The 1933 version is classic in every way and lots of fun. The 1976 version is great nostalgia camp and has a hottie Jessica Lange. This one has CG Kong...I rest my case. What's exciting about this? Why is Harry pimping it like his newborn troll?

LOTR could have just as easily been a cgi spectacle, and I think he handled it pretty well. If this movie indeed sucks, then go ahead and post serious doubts on whether his next film will be good, but cmon, I'd think he should have earned a little confidence with his last effort

"the only thing going for this KONG is the effects"... er right. Were the lord of the rings films just showcases for effects? why would you say that? Clearly with those films Jackson managed to generate a lot of emotion and drama, and bring something worthwhile to a well known story...so why do you think this film will have none of that? Are you just relentlesly negative about everything? Surely, given the quality of Return of the king, theres a CHANCE that this film might be worth watching? People like you depress me. And if you do reply, try to do it without using your best playground put-downs like you did with the poster above...

Certainly, you may be right about there being a chance it's all right. I'll probably cave in and download it for shits and giggles...but I happen to remember movies like "Jurrasic Park"...that film had a well-known cast and respected director and still it was only concerned with wowing us with the effects. The idea that this film is going to stand on its own and contain 'emotion' and 'drama' is funny to me. But then again, I felt the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was pretty to look at, but pretty much empty on every other level (certainly Ian McKellen brought emotion and prestige to Gandalf). I'm not saying this will be the worst film of the year, but I'm pretty damn sure it will be the worst KONG. Has there every been a film at this site that was hyped TO THE MAX for months that didn't end up being abso-crap? That's my point. If raging fanboys can drone on endlessly about how fucking amazing this film is going to be, I can represent balance by denouncing it and its shameless corporate existence. Since you don't want me to insult you, then I'll just call Harry an assbag again for emerging from his kiddie-porn infested dungeon to trump Jackson's masturbatory swill.

Will the score be up to the standards of the rest of the movie I wonder. I love some of JNH's work, but King Kong needs an absolutely classic score, with very recognizable themes, and I don't know if that can be delivered in such a small time. Then again, he did it with Waterworld, where the score was easily the best thing about the movie. I just hope they're using the classic Steiner score as an inspiration. Iconic imagery should be accompanied by iconic music. Let's hope JNH can deliver.

We've all seen that Woody Allen movie with the quote from Balzac, said after the neurotic one gets down with a lady, "There goes another novel", though I doubt so many of us have actually read the book. Learn from your mistakes! Do not fall victim to the hype and slick poster images. If you line up with the rest of the chumps and pay to see this movie what will you get? Super slick CGI visuals (big deal - gimme old school FX anyday) a lame script that only hints at what a great adventure the original is and some new irritating characters. In other words, a major let-down. Just buy the Kong toys and have your own adventures.

Anyone that likes any Bay movie automatically loses the priveledge of having their opinion heard. Bye now. *** Uhm, actually, yeah, a PJ Thor sounds like a good idea, and would probably be a better fit for his sensibilties than LOTR was, because as good as his adaption was, the disconnect bewteen historical epic fantasy and schlocky idie horror was evident. What did I just say? Yeah, that's right, I love the LOTR movies, but I can admit they aren't perfect, but Anne Rice's Jesus Fucking Christ, I don't go on every single fucking talkback and complain about it. Enough already.

i thought that people here liked movies too but it seems that they hate everything.....i know they think they are awesome for coming to every KONG article and abusing it like it makes them cool (unfortunately they seem to forget that they are posting on aint it cool news...we have to be the most uncool people around!!)...but you know what - they are obviously incredibly sad and lonely people with no real lives. i mean why spend so much time and energy into coming here and saying the same tired shit over and over again about a film you seem to have no interest in. be honest now....admit it..you have nothing better to do do you? why come here and write "King Kong is of absolutely no interest to me".I mean if that is the case why did you click on the article? it is weird to me because if i see an article about something i am not interested in i don't fucking read it because I AM NOT INTERESTED IN IT. so why did you come here..there are two reasons possibly 1. you thought by writing that it made you better than the people who are looking forward to it to try and bum them out a bit or 2. because you a liar and i will see you opening night. surely you guys have better things to do than waste your time coming to every kong article to abuse it? surely......

