It seems as if they are starting to dig deep to get characters from the Marvel Universe. What about Giant Man???

I suppose there's a glimmer of hope if Edgar Wright is onboard. But do we really want an Ant-Man movie?

Ant-Man is Hank Pym, aka Giant Man. I think that it could be cool if they do this movie right, but once you make a comedic Ant-Man, it'd then be hard to utilize Giant Man in a future Avengers movie. Of course, they may be better off sticking with their bigger (no pun intended) heroes in an Avengers movie, and leaving Giant Man out of it altogether.
If Wright is directing it...than yes, yes we do.

I've loved the Marvel Universe all my life and this is EXACTLY the type of take on an Ant Man film we need. Jack Black in a Green Lantern comedy this is not. While I'd love to see Hal Jordan on the big screen...not in a comedy, thank you very much WB.

Marvel Enterprises -- oh, sorry, Marvel ENTERTAINMENT -- will find a way to screw this up. I'm sure we'll see an ANT-MAN movie (and a DEVIL DINOSAUR AND MOONBOY movie with the way they're carting out old, long-dead properties), but Wright will either jump ship or get kicked off once he starts making it good.
So how does sex work for Ant-man?
by antonphd
Sep 8th, 2005
03:45:03 AM
What if during sex he accidentally shrinks? Where would he wind up? Would he be floating in air. Stuck inside of... something? What if it takes him a moment to realize he shrunk and he goes big again before orienting himself? If he is inside... something... he could kill the other person. I don't want to see that happen in a movie. I don't think anyone does. So why are they forcing this on us. We ask for quality superhero movies and they give us this. Fucking suits. When are they going to learn to think before they act.

They were like The Thin Man's Nick & Nora. They'd bicker and banter, them beat-up some bizarre baddie, like the Kreature From Kosmos (who crawled out of a tv set, Ringu-style), or The Living Eraser (he didn't shoot people, he erased them...with an eraser).

On the Shaun Of The Dead/Spaced extras, you can tell Edgar's got some serious contact lense issues going on. He's the worlds most bleary eyed man. How's he even gonna see Antman? I have no idea who Antman is, but I dont want him to be trodden on by a weepy eyed Edgar late one night, that just doesn't seem fair now does it? For either of them. PS I so want the guy who directed Spaced - a fundemental part of my early teen years - become a bigshot Hollywood director. That would be truely beautiful. GO EDGAR! GO ON SON!!

why is it, Moriarty already knew about Edgar Wright having a shot at Ant-Man, but decided to wait until another website broke it before confirming he already knew??? WHAT A SCOOP! And anyways, an AICN Talkbacker broke this news two days ago after Moriarty decided to be vague with the knowledge he he has. Out of all the projects i've heard of Wright wanting/being attached to, this is my least keen. I'd rather he finishes up another Simon Pegg collaboration before attempting a "break (into) hollywood" movie. Hot Fuzz still sounds like a decent idea to me, Simon Pegg & Nick Frost as 70's coppers!

My love for all things Wright and Pegg is huge, so I hope that Edgar is not going to get involved with Marvel.....I'm sure their original ideas would be better than any license.....As mentioned by RealDoubleJ I also hope Hot Fuzz makes it to our screens soon...Still if an Ant-Man movie is going to be made I suppose comedy would be the best way to take it and i'd certainly sit through a movie with Pegg as Ant-Man...Actually sounds right up their street doesn't it? The trials and tribulations of a down trodden miniature superhero, finding it hard to make his impact on the hero world, whist trying to balance his lovelife and family at the same time.......I mean if Wright does get the go-ahead who else would he want for his hero?, I can't imagine him doing it without Pegg.......

I think Wright is such a talent I'd like to see him given a bigger property than Ant Man. Give him The Avengers or Iron Man or Deadpool. But if that's what he really wants, they hell yeah! Wright is one of the few directors that I think really have the sensibility and the chops for comic book flicks. I hope Simon Pegg gets a role.

This mass-murdering stupidity is then rewarded when she agrees to take him back. It never sat right with me. It wouldn't have taken much of a script tweak to put them in a position where they are forced to leave the safety of their flat and take refuge in the pub. Just imagine...if he had only remembered to book that table at the restaurant, she wouldn't have dumped him, he wouldn't have felt the need to try and prove himself, and they would all still be alive. Talk about your butterfly effect. I think too much about these things...

