He is in it for such a short time, but to this day get misty eyed when they find his smoking body. He was one of the few characters that seemed real and recognizeable and down to "earth". Something that was sorely missed from the newer ones. He was a gateway into that world.... But what the hell was Battlestar the 2nd coming? How did I miss that?

I never think of the character Uncle Owen- because he didn't seem "Acted", he seemed like the father figure most of us had in our youth. He just seemed real - and that's what great acting acheives. Rest In Peace.

BG - The Second Coming

Phil Brown was asked by Richard Hatch to play a member of the Council of the Twelve in a longer scene shot for Hatch's Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming, the short he co-directed back in late 1998/early 1999. You only saw a glimpse of Phil in the final trailor, however, if you were lucky enough to see it at conventions where Hatch appeared. I was lucky to work on it as an assistant director, but unfortunately it is, and never will be, available anywhere to the public at large. Hatch had an agreement with the Screen Actor's Guild, and it was made as a presentation piece to stir up interest to revive the (older)show at the time (before Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto tried). The "Second Coming" was a labor of love, and there was enough good footage shot to make a half-hour episode, but was wittled down to 2 1/2 minutes. Phil Brown of course knew his way around a set, but definitely was getting up there in the years...

Wow, I'm speechless. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh and I'm thankful for what we got from Phil Brown. He was perfect in Star Wars and Harry (and a few talkbackers) are right in saying those opening moments and realism of that movie really set the tone for ALL that followed. It gave Luke's story weight. Wow, bless his soul and may he rest in peace. Thanks Mr. Brown.

Yep, I had a chance to meet and talk with him at a small convention in Lubbock, Texas. Both he and Jeremy (Boba Fett) Bullock were there, and they each told fairly amusing stories about working with British thesp Nicol Williamson. Though Phil was fairly debilitated even then, he was a genial, humorous guy. Though he'd been in tons of films, I'll always remember him intoning "That wizard's just a crazy old hermit!" Rest in peace, Phil.

At 10:05 this Friday evening my grandfather passed away at the age of 91. He'd have been 92 on the 29th of this month (28 as there is no leap year this go around). He made Louisville Slugger bats from 1950 until 1977, when he retired to take care of my grandmother, who passed three years later. While Uncle Owen has a place on my video shelf, my PaPaw undersatandably has a place in my soul no one can touch. At last you're reunited with Mary Louise, Paps. Three cheers for Coy Smith...he was a hell of a man! Looks like I need to book a flight now as opposed to hangin' around...

What the hell is a moisture farm anyway? Does it produce moisture in the same way that a dairy farm produces dairy products. Or does it use moisture to farm? If so,is it necessary to call it that? I mean what kind of farm doesn't use moisture? How does one harvest moisture? To think we might have missed such lines as "Well, Luke, we have a fine crop of moisture coming in this year." By the way, Brown was a legend.

Totally agree with the comments here about him providing that much needed gravitas you need in a sci-fi fantasy picture. I always loved the scenes between Phil Brown and Mark Hamill. He's like every good Uncle, Father/Father figure or Grandfather you've known - they may seem overly stern or unfair, but they know the score, but deep down their motivations are born out of love. Sounds sappy, but I don't care. You will be missed Mr. Brown, hyperspace to a better place Uncle Owen....
