...They're now seem to be hooked on the 'Hero of the Week' instead of the 'Krypto-monster of the Week'. I hope this pans out in a fruitful way. Perhaps when Zod and his cronies show up, Clark can put in a call for help from his Super-Firends (sorry, couldn't resist). Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Krpto-chick (whatever her name was...) and who ever else they introduce up against Zod and his cohorts would be fun to see. But, we all know that won't happen. Sadly. Hope this ep is good.

Ok, now that I got that out of the way. No Cyborg won't be sportin Metal. And Mr.TV Genius failed to mention that the guy playing him is the kid that had a hit show on The Disney Channel, yet he didn't share the same success branching out like Shyloh, um, Shi...aw hell the kid from Constantine, and that minx known as Hilary Duff. No, the man held him down. Held him down so much, I can't remember his damn name, but he played The Famous Jett Jackson.

That one, will probably end up being one of my alltime favs. Allison Mack proved once again she can out-act Erica Durance any day of the week. The episode was probably as close to the X-files as you can possibly get. That includes anything they've tried on Supernatural. BTW...During this weeks hillbilly themed Supernatural, I kept thinkin why they even bothered when X-Files "Home" was so damned perfect. I mean with inbreeding mutant hillbilly psychos, plain old hillbilly psychos wont cut it.

I've seen about 3 before the 100th episode aired, now I'm trying to get the first 4 season on dvd and I have bee watching each week. I don't know what it is but the show is actually pretty good given its on the WB. I finally saw Tom Welling in The Fog the other day and I swear I could have pictured him in the new Superman Returns movie. Oh well. I guess that will never happen. So is this the last season since the movie is coming out this summer? I'm assumming it is but I sorta hope it's not.

You are pissed about having to wait a few weeks for a new episode, yet are willing to wait 9 months to a year or more from when the season starts until when the DVD comes out? But where your argument really falls apart is here: "If you, the viewing public, give them the ratings they need, they will have no impetus to do anything more." If a show does not get ratings, because everyone is waiting for the DVD, the show will be cancelled. If the show is cancelled, there will not be any new episodes to release on DVD. You can't rent what does not exist.

But i think they're going to end the show this season because the movie is coming out. But the story... to quote Bart Simpson, I didn't think it was possible, but that both sucked and blew. Speaking of THE SIMPSONS, remember when The Who came to Springfield and Homer broke into the "Just Chloroform" store to give them a little "liquid persuasion" to play in Old Springfield? Do they have one of those stores in Smallville, because every psycho seems to be running around kidnapping the girls.

Yay, Herc. Thanks for the scoops. I'm tuning in tonight for Cyborg and Lex and other storylines that I won't mention right now here, but yes, I'm also interested in who's blackmailing Martha. But come on, the "You'd die without this gadgetry" that Lex says in the trailer - don't you want to know more. I do. But it's Lex, so. Anyway, invisotext for "Smallville" - I love it. Please share more with us when you get it, Herc. Must.know.more. And I can't believe this is the last "SV" until April. That makes me blue. What's the repeat schedule like? I need to plan. :)

smallville

okay... when i watch smallville, i can easily point out its flaws and shortcomings yet i never seem to get around to hating it. i watch every week, and because i'm a long-time fan, i just overlook the shit and praise the good stuff. i mean, how many times have we seen someone learn clark's secret only to forget it by episode's end? about a billion. yet i don't seem to care as much as i should. this season has had more than its share of mediocre storylines ("Bo for Senator, no wait he's dead... here you go Ma, run the state." ummm.... what?) and shit-tacular villains (lex's bald stalker) yet i'm still hailing this year will be smallville's best. why? cause i'm a retard, i guess, but more importantly because the show is finally setting clark up to be superman. how you get from point a to point b, no matter how many continuity rules they break or memories they have to erase, doesn't matter so much. the episode a few weeks ago with the batman rip-off vigilante should have been terrible. and it was. acting, writing, the coincedences and conveniences... all of it... it was trash. the timeline was fucked all to shit and made no sense, yet when that final scene came on, with the family home video, and Jonathan said "Bye-bye" not just to the camera, but to the smallville audience, i nearly lost it. the whole episode became worthwhile because of those two heartbreaking words of dialogue. no smallville's not perfect, but nor does it claim to be, and that is why i will stick with it till the end. peace!

