Because thats when we'll have some great films.Personally a remake shouldnt be made unless it can be improved(Cronenberg)or taken in a totally different direction(Carpenter). So in 50 years when Hollywood is running out of ideas thats assuming of course that they go through some great Rennesance in the next decade. Then theyll look back at all the remakes and realize that they were subpar films and remake them into great films. So when Im 80 Ill have a bunch of great remakes of remakes to check out with my senior pass...peace

Wasn't John Carpenter's name once attached to this project? Considering the amazing job he did in remaking The Thing (a genuine classic), I don't think there is anyone more qualified for the job. Just compare Brett Ratner's filmography with that of Mr. Carpenter. No contest.

by Mel Garga

The man inside the original creature's suit was a local lifeguard recruited because the actor hired couldn't swim for shit. The lifeguard did the film and some sequels and apparently went on to a hearty little career as a stuntman. The film was shot at the source of the Wakulla River outside Tallahassee because of its great visibility. The river also served as the exotic African landscape for the orignal Weismueller [sic] Tarzan films, as well as the exterior fuselage shots for Airport '72 or whatever it was called. And yes - I'm bored.

Remake the Creature. That is sacred in the way KONG is sacred. Do not remake it unless you really have the vision, commitment and belief in the project. Oh, and please get a decent Director. My fear is that this is going to be a campy CGI Crapfest and I just know that is what they are going to do. For Gods sake, PLEASE bring in Stan Winston on this and use as little CGI as humanly possible. Oh, and put Jennifer Connely in the female lead. This has gotta hinge on good direction and an absolutley iconic Creature design. Please get it right. Anything that resembles the Stephen Sommers Mummy films are exactly what NOT to do when updating your classic monsters. You still have Frankenstien, Dracula and the Wolfman left unscarred by recent bad remakes. Follow the KONG that Jackson is doing and do it right and they just may last another 40 years....

...Which makes total sense... But I like the idea of Gary Ross writing it, he obviously has a fondness for old-timey movies (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit), and he writes a decent screenplay. Brett Ratner, no. No, not at all. Not a big Del Toro fan, either... I'd honestly rather see Stephen Sommers direct it (I'm A Deep Rising fan). Or, I dunno, Gore Verbinski.

The original's already been ruined for me by a jazz band that gave the film a new soundtrack and tried do pull an MST3K. It was horrendous. And as far as remakes go, I don't mind what they do as long as no one touches Plan 9 until after I get a crack at it.

However, his pecker should also have spines, or fins, to make it more aqua-dynamically efficient, and also to make the blonde think she's died and gone to Heaven. It was his and someone else, but not Sayle's. It's based around an underwater MAYAN temple that the creature lived in...sort of like O'bannon's original Alien concept...It did seem to have a Thing feel to it, in the sense that they expedition crew were isolated and under attack...Crapenter left when Ivan Reitman got himself attatched and wanted to do The Creature From The BLACK Lagoon, (JC's emphasis), which was about a housing project built near the lagoon...this was also aorund the time Will Smith was going to be involved...luckily, Reitman lost all clout and was released from the deal.

Loved the Universal DVD release of all three flicks... they were a blast to watch, but there was a TON of down time between scenes in all three films, and way too many long, drawn-out scenes of the creature and others swimmming, swimming and swimming some more underwater... you could fast forward through whole chunks of all 3 films and not miss a bit of dialogue. Having watched CREATURE, REVENGE and WALKS AMONG US, I truly believe that the only way to knock the remake out of the park, you have to have condense each film into one act of a three act movie. First act: Discovery and capture of the Creature. Second act: Put him on display for the public, then watch as mayhem ensues. Third act: Creature is recaptured and experimented on, turning into a half man/half Gill Man. Really, what other way is there...?

For that matter, Psycho was remade shot-for-shot (maybe they thought there was an Oscar category for Most Pointless Exercise?), and then of course there's that movie with the chainsaws too.

They have the same title and basic premise but both of those films went in completely different directions from the original films they were based on. You wrote: "You still have Frankenstien, Dracula and the Wolfman left unscarred by recent bad remakes." ...I can only assume that you have not seen Van Helsing, or you have just repressed the memory of it to save your own sanity. Either case would be highly recommended, because Frank, Drac, and Wolfie were not just scarred by that crapfest, they were spat upon and left bleeding in the gutter. I only hope the Creature is going to avoid the same fate as his monsterous Universal brothers, because fading into obscurity would be preferrable to being "re-imagined" in some new, "Totally X-Treme", Poochie-from-The-Simpsons way... Lets get used to the fact that most of the good film ideas were already used in the 20th Century. For example, we are ALWAYS going to have Superman, Batman, and Spider-man movies every couple of decades, and we're ALWAYS going to have Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman movies every couple of decades. It's just a point of fact. Luckily some gifted filmmakers have been behind a lot of the remakes. The Fly and The Thing are both great examples. I think King Kong is certainly in the best hands possible. Peter Jackson is coming off the single greatest triumph in motion picture history, so he has the kind of clout to do King Kong as good as we could hope. As far as The Creature from the Black Lagoon goes, I think the idea is really limited, but with the right people behind it a monster movie can always be fun. It's too bad that Stephen Sommers did Van Helsing, because that is a really great concept on paper. Imagine any one of these directors behind the concept for Van Helsing: David Fincher, Peter Jackson, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg.
