Glad it's almost here. Seems to have been in development for a long time.

I got the chance to work with Pat on Spaced Invaders (doing post-prod FX) so I know what a great guy he is. I'm really hoping he gets a good break with this one - Spaced Invaders should have been a LOT bigger than it was. Shortly after SI came out, Pat was tapped to head up a live action version of Speed Racer, but that unfortunately fell through (it was then supposedly picked up by Richard Donner, but that fell though as well).
I feel like I've seen this before

For as much as people bash lucas for cashing in on his own creation, why is it so many people have no problem with other people riding the coat tails? I guess I'm just being pessimistic. I'm sure this film will be oh-so-cute!
Fuck you, INWOsuxRED

Why should Spaced Invaders have been a "LOT" bigger? It is horrible. It's too bad that Gary Kurtz didn't produce Return of the Jedi, because it would have been one hell of a lot better.
Jebus, I've seen less pretentiousness and self absorbtion at

As for Gary Kurtz making ROTJ better, what do you think a producer does, exactly?
Poor PRJ...

Yeah, there's a list of Patrick Read Johnson projects that "fell apart" for various reasons... and the list is longer than Lexington Steele's cock. Gee, I wonder why...

For someone that loves Star Wars so much, you sure don't know much about it. Gary Kurtz was almost as important as George Lucas in the creation of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. George Lucas' original script for Star Wars is horrible. It really is. In fact, it is so much like The Phantom Menace it is scary. The studio was interested in making SW with Lucas, but they wanted the script revised before they gave the green light. Lucas did revise it 4 times after all was said and done, and Kurtz was a big part of that. He helped focus Lucas, which is something nobody has done since. When Return of the Jedi was being discussed, Kurtz wanted to go the route that Lucas had originally intended (ROTJ was supposed to be quite a bit different), but George was already too powerful and could now do whatever he wanted. Kurtz and Lucas parted ways, and we got teddy bears, the ludicrous revelation that Luke and Leia are siblings, an uncool Han Solo etc... And then there's the Prequel Trilogy. The horrific result of a sequestered, eccentric, and unchecked or unchallenged George Lucas. Maybe you don't know much about the film industry, but a producer has a LOT to do with the creative aspects of a film. Unless he is a yesman like Rick McCallum. Here is an idea: Get educated on how a film is created and exactly what a producer does, and THEN come back and post.