fuck the continuity from the comics and just let lose the dogs. Stick some bad ass villians in there, for fuck's sake! Hey a gorilla eats some meteor rock and turns into...Gorilla Grodd! Has Metallo shown up yet? I forget, but stick that dork in there too. Hey how about Clark interrupting a gun fight between...Deadshot and Deathstroke! Fuck it, stick in Flash's own rogue gallery in there. Who cares! But let's keep those episodes coming where Lana turns into a witch and Chloe gets possessed and Lois turns into a prostitute. Oh wait, she's already one sorry.
ComfortGirl, I do think Networks keep track
by Big Jim
Feb 16th, 2006

of DVD sales and, possibly, rentals. But I don't think those numbers carry much weight with them (kind of like "critical acclaim"). How will they know who is watching and who is buying and whether or not they are the same people? DVD sales can affirm or reaffirm a show's popularity but the Networks can not afford to wait for DVD sales before deciding on pursuing a new season. The ratings numbers come in long before the DVD sales. By the time the DVD is released a show with low ratings will have long been cancelled. The Networks will not go out of business. Instead they will begin (again) to air more reality shows which are cheaper to produce and, mysteriously, often get high ratings. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have uninterrupted seasons (like 24 or Alias last year) but I don't think boycotting broadcasts is the way to go. For some people, waiting one week for the next episode is too long. You can watch 4 weeks worth of Lost episodes in 3 hours on DVD. How long is too long between episodes? Where does it end? All the Networks will see are low ratings and dwindling advertising dollars. And if they ask 10 viewers "why" they will probably get 10 different answers. By the way, 8 months, with a Christmas break, would be about 30 episodes/season. I don't see that ever happening either. Good luck to you. Your cause is just, it's your method that's flawed.

cuz I mean what drew a lot of people to smallville when it first started was the whole clark and lex are friends thing. I thought that was cool. but now, they're just becoming slaves to the comic continuity. fuck the comics..if I want a rehash of the comics, guess what, I'll READ THE COMICS...smallville needs to break away from that...do something radically different from accepted 'canon' if it wants to be good again. oh, btw...nekkid Chloe in the shower for teh win!!

if they ever do bring Bruce Wayne into smallville...make them bitter enemies..I know in the comic books they don't see eye to eye...but take it further..make em hate each other. Have Clark finally realize he has feelings for Chloe...next day, Chloe and Bruce have a whirlwind romance..etc etc. You can still have Bruce be a hero, but just make him very lex-like, a jerk in person..but a hero by night.

It was one of the few eppies I didn't like this year, including "Aqua". That "bro" delivery was just painful! But that being said, I think S5 has been very strong. I've loved it: "Splinter", "Lexmas", "Lockdown" and yes, "Reckoning". I've loved those eppies, and I think the show has real momentum. Tonight, "Cyborg" will hopefully be good because like Herc said, no new "SV" for about two months. When it returns, my hope is that it has a handful of stand-out eppies that will make this season. We know James Marsters will return (Lex and Brainiac - that's awesome), and there will surely be more to Lex/Clark and the other relationships on the show (Lex/Lana, Clark/Chloe, Clark/Lana, Martha/Lionel, Martha/Clark)... I do worry about Lex. I don't want them to turn him into some kind of comic-book villain *g*, and I may be naive, but I think the writers will keep him conflicted, wearing those shades of grey... Another reason why I hated "Aqua" was because of the way Lex was portrayed. Though MR was wonderful acting-wise, the stuff Lex had to do, and the fact he was foiled by Clark and A.C. made me very blue. Lex seeing those two streams rushing away in the water - what did he think that was? Where are his cameras? He had a pic of A.C. underwater, but he has no proof yet of the strange things Clark is capable of?... *sigh* I better stop. I start talking about Lex, and I get carried away. Still. That said, I think Season Five has been very good, and I am glad we're getting a Talk Back. Herc heard us. Thanks, Herc.
Adding - yes, I want Batman to make an appearance.

That would be awesome. Too bad they didn't work the Adam storyline of S3 for what it was worth. That could've been even better. My like of that arc has everything to do with Lex/Lana, and nothing to do with the opportuntiy not taken with the Adam Knight character, so. But yes, maybe they can find a way to bring the real Bruce Wayne into Clark/Lex's world.

I'm kinda curious. Has Prof. Fine ever been called "Brainiac" on the show at all? I know Fine is Brainiac's name, but his character is not making sense. Is he Kryptonian? Isn't he supposed to be from Colu instead? Does he have telekinesis at all? He does not remotely match up with the comic book character at all. I do like his hatred of the Luthors though. Still don't agree with them killing Jonathan btw. But I guess they want more of the movie continuity. I still love the show too, despite the inconsistency. It's the little moments (Clark flying, Fortress built, non-stop shower scenes) that keep me glued.

