realise that "their" companies cause is evil. he also falls in love with one of the other cats. a big war breaks out. (theres some really cool creatures on the planet) it turns out the whole planet is like a giant "brain" where there is this "magical force" in the forest that maintains a balance in the ecosystem-and is defending itself against the "human virus" thats why the humans are taking so many hits from the local creatures. big big fight. main guy falls in love with a cat-finds a way to live in the avatar body forever by offering his soul to a tree. the blue cats live happily ever after. its better than it sounds btw! cameron goes into great detail describing the glowing forest and all its cool creatures. its really camerons star wars except mebbe not so original and a little preachy on the whole "were damaging the environment" message......its very good though.
They're not REALLY cat-like - avatar description 'ere
by Tubbs Tattsyrup
Feb 25th, 2006

They're very alien in description. "The avatar is bigger than a human. It would stand about eight feet tall, if it uncurled. Its skin is blue... two shades of blue in a banded pattern like a snake of lizard (though the skin is smooth, not scaly). An iridescent cyan blue, almost robin's egg, is contrasted with a deep ultramarine which borders on purple. The darker color is almost solid on the back, and down the backs of the legs. The body is, strangely, almost human in most ways. The waist is narrow and elongated, the shoulders very wide, giving a V shaped upper back. The neck is long (maybe twice as long as an average human, or a little longer than some Vogue models) and, we will see, can turn almost 180 degrees, like an owl. The body overall is more slender, proportionately, then the average human, reminiscent of a Masai or Watusi. The musculature is sharply defined, given no sense of emaciation despite the thin proportions. The avatars in their womb-like environment are at their normal metabolic rate and grow rapidly. Their muscles are constantly electrostimulated, so that they develop normally. The hands are graceful, with three very long fingers, and one opposed thumb. The fingers curve smoothly, bending without joints. This sounds off-putting, but it is really quite beautiful. The faces are exquisite... with cheekbones high as any Pharoah's and large wise eyes, maybe twice the size of ours. When open they dominate the face, like those of a cat, or a lemur. The mouth is also large, but essentially human, with a faint cat-like bifurcation of the upper lip, and a coloration like permanent deep purple lipstick. The teeth are white, with pronounced canines, upper and lower. These guys are clearly carnivores, or at least omnivores. Did I mention the tail? They have a tail. Long and slightly prehensile, but more like the tail of a panther than a monkey. A complex pattern of iridescent dots and lines, perfectly symmetrical, runs over the body, almost following the lines of the nervous or circulatory system. These are bioluminescent chromatophores, and they glow in the dark like fireflies. The alien can communicate with these, and in fact they usually are shifting and changing color to indicate mood and emotion, without conscious control. The body has no hair whatsoever, though there is what looks like a black pony tail, or queue, originating in the back of the head and hanging down almost to the waist. This is not hair, but actually an external part of the nervous system."

Aquaman is so GAY. And James Cameron day is WAY past sunset. "Entourage" is a pretty good series, I must admit. But all of these comic book character movies are getting so tiresome. When someone with their nose constantly in a comic book looks up and gets this glazed look in their eyes and starts a conversation with "Wouldn't it be cool if..." it's time to turn around and walk politely away.

Feb 26th, 2006
06:45:22 AM
...Dances with Wolves on another planet. Maybe it's just me, but the resemblance seemed a bit too close. A war vet goes to a new frontier and discover an native culture there. After some time he learns to overcome mutual distrust and ends up befriending and defending them from his own people. Just add a science fiction setting and you have Dances with Wolves. Yeah, I know, a good number of novels and movies have a plot like that, but it seemed almost beat for beat in the story, right down to the big hunt in the middle. Has anyone else who read the scriptment felt it was too much like Dances with Wolves?

A little derivative, but still very nice. Too all that complain about the lack of "originality" in James Cameron's film concepts, I must say one thing: There ARE no original film concepts anymore. Everything has already been filmed, written about, or conceived of in some way. The usage of different concepts and most importantly the execution is what really matters. And nobody can make a better sci/fi or action film than James Cameron. Nobody. It's ironic that somebody pointed out that The Abyss is his only original idea, because I think The Abyss is his weakest effort by far. I have loved everything he has directed, but I only just like The Abyss. And to steal a cliche, all you fanboy haters of Cameron will be owned by his upcoming slate of films. I only hope that the 3D thing is a concept that won't get carried out.

lots of people slagging Cameron here (and ok he deserved it for Titanic) but lets put a Jim Cameron film up against any other genre film and see whos still standing. Have you watched T2 recently. Looks like Lawrence of arabia compared to the mtv/cg crap that passes for genre cinema these days. Give him a break. At least he's gonna make a proper film and not a overcut cartoon.
Why is every Cameron film bathed in blue light?
by I Dunno
Feb 27th, 2006
12:31:23 PM
Yeah, it's night time, we get it. But the moon doesn't have a permanent blue gel around it. I can forgive all the emo shit that he puts in every film and I concede that if it weren't for the script, Titanic would have been a good film but I can't get past the perrenial blue light on everything.
I Dunno, what Emo stuff?
by one9deuce
Feb 28th, 2006
12:58:52 AM
Honestly, I can't think of any, enlighten me. And the blue light isn't supposed to be moonlight. It's supposed to be pitch black. The compromise being that if it actually was pitch black on screen you wouldn't be able to see anything. I'll go with the dark blue everything over dark black everything.
