Everybody owes Lucas something - the film world would be one hell of a boring place right now, had he come along. Oh, And "firstman#01" - words fail me....

George has made a billion, trillion dollars now - does he really need famous people saying how wonderful he is? CARRIE FISHER: "Well, the first time I saw George he had bright, shining light emenating from behind him. I knew I was in the presence of a truly great man. Possibly a demi-god or something. No-one understood his movies but me at first, but then everyone caught on to what a genius he is. He's like Einstein. Or that one in the wheelchair who steals other scientist's ideas." I really, really HATE these things. Hollywood mutual masturbation.

I hate to be the bearer of such wonderful news, but the AFI Silver theater here in Washington, DC (Silver Springs, actually) is celebrating George Lucas by screening many of his little films at their wonderful Art Deco theater in July. And seriously, the AFI Silver Theater is just a sight to behold...after seeing "Crash" there 2 weeks ago I joined AFI just to add my support to such a wonderful theater/organization. The vintage 1933 Art Deco theater is just amazing to sit in, let alone take in some of the best films of the past century. The AFI film series are hands down the best (however, I wish they would have shown "Failsafe" as part of last month's tribute to Henry Fonda, but you can't always get what you want, I guess). Anyway, in July they will be screening ANH, TESB & ROTJ back-to-back on July 2nd & 3rd, TPM & AOTC on July 1st & 4th. The week of July 8-14 they will be screening the three Indian Jones movies, however, they will not be shown sequentially (rats!) THX-1138 & American Grafitti will also be shown as part of this series. Just thought I'd let y'all know how cool it is to be in DC and, at this moment anyway, how cool it is to be me (an AFI member!). So make your vacation plans now to be in Silver Springs, Maryland, for the big show. www.cinematreasures.org and look up AFI Silver....and weep.

I loved the confused looks on everyone's faces when they announced William Shatner! Lucas may be the master of wooden dialogue, but he's also the master of brilliant visuals (which to him is really the main point anyway). Congrats, Mr. Lucas!

To those who diss Lucas for what he has done, be it Howard the Duck, Willow, or Star Wars, he owns you. You will never have the right to cry and complain about what crap he has put out, why his material sucks in your points of view, blah blah...You stupid fucks won't ever amount to what he has accomplished. Unless, that is, you are a young flim maker who has ideas that will take film in a new and exciting direction. George Lucas created what Sci-Fi, action, and drama is today. The obvious contributions from him are special effects technology and the in-depth methods to create movies. Not even Steven Speilberg can say what he has done actually changed movie making like Lucas can. I am sick and tired of you people who have never had the right to bitch and moan about Lucas because you are NOTHING. He is the one trying to entertain you, and right now you idiots are entertaining me by acting like little spoiled brats. Live long and prosper Pinche Hotos. ___KNEEL___

Sure he's made some crappy movies, but "Star Wars" was/is amazing and the first Raiders was pretty good too. I enjoyed watching the tribute even though it was the man who made Greedo shoot first.

couldn't they get anyone more than this? you couldn't even get your prequel actors to show up! 1)Ford - came to try and get indiana jones made so that he can pay off his divorce. 2)Fisher - they sprinkled crack up to the podium 3)Hamill - free food and god knows he had nothing else to do. 4)Cameron and Jackson - payback for making them look good! 5)Howard - Opie wanted to gloat that there's another director who's more of a knob them him. 5)Hanks - shows up at everything on tv. he's a man whore. 6)Coppola - Spielberg made him come, luring him with thought of getting to talk about himself for another evening. 7)Duvall - can he even remember THX? nobody else does 8)Dreyfuss - isn't he dead?
I don't think the prequel actors were invited.

Jimmy Smitts was just there to park cars. Billy Dee Williams looked like a pimp. Harrison Ford was shitfaced. Lucas' kids are well fed. Shatner is God.

DENNY CRANE!!! Shatner was great, Harrison was as funny as ever. LOVED how he said "in the originals, the ones that were funny" or whatever, that was great. And you have to admit that Lucas has had a HUGE part in the technology of movies (Check out that branching tree in the Wired magazine he's on) and I also like how he said he went from not being able to write a single line to being the "King of wooden dialogue." Fun show.
Really needed the kids from South Park to show up.

He didn't do it alone. While he absolutely pushed film technology (mainly through financing it) into the 21st century, hundreds if not thousands of mostly anonymous people did a lot of the heavy lifting. I don't think he actually sat down and designed, EditDroid, THX, any 3D computer software, digital photography, etc. That was the work of countless engineers, computer scientist and artist. As much as it was an award to Lucas the man, I feel it's tribute to those who have brought his vision to the big screen.