when you have The Incredible Shrinking Woman, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and every other fighting off the rats with matchsticks movie? Can this imagery ever be fresh or funny? On top of the fact that by the time this comes out Superhero comedies will be as burnt out as Gangsta Flicks in 2000. Maybe I'm not that imaginative, maybe I thought Shaun of the Dead was a grandiose fan film, but man after seeing the whole list of potential Marvel properties I don't think I need or want to see any movie ever again. Right now, good movies are only not as bad as the bad ones. Give them to some Thai or Japanese or Chinese filmmaker and at least they'll make something wierd out of it. Seriously, how funny can this be? Ant-man is stupid when presented seriously, it will be double-dumbass stupid when presented as a comedy. The jokes are obvious and lame as hell. Who wants to place a wager against me that Ant-man will fall into the cleavage of his love interest? Any takers? Doesn't matter now, they'll take it out of the script now that I revealed their one big gag, but I guarantee you it's in there right now. What else? OH NO ANT-MAN FELL INTO THE TOILET BOWL!!! Help me Ant-man, I lost my engagement ring down the storm drain!".....and comedy/adventure ensues? NOT! Who's going to be his enemy? Edgar Wright
by halfmadjesus
Sep 8th, 2005
01:01:47 PM
If Wright actually likes the character, then this might work, even as a comedy. I'd rather they took a shot at "light-hearted action/adventure" instead, just because going the full comedy route seems kind of obvious and not really all that interesting to me. More or less like making an Aquaman movie where the other heroes stand on shore and laugh at him for 120 minutes - you can only wring so much comedy out of the "I'm lame" premise. And it doesn't really do much to build that character up in the eyes of an audience, except maybe as a walking joke. For better or worse, Ant-Man was never a humor strip. It may be quaint, campy, outdated, possibly even ill-conceived, but it was played straight. Anyhow, the truth of the matter is that ALL superheroes are kind of ridiculous on the surface. The reason most fanboys disregard Ant-Man in favor of, say, Spider-Man, is because nothing interesting was ever done with Ant-Man. Stan Lee handed the strip over to his brother Larry Lieber early on, and Kirby's art was replaced by Don Heck's. No wonder Ant-Man wasn't a smash hit. It's not really the character's fault, though. And if the strip HAD been a hit in the 60's, and followed the pattern of getting his own book and so-on like all the other Marvel Silver Age heroes, then the fanboys here would be clamoring for Ant-Man: The Movie instead of making fun of it. It's that simple.

And no, I do not think a lot of screen time needs to be spent on the origin of Sandman or Venom. I think they will keep it simple and have them created by Harry who is putting together a villain team to defeat Spider-man. Spider-man 3, 3 villains, works for me.

by Ribbons
Sep 8th, 2005
01:31:39 PM
I'm sort of pissed at Hollywood. If there's any particular reason why superhero movies will get lame it's because a lot of people don't really respect the genre. Look at the "original" superhero entertainments that have been spawned since Marvel's boom: 'Sky High,' 'Zoom,' and now this, 'Henchmen vs. Sidekicks.' That's really the best they've got? Even your run-of-the-mill underwear-on-the-outside fare is more complicated than that. It's almost insulting; they're like stereotypes of superhero entertainment. It's probably why the genre's also basically a plug and play exercise as it is. Get people who are passionate about the source material or who connect to it in some way to take care of these things, and even if the end result isn't always great, it should at least be interesting. Well, that's not necessarily true either. But you know what I'm saying, dammit.

"Sources" are reporting that Edgar Wright is in talks to write and direct 'Ant-Man.' Firstly, "in talks" means that it's not official. Weren't any of you here when Moriarty had it on good information that Eric Bana was GOING TO BE James Bond? Maybe he didn't want to speak too soon again (and if he was wrong he'd probably get shit from some of the same assholes who are accusing him of sitting on info). Secondly, how do you know this is good information? Suppose that people have written that Edgar Wright would be a good choice for 'Ant-Man' elsewhere, for all you know the "scooper" could have read Moriarty's post, done a little looking around, and given the "scoop" based on other people's conjecture. So calm down. IF this is confirmed, then it'd make more sense to ask Moriarty for a response. As much as some of you love to hate the establishment, I don't think he was withholding a scoop just for the sake of being coy.

FROM LATINOREVIEW DOT COM: It was recently announced that Marvel Entertainment has secured a $525 million loan package that will allow it to produce 10 films based on its comic book characters, specifically Captain America, the Avengers, Nick Fury, Black Panther, Cloak & Dagger, Dr. Strange, Hawkeye, Power Pack, Shang-Chi and Ant-Man. Paramount will distribute the films, which will carry a price tag somewhere between $50 million-$165 million each. Well today IGN FilmForce has learned that British filmmaker Edgar Wright is poised to direct Ant-Man. Wright apparently plans on making Ant-Man a comedy. Do we really REALLY need a Nick Fury movie?

does post-Avi Arad Marvel make the parties at the Playboy Mansion look like I'm making out with my grandma?

He's the only one I can picture making this movie a 'serious' comedy if they went that way... But, I would LOVE to see it as a throw back to the INCREDIBLE SHINKING MAN style horror flick turned heroic-tragedy...

So let's say the report is right...WHO CARES!??!! Shaun of the Dead is one of the most overrated flicks ever made. It's got such a big reception from the US as part of their 'Oh aren't the Brits so cute when dey be making films' program. That's a great book and one of the few good old B/W scifi movies that wasn't cheesy, but good science fiction. It's a great story that could easily be made with today's special effects.

Starring Seann William Scott as TINY BOYFRIEND, which does exactly what it says on the tin -- the ludicrously daft premise involves a self-absorbed young man