hes right. a perfect example is a new article today showing a new image from ghost rider. i was barely interested enough to click the link and see the image, then did my "meh" (without posting), and let it be, and now ill probably never go back to that article again. why? because im not looking forward to the movie, i have no interest in the movie, so it would be a huge waste of my time to continue to go back to that article and spread hate about "this is gonna suck" and "wha wha wha" crying like a sissy cause i think the cg isnt good enough and blah blah blah. i.. dont.. have.. interest in it, like 50% of you dont have interest in kong, so why dont you do as i do, and not bother posting about it! whats the fun in a site like aicn when you cant pick and choose which films you are anticipating and which you arent. anticipating movies gives me something to look forward to, i like the excitement it gives me, and its obvious that harry shares my anticipation (along with half of u in the talkback) about king kong. and u know what? its HIS site, he can choose to post or not post anything he wants (pretty much i think). if u dont like it, do as slappy said, go make ur own hate filled site about how shitty films are gonna be before they even come out. now im not saying that no matter what im gonna love kong, i anticipated rots in just the same way and now i realize its a flawed film and maybe didnt live up to my excitement in every way, but i still loved getting hyped over it in the months leading to its release. and if kong comes out being a big turd, i wont be afraid to admit it, but for now, every frame of film ive seen of this pic has me excited (as opposed to ghost rider), so thats what is driving this positive hype from me. so far.. it just looks good. thats my opinion, if u dont share it, thats fine, but please dont feel like u have to right post after post after post of how much this is going to suck, u dont know that yet. just like i havent said this is gonna be gold. ive only stated excitement in it, that doesnt mean im psychic and know it will either rule or suck, i just wanna see it.. now. that is all. (sorry for the long post, everytime i tried to end it i thought of more to say, u haters make me angry..)

and so far they all have loved it....spoilers though so beware www.mirror.co.uk - look for the article "kong frontation" and another one here http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews /hi/newsid_4400000/newsid_4407 800/4407852.stm and another one http://www.filmfocus.co.uk/new sdetail.asp?NewsID=484 myfavourite quote is this ""The truth is, making a trip to see 10 minutes of unfinished footage of this film held more worth than seeing, in entirety, some of the films we've seen this year." can't wait.

Either way, I think Kong might actually be an interesting film. Lots of city street rampaging and dinosaur butt kicking. Lets just hope the other 2 hours and 15 minutes is worth the price of admission.

Much more monstrous -- not just a big ape. More of a prehistoric Mammal from the lost world he comes from. Oh well. I think LOTRs has the same problems. Those Olyphants sould have been more monstrous also.

I appreciate that Harry created this website, and gives us tidbits and scoops and reviews of movies he likes. But I in no way, shape or form trust his judgment or value his opinions. And the fact that he likes shitty brainless action crap is a big part of that. I use this site to get a look at things I'm interested in, and make up my own mind about them. And I've come to the decision, based solely on my own response to what I've seen here, that King Kong looks like a movie that I will in all likelihood enjoy. I'm not saying it will be second coming, I don't even think it will deserve to win any awards other than on a technical level, but I do think that it will be an entertaining film. Not because Harry said so and not because you and OrsonBearer say it won't, because none of your opinions matter to me whatsoever. Sorry I can't put that in dyslexic retard for you.

And so I don't think you'll find a high rez version of it anywhere. I do like the iconic quality of the poster you picked out, but it does have some scale issues; he appears about twice the size in that poster as he does in the film. One of the things Weta tried to avoid in this version was the major scale changes that took place in the '33 original - in many scenes kong went from 25ft to more than 100ft in some posters. This time around, however, we kept him the same size throughout.