I'm only an occasional viewer but I dig it. And of course, don't put him in the costume or make him fly, that would kill the show. So would making Clark and Lex out and out enemies although they're getting there.

See...here's why they get rid of Jonathan. Without him Martha's IQ goes way down. Now the writers have another dumb female character to write for. They must have been getting tired of writing for Lana or maybe they were having too much fun figuring out ways to make her look stupid. Did anyone catch the look on Kristen's face when Clark zoomed off? Even she isn't buying it anymore.

Lionel was going to use the knowledge of Clark's secret to blackmail Pa Kent. Now that he is dead, Lionel realizes he can grow close to Martha. And the only way for Lionel to have a realtionship with Martha is to abandon his evil ways. I think Lionel is for real with the redemption act.

I would first like to congratulate Smallville from refraining from referncing the Teen Titans in some stupid one-liner. Okay, now that I got that out of the way, i can say that this episode was one of the best of the season. We got a very cool team up between Clark and Vic Stone. I especially liked how they were not set up as adversaries at first. Vic threw Clark into the wall but that was about it in terms of conflict between the two. They threw in a reference to the comic book Cyborg in that scene as well. When Clark x-rayed Vic, his skull had a metallic apparatus on the left side of his face that resembled the one his comic book counterpart has. Loved the Clark/Vic scenes. They were great together. We got to see the two-faced duplicitioud Lex we all love. When he came out of the shadows after Vic was taken away in his girlfriends house, I was all like, "Oh Hell yeah! Evil Lex rules!" I really enjoyed the scenes where Lex was lying outright to clark, because we all knew he was purposely lying, to the very end. cause he's evil. Clark did it too, and it added an extra punch to their scenes. It was great when Lex refenced how often Clark shows up at the mansion unannounced and throws accustions at Lex. And the small talk line was gold too. I knew there was more to the Lionel/Martha scenes than met the eye. And boy did we get an answer. I liked how in the end, clark and lana openly professed their love ofr each other. They rarely, if ever, do that. Maybe they really have grown up. This was just a great episode with reprocussion s htat will hopefully last until the end of this season. Still don't know why Martha wants anything to do with a man who has caused her family much grief over the years. Lionel Luthor cannot be trusted, damnit! Well, he can be now, since he is reformed, but his track record as a good guy is crap. "Cyborg" was the best Smallville episode this season since "Solitude" and easily the best of the team-up episodes("Run" and "Aqua" being the other two.)

There's about 10 minutes of good stuff every episode (ie tonight with Lionel), and the rest is crap. I thought we were going somwhere with Spike-'er-Brainiac. I know he's come up again, but let's get away from these formulaic episodes. The reason Lexmas was so great was because it didn't fit the mold of the show. Same with Reconing (if they'd had the balls to keep the first 'pass'). At this rate the CW version of Smallville will be more like 50 minutes of "Hey Chloe, can you grab me a new Black Cherry Vanilla Coke from the GE Profile refridgerator I got from Sears today on my Visa card?"
Formulaic? Yeah

if Lionel is 'good' now or possessed by Jor-el or whatever the fuck the story is, why did he stage the whole blackmail thing. I honestly didn't get that....as for the rest of tonigh's ep...crap. The guy who played cyborg certainly acted well enough in my opinion, but the story is CRAP, or at least more of the same ole shit...superhero of the week...dance around the whole Clark/Lana thing. Clark and Lex dance around each other..its so pointless At this point, does it even matter that Lex doesn't know Clark's secret..he has to have figured it out by now that its Clark that is directly assisting Cyborg/Aquaman...there were two trails of bubbles, there were two craters in the concrete when the jumped..10 seconds later, Clark comes storming in wagging his finger at Lex and saying shame shame about stuff your average 18 year old could never figure out on their own unless they were directly involved...Lex has to know that Clark is the #2 guy in all of those situations so he has to know he has some funky abilities...who cares as to the exact nature of them Lex sure as hell wouldn't..he just wants the power

yeah i liked this ep, certainly of the better ones this seaons, but I guess i am still jaded cause I thinkthey still shoulda killed Lana. Don't know much about cyborg, but woulda liked seeing him do more than be strong and bleed pnuematic oil. The scene where clark and lana and in awe of the love of vic and his girl and then lana glancing at clark and his return is less than reciprocal was nicely done. Evil Lex is great but I still think the turn is too sudden and the lana death woulda made more sense, why's he an ass now, just a sore loser (senate race?)

We know who'd have the "broke back" in that relationship. Hopefully they explore the butch/bitch dynamic that has always existed between these two characters more fully in the movie. In other news, I'd really like to mack Allison Mack.

