Alot of people hate this guy because they feel like he ruined Daredevil and i can agree,Daredevil was flawed on alot of levels begining with the suit, but i feel like he was going for the same idea that Batman Begins had trying to base things in reality, but he gave up on that one after about ten minutes and let all kinds of cgi shit hit the fan.I liked the tone of Daredevil and the directors cut was a better movie. I'm just praying to God he pulls this one off because GR is one of my all time favorites. He did one thing right in casting the female lead,my God what a fine ass woman.
Ghost Rider In The West, How Cool Is That?

I always liked Ghost Rider going down those long stretches of road, skull blazing in the dark. So setting it out west works really well. There was also one comic where he fought a shark. That would be cool if they had that in a movie. Probably won't be in this one though.

It works as an image of how the average hollywood film just has to overexplain everything. I would love this movie to work, but everything so far seems to work against it: the crappiness daredevil, nic cage's headpiece, nic cage in general, and the skull picture didn't do anything for me. God, listen to me, I've become a hater! Sorry. Hope I'm wrong about the film. Oh, the western-angle could be cool.

My God, after reading how much of a hard on there was when interviewing the LOST star I thought for sure I would be getting some hot insight into Mendes. Man what a disappointing interview. I guess it would have been better if Eva was a generic looking, very thin, blonde. Maybe then she would have been engaged more. Despite her incredible overbite, Eva Mendes is clearly ONE of the most attractive women on the screen right now. It is beyond me how many of you think that Maggie Grace is all that hot. Ghost Rider is my #3 all-time favorite comic book character. I grew up in an outlaw biker family. Evil Knievel was one of my heroes. When I was a kid reading the Johnny Blaze series, there was a connection there like some kids must have had with the early Spider-Man comics. So I really want a good movie with him. BUT, I'm really expecting a stinker. 1) I HATE Nicholas Cage (as an actor - he may be a really great guy off-screen for all I know). I can't enjoy a movie that he's in because the whole time I'm watching it, all I can think about is "Man, I hate Nicholas Cage." 2) This is the man who gave us Daredevil? I'm not even a big Daredevil fan so I didn't have a lot of preconceived notions of what a Daredevil movie should be before watching it. And it STANK. Worst comic book based movie I've ever seen (except maybe Batman & Robin). With a really bad writer/director and a really bad lead actor, I just don't see how an enjoyable movie can come out of this.

What bugs me is how it seem that Marvel will give their properties over to any hack out there. Apparently they aren't concerned with making a good movie. Daredevil failed to be good on every level - ludicrous story, confusing battle scenes, zero chemistry between Affleck and Garner, etc. Tim Story's FF was terrible as well, sure it makes money, but it does so at the expense of the properties' integrity. Punisher also sucked as did Man-Thing. If you're a fan of the comics or even just a fan of a decent movie - Avi Arad is dangerous.

I never saw Daredevil, because I hate Ben (no)Affect. I love the GR comic, but I'll admit that I only read the Danny Ketch stuff. That could be in GR's favor. It may have the "Blade effect", where people know that character, but haven't really read too much, so the film could be fun. The key to getting people into these movies is casting a hot chick, that's why Fantastic Four did so well. Fan boys don't really care about the source material as long as they got a rack to watch, even PG-13 ones. Marvel needs to figure that out and quit wasting time trying to work on scripts. There's no excuse why they can't put out these movies faster, no shortage of hot chicks last time I checked.

I actually thought he did a pretty good job. His "I'm not the bad guy" scene hit home and I bought his anger, isolation and angst. I liked the Hell's Kitchen material and boy Matt. Favreau was great as Foggy. I didn't mind the bad guys, even Farrell's over the top Bullseye (except where was the costume he so badly wanted?). Besides some of the crappy CG, due to budget, my biggest problem with the film was Jennifer Garner as Elektra. At least the director's cut got rid of the love scene. First, she looks absolutely nothing like the comic book (and I'd argue in this case, that her look is important to the character). In most cases, the movies have tried to mix up the typical white girl stuff from Marvel, as Mendes' casting demonstrates (though I think the one time the character should have stayed an All-American Blonde is Sue Storm, but that's another issue). In Garner's case, they removed any kind of exoticism and appeal the character might have had - and I simply did not believe that this cheerleader would turn into a cold-blooded assassin or that Matt would fall for her. The Coolio subplot from the director's cut was way better than the Electra story, because at least Matt was fighting for the underdog, his raison d'etre. They were obviously going for the Alias fanbase when they cast Garner, but it didn't work. And I'm sure it worked even less in her own movie (which I still haven't seen). Who SHOULD have played Electra? My vote was for Zuleikha Robinson, from Lone Gunmen and Hidalgo. She would have been perfect, with both the look and the dark stuff. Then again, maybe instead of doing a spinoff film, they should have saved her for a sequel. Seems like sometimes when the superhero flix want to throw too much in the mix, it all gets watered down. Overall, I thought Daredevil was a fine, if ultimately flawed, attempt and I still enjoy it.

