Some overweight middle-class woman hit the ball into the net and shouted to her equally overweight and middle-class opponent, "Sorry!". The opponent's remark, "No sorries!". The two women proceeded to laugh for a full minute (no joke) at the incredible wittiness of this interchange. Needless to say, I don't play tennis anymore. Why is it that on both ends of the humanity scale you find such idiocy? Because rich people inter-breed for fear of being contaminated by the common ruffians, and poor people engage in incest because they just don't give a shit.

this second review is so insanely unedited and confusing it has to be a plant. "in her shoes" sounds like "something's gotta give" which is called mom's porn.

I'm not demanding negativity, and I'm actually looking forward to the Woody Allen one, but jeesh. This is Jackie Harvey territory.

I loved LA Confidential and Wonderboys, which are also both adaptations of a novel. Since Hanson seemed to have a good track record (I had read both LA Confidential and Wonderboys as well and thought they were great) I picked up the book In Her Shoes to check it out, but didn't like it at all, just really cliche and saccharine, was really surprised Hanson would pick this as his next project. But the movie has been getting some warm reviews, and I know there's a big section of the book that's been cut out of the film (thankfully), so maybe the adaptation did enough with the source material to make it palatable.
In Her Shoes is a great movie.

It may put you off because it looks like a chick flick (although being put off by Cameron Diaz, to me, means...you're gay) but this is a great movie--far more MAGNOLIA than STEEL MAGNOLIAS, if you'll pardon a cutesy turn of phrase.

Brittish People In Movies

I'm just HUGELY warey of Brittish people in movies now - even being Brittish myself. Whether it's the all to often 2D portrayals of them by foreign actors and film makors, or the willingness of our own folks to sell out to the stereotypes for cash/lack of talent. Thank god for the likes of Mike Leigh. I'm a growing Woddy Allen fan, so I'll probably see this, but I'll be very, very dubious.
Good news.

I'm just glad Woody got out of the Upper West Side again. I know many didn't enjoy Everyone Says I Love You, but it was a pretty ambitious film considering Allen's limited location scope, and the ending dance on the Seine with Woody and Goldie Hawn was pure old-fashioned movie magic. Plus, Tim Roth and Edward Norton singing? I'm also intrigued by the thought of him doing a proper thriller. Manhattan Murder Mystery was a blast, but the suspense took a backseat to the suspense in that one (fine with me, as it was fucking hilarious and brought Diane Keaton back in front of Woody's camera). Johansson looks fantastic, and the trailer looked very, for lack of a better word, artistic, *** Oh yeah, just in case, here's a pre-emptive retort to any cheap Allen jokes: Soon-Yi was NEVER Woody's adopted daughter. She was Mia Farrow's from a previous marriage, hence the last name "Previn". Woody did not help raise her, he was not in contact with her as she was growing up. Also, he was cleared of all sexual abuse charges made by lying-bitch Farrow in regards to their own children, who were examined by three separate child psychologists. Thank you for respecting the facts.
Not exactly Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, are they?

Also Woody Allen never actually did marry Mia Farrow - so that makes it all right then (cross reference with No Good Deed Goes Unpunished).

Did you see The Island???? Maybe not if you think the above movies are so great. The only reviews you get on this site now are one's that think it's the most fantastic piece of cinema they have ever seen or ones that just think it's a piece of shit. I mean, how much business are these two movies going to do, they are just your average bog-standard films, so why does this dude/chick/whatever Daffodil 11 just not say this!!!

I've been looking forward to 'In Her Shoes' 'cause of Curtis Hanson and because, well, the trailer looked interesting, and to know that Woody Allen has made a good movie again is cause for celebration. Now if Coppola's next film is any good...

Muriel's Wedding is one of the best films i have ever seen. Toni Collette's perfomance should of gotten her an Oscar that year. and THE ISLAND is underrated, you can tell by the international box office that Americans have poor taste in movies, eg FANTASTIC FOURS box office numbers.

if it weren't for the Abba soundtrack and all the Australians that kept on showing up everywhere. Has Perth over-ran Hollywood or something? It was made in Australia you say? Right...next you'll be saying they make movies in New Zealand or Luxembourg or something.

You obviously didn't understand the importance of 'the Abba soundtrack' and it was an Australian film, that was filmed on the east coast. Perth is in Western Australia. Seriously go fuck yourself you dickless fuck.

Overseas audiences open wide and swallow just as much garbage as US audiences. And if "In Her Shoes" is indeed a great movie, Hanson should shoot whoever made the trailer in the head. Looks like a chiched chick flick.

Run away from those Shoes

In Her Shoes is the chickiest chick flick that ever hatched. Run away! Even the admittedly good lead performances can't overcome the horribly overlong and absolutely predictable soap opera story, the shallow "life lessons" (it's better to be a nice person than a stupid bimbo, basically, is about how deep it gets), the grade-C musical score. And oh yeah, the foxy senior citizens, so original. Help! Poor Toni Collette, wasted in another dud Hollywood concoction. I happen to live in Philadelphia, where much of the film is set and where it sneak previewed last weekend. Jennifer Weiner (pronounced "Whiner"), the author of the chick-lit book on which the movie is based, lives here too and is becoming a local joke, thanks to her maniacally driven campaign to promote the movie adaptation. I fully expect her to hire skywriters, or maybe even call everyone in the Philly phonebook personally. Pathetic. Make it stop! Guys, seriously, you better love your GF/wife a whole heckuva lot before letting her drag you to this one.
