I recently watched a torrent of crappy VHS-sourced Divx files. The DVD set would be worth the price just for the two Lynch-directed episodes. The show doesn't appreciably go downhill until after the incredibly creepy episode in which Laura's killer is revealed, and that's halfway through the season. I'll admit it gets pretty rough from there until the last few episodes. But the series finale's Black Lodge scenes rank among the most surreal and unsettling work Lynch has ever done. Gave me nightmares when I was 10, and it still scared the shit out of me when I watched it last month.

It's true that Twin Peaks takes a nose dive (halfway)through season 2, but ONLY after Laura's killer is revealed. Do you really mean to tell me that you don't want the conclusion of the original story to come out? I've been putting off watching my season 1 set because it's an unfinished story.

...that got Clone High off the usenet. What a great premise that show had. I'd love to see a live action version, if they'd keep the same tone. As much as I loved Wiseguy in it's day, that season with Steven Bauer was pretty awful. I'm just glad to have the Steelgrave and Proffit storylines on DVD. BTW, I'm still willing to make a human sacrifice to get Now & Again released on DVD.

Seriously, watch Daria (yes, even if you have to watch it edited and with a couple episodes skipped on Noggin) and tell me it's not a great show. Yes, B&B were funny, but are nowhere near as clever as South Park or Daria were, or had the heart that the latter show has.

Larry Sanders was one of the greatest sitcoms ever. The writing was smart, the cast was pitch perfect (Jeffery Tambor = genius), and it was just a hilarious show to watch. It's a crime that they haven't released the other seasons on DVD. HBO don't be fooled by the supposed lackluster sales of the first season on DVD. That was an inferior issue -- non-existant extras and poor video, and it was also in the relatively early days of DVD when it came out. Put it on DVD!!!

"It's Garry Shandling's Show" and "Rome"
by Bungion Boy
Jan 3rd, 2006
09:34:37 PM
Of course "It's Garry Shandling's Show" shouldn't be forgotten and was usually as good as Larry Sanders ever was. I've just seen Larry S sooner. Both shows demand a dvd treatment, espeically since Judd Apatow did Larry Sanders and his releases of Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared were so well put together and full of great things. I vote that he be put in charge of the Larry Sanders discs. Speaking of Rome though, the Season One dvd is in production and will have lots of commentary tracks, deleted scenes, and I hear an alternate ending to the season finale. It will be ready for release by June or so but HBO might hold on to it for a little longer. It would make a great 2006 stocking stuffer... IF YOU HAVE ODDLY SHAPED FEET! (David Letterman)

If "Hearts Afire" is out, then we should have Anything But Love, which ran in the early 90's with Richard Lewis and Jamie Lee Curtis. It was a great sitcom with similarities to Moonlighting, and like that show it started to suck after the leads slept together. Still, the first three years were great.