I didn't catch the whole episode, but is the cd-rom with Clark rescuing Lana at top speed what was on the photo that Lionel had earlier that caused Jonathan's fatal heart attack? All Lionel is trying to do is get down Martha's pants. And he knows the name "Kal-El" from the Indian caves (I believe) - and where are those caves now? Once the portal to the fortress was revealed, it's hardly around, likewise the Indian mythology (which I don't mind, as that seemed pretty silly).

I believe my old pal Shermdawg is right when he says "Jor-el" is actually Zod manipulating Clark for some nefarious scheme... As to Lionel, he lusts for Martha, maybe even thinks she could redeem him, but he is way past the red on the Evilometer, so he can only scheme and manipulate to try and win her... Don't forget he knew about Dr. Swann and Margot Kidder - he probably knows all about Krypton and everything else - now he wants Clark as an ally - and what better way than help Martha? And if Lex gets wind that Lionel is trying to cozy up to Martha and thinks of Clark as a new "son", that will really drive old Lex over the edge! (P.S. If "Jor-el" isn't Zod then he's some Kryptonian heavyweight villain like Jax-ur.)

Where is Jor-El supposed to be? Krypton is still destroyed in this version of the Superman universe right? Is he in the Phantom Zone or something? Or is he just some recordings with AI like in the film?

C'mon, Terence Stamp cast as the voice of "Jor-El" and he even made a "Kneel before me" remark in one episode. There's the Disciples of Zod and Brainiac goes to the Fortress to free Zod from the Phantom Zone, where coincidentally "Jor-El" happens to interact with Clark? In the immortal words of Buffy, add it up...it all spells "Duh."

I'm glad the show is going on hiatus with a good episode because thinking of the last guest character they had on, I was a little nervous Victor would turn out to be more A.C. than Bart ("Run"), but yay, I was wrong. I really liked his character and yes, Lee Thompson Young, did well. I would love for them to bring Victor back - him and Bart. Somehow they meet up and return to Smallville to look up Clark. A.C. can stay away... but anyway, I liked the friendship between Victor and Clark, and their easiness with one another was believable, given their backgrounds and abilites. To sum up the rest: Lex!!!, and Lionel and Martha - I'm kinda confused, but I think we're supposed to be a little, Lex and Lana (no scenes, but she did speak up for him, and then Lex said the line about what the heart can do to one's better judgment - of course, that went to a Martha/Lionel scene so), Clark and Lana look as if they're realizing they are stuck in a holding pattern (it's sad for them, but in order for my ship to happen, they will have to deal w/ their feelings first), and let's see, very cool to see Chloe, Clark and Lana together, and oh Lex and Victor!, and the duel leap/jump of Victor and Clark was awesome... I know I'm missing a lot, but I can't post anymore right now, so this is just my jumbled, thumbs-up endorsement. Thanks again for the TB, Herc... about Jor-El being Zod, I don't know. I just know that ending made me go "oh my gosh" and also - "wha?"

Of course it's entirely possible that the best villain on TV is actually still scheming, but Lionel's life was just saved by Clark 2 eps ago. He was "changed" after swapping bodies w/ Clark and only brought back to the dark side by Lex. With his info from Swann and tons of clues along the way (was his vision really gone while Clark saved him and Martha?) it's safe to say he knows about Clark anyway. I like everyone's ideas about teaming up with all the recent good guys they've added to the show. It was cool when they brought back past villains in "Asylum", so SV writers could do something again. How about some superfriends team up to save Clark? And I would like to see Lucas Luthor again, before Lex kills his daddy. Also, I must be killing too many brain cells cuz I can't remember when that footage of Clark saving Lana was from? I didn't know it was Lana until somebody posted above. I kept trying to figure out what the damn video was!

two things come to mind...1. can someone please tell Lana to walk, or at least catch a cab or the bus? for God's sakes man, she's like a human crash test dummy. 2. you see how good the "super-hero of the week" gimmick can be when you get someone who actually can act and give you the emotional resonance that you need to feel sympathy for the character? the dude playing Victor Stone did that, unlike the Aquaman guy who I think they found walking down the street and said"hey dude, you wanna be Aquaman?" Props to the scene where Clark x-rays Victor and you see the eye-piece; I had to rewind that a couple times.nice ending too. would be nice if they brought back Cyborg to get Clark's ass out of the fire later in the season.

They must have the most expensive car insurance the world has ever known at this point. No wonder Jonathan had a heart attack. He just got his new premium bill from Allstate. Princess Diana could get cheaper car insurance. Princess Grace Kelly, too. Jayne Mansfield could find better rates. James Dean would have an easier time getting a policy... Stop me now!