Daredevil did not generate the revue that it was expected to do by any one standards. It also received a great deal of criticism from movie critics and viewers alike. If you add the cost of marketing, the salaries of those involved in the film, and other Hollywood cost, I think everyone would agree that the movie was not the money maker everyone in Marvel or the studio expected. I Agree, They Nead To Cast The Female Leads First
by Spooge McDuck
Aug 9th, 2005

The only exceptions would be with Batman or Superman, since a lot of people know who they are. For the second string Marvel comics, they should cast the female and then cast someone who will work well with her. Right now they're doing it backwards. The formula only works with comics where the male is the hero though (not like Catwoman or Elektra). The appeal of the comics is that the hero is going to hook up with the hot chick, so the chick should be really hot.

I don't think anyone would've minded the movie if they would've just had a sexier actress. They had nothing to work with in the trailers, so of course no one showed up. And the Hulk even had a TV show. What they need to do, when they decide to make The Punisher or something, is first figure out how to get a sexy woman in the script that Castle can hook up with. Then cast that part FIRST. I agree, we could see a lot more comic book movies if Marvel would get its head out of its ass.

That was why people saw both films and weren't too upset by any changes. You'd think Hollywood would be able to figure that out, but it seems only certain directors really get what we fans want to see. I hear one of the first things the new X-Men director did though, was add a mutant hooker, so he seems to be someone who understands comic book movies at least. Of course if they cast someone unsexy and just call her a hooker, they won't be fooling anyone. Still, it seems the X-Men movies are still on track.

One where they have a chance to cast a lot of hot chicks, how cool would that be? Then instead of one girlfriend, the hero could have several chicks he hooks up with in the movie. The Flash would be a good one for this. Cast three hot actresses, then the Flash, and that movie would make more than any comic movie except a Superman, Batman or Spiderman. You could even have a scene where he has to be on two, or even three dates at once, so he uses his super speed to get between them. That would be too funny.

In fact, I like him a lot better as Murdock than I do Maguire for Peter Parker. Despite what you might think of him as a person, I think he worked. Garner didn't. And I do hope these posts about casting hot actresses in comic book films is being sarcastic. Write the script first then cast the actor who fits, the way Joss is doing with Wonder Woman (I can just hear the Joss haters scurrying out of the woodwork). Not the other way around.

"Honeslty, Does Anyone Really Have A Deep Personal Connection With GHOST RIDER?" Actually, yeah I do. Well, about as "deep" and "personal" of a connection someone can have with a comic book character. I actually explained that a few posts above yours, but I'll repeat here. I grew up in an outlaw biker environment. My dad was in a motorcycle gang, there were always tons of bikes at our house every weekend, I pretended my bicycle was a Harley, etc. Additionally, one of my childhood heroes was Evel Knievel. I was always setting up ramps and even convinced several of my friends to lay down and let me jump over them on my bicycle (I still remember looking down at their faces as I went over them). And, like most kids, I loved comic books. So I was drawn to Johnny Blaze and Ghost Rider. Unlike any other comic book character, Johnny looked like the guys that partied at my house every weekend! He rode a Harley! He was a stunt motorcycle rider! In a travelling carnival! There was nothing cooler than that to me as a child. Plus, the book scared the crap out of me sometimes. The last page of one issue had this huge hourglass and it was full of people instead of sand - that creeped me out so much and I loved every minute of it. Then, about the time the "Jesus" figure was introduced, my parents met Christ. So, although Spider-Man was my #1 favorite, no comic book at that time really affected me and drew me into it like Ghost Rider did. I realize I'm probably the only person on the planet who feels a "deep personal connection" to Ghost Rider. But you asked.

wow! thanks for sharing, man. that's a really great story / defense of the character, actually. and i can tell / understand why you really care about the character. i guess that's what i meant in terms of a "deep personal connection." like as a kid, other heros or stories resonated with me for whatever reason. and i think that sort of resonance and personal connection to certain stories and chracters is why comics (and genre entertainments in general) are such a cool medium. i didn't mean to knock Ghost Rider, i liked him as a kid too, but i don't have the same nostalgia connection to it. like i always thought of him as a cool looking character, but i didn't internalize his narrative so much, if you know what i mean. not like Spiderman or XMen (or old school 70s anime/manga like Star Blazers/Yamato and Harlock and GE 999). anyway, now i know that there are people who are GR officianados. i just thought the naysaying was more bitching for the sake of bitching... anyways, cheers, mate