They were in Metropolis not Smallville at the time. And yes, it would have been funny if Clark ran into Good 'Ol Pete while looking for Vic. The episode was meh, I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as last weeks, even though it ended on a high note. Oh, and have you noticed that Toms bulking up? I bet you anything a suit is in his future. Yes, I know the red and blue is a no-no, but nobody said the black and silver outfit is off limits. Oh, and I still say, if it is picked up for a sixth season, we will see the real Supergirl show up. I wonder if the red and blue rule applies to her also?

That was one of the two stipulations to the show. No classic costume, no flying. They kinda found a loophole in the flying one, but they are firm about the suit. I'm sure we may see Tom in it eventually in the final episode one day, but other than that? No way. And by using the Black and silver outfit, they aren't changing anything. It has appeared in the comics, and was worn by Marlon Brando in the first Superman flick. If Tom couldn't wear the red and blue, black and silver is the way to go.

1. Lex has been married 3 times......2. Lana has had 4 "boyfriends", and all 4 have died, 2 of which came back to life. 3 if you count Whitney's (boyfriend #1) shape changing imposter......3. Clark has had 3 girlfriends, 2 fiance's, and has been married once. 2 of the three girlfriends have died. Girlfriend #1 could turn into a wolf. Girlfriend #2 had teleporting powers. Girlfriend #3 was both a kun-fu witch, and a vampire......4. Jimmy Olsen made Chloe Sullivan "a woman"......5. Major storyline reboots: 1, that being the origin of Lex's dead brother Julian......

Question about Lionel

How and when did he return to a status of wealth and power? Wasn't he broke after getting out of prison, and doesn't Lex still run Luthercorp?
Answer about Lionel (sort of)

02:48:19 PM
Lionel and Lex have come in and out of power with Luthorcorp so many times it's a bit hard to keep track. However, I think if fair to say that when dealing with people such as the Luthor's, "out of power" is a very relative term. Lionel may not be controlling the corporation, but he still has contacts, and surely has substantial private funds and investments which can be tapped. He may not have the resources he once did, but he's still got far more power than most people on the planet (except, apparantly, the one who weilds the power of the all-mighty Kansas State Senator).
How stupid is Martha?
by MrD
Feb 18th, 2006

They've done nothing but remind us how smart, capable and independent Martha is - making sure that even though she's on a farm and has no career, she's very much a "modern woman" (because, you know all them other farm women are like the women in them hillbilly movies). Now she has no idea how to deal with blackmail, and is too dumb to see Lionel's fingerprints? How the hell did he know where she was meeting her extorter? I know he has resources, but shouldn't she have at least ASKED?

I want to clear somthing up. I heard that when Smallville was in development they thought it would be more engaging to show Clark developing as a person and coming of age...so to prevent "jumping the shark" too soon they agreed to the "no flighs, no tights" policy enabling a true climax for the ending. Not so much that they are forbidden from using the classic suit. Let me know your thougts

From what I've heard...
by Shermdawg

the classic suit is not acceptable, especially now with Routh doing the flicks. Chances of Tom wearing it, outside the series finale is slim. (BUT HOPEFULLY WE WILL GET A SMALLVILLE MOVIE ONE DAY, I mean, this is waaaay more popular than Firefly. Of course Firefly didn't have a competing crew preventing them from making Serenity.) And forget the black and silver outfit. I forgot, but I believe thats the suit Routh wears when he...um, returns (heh) to Earth. So it looks like Welling is stuck with the shirt/blue jacket, blue shirt/red jacket combo for the rest of the series. And aceattorney, the "evil" Clark, was one of the loopholes I was talking about when it came to getting around the flight issue. But that rule seems to have been thrown out the window, because, along with Jor-El, Martian Manhunter, and another as of yet DC hero, flight was hinted at for season six, if it happens. I just hope we get better effects for it, like the "evil Clark" scene, rather than the embarrasing shot with Lana in the Fortress.

Thanks for the response. The scene that really made me wonder was the one where Lionel had inhabited Clark's body, and attempted to access a hidden bank account with millions in it, but found out that Lex had already raided it. Then when he got out of prison he was on that charity kick. Then there was that scene where Lex seemed to humiliate Lionel back into pursuing his old ways. Then I thought Lionel was inhabited by Jor-el and was going to be a benevolent force, but then there was that recent episode with the superpowered girl where it was revealed Lionel was employing street gangs in a real-estate scheme. I'm just a bit confused about his character. But based on what you said, I take it that there was not an episode or scene where they came out and explained how Lionel regained wealth independent of Lex, right? I thought maybe I had missed something.
