The trailer looked really good, and I think the focus on his origin will make things easier for naysayers or people that aren't all that keen on the idea of "superheros". Nice review. Daffodil 11 has incited my skepticism. Her use of phrases like, "if these two film are indicative of the remainder of the US summer season, we are in for one hell of a treat," and, "BATMAN BEGINS will surely be remembered as one of this year's most exciting and best blockbuster films," I'm thinking Daffodil 11 is either a shill, a robot, or some combination of both. I appreciate the fact Daffodil 11 is doing her best to please her industry overlord, but I think I'll wait for a real review.

"BATMAN BEGINS will surely be remembered as one of this year's most exciting and best blockbuster films." You know, I thought that the studios had learned how to make a planted review look real. Bad spelling, avoiding industry phrases and buzz words. But I guess I was wrong. Maybe they figure they shouldn't bother hiding it anymore, eh?

Evidence of plantlike behaviour - the mention that it's the PG-13 Batman that fans have always wanted to see, the reassurance about the all-terrain Batmobile and the so far unimpressive-looking Scarecrow, the reassurance about Goyer (I mean, what the fuck WAS Blade 3??), the fact that it says 'the less you know about the plot the better', the marketing talk at the beginning saying that BB and Episode 3 are two summer big-hitters. It's a fact that people act like sheep when it comes to movies. Being burned twice by the Phantom Menace and AOTC doesn't stop people seeing Episode 3 once Lucasfilm's marketing campaign kicks in. If someone tells you this movie is a big hitter then it makes you think you've got to see it or feel left out. Anyway, I am looking forward to Batman Begins, but it's still a shit title, as is Superman Returns.

Obviously not or you'd never ask such a ridiculously stupid question. Wonder Woman is uberfuckinghotness, mang. Maybe I'm just too partial to the Burton films, but I'm trying to look forward to this film and hope it does good, but at the same time, I feel like I want it to not be as great as some bat-fans swear it'll be(without the benefit of, you know, SEEING IT!). Maybe Batman's just been done so many times in live action, I've ceased to care whether or not a new film could be better than what's come before. But as far this review, it does have a lot of red flags, the hyperbole and the industry buzzwords. And, I don't know about you, but when a review says, "the less you know about the plot, the better," that doesn't sit well with me! The review just reads too much like a fluff piece rather than a natural representation of the reviewers opinion of the film.

...a marketing major. Damn, I wish I had the courage to blow enough guys to get paid to write shit like that. These studios have no shame. They figure if even 25% of the people who read this shit buy into it that it'll be worth the cost of hiring clueless, souless salespeople to write fake "reviews" to submit to goofy movie web sites. The PG-13 movie we've been waiting for? I haven't been waiting for another Batman movie. It's been done, campy in the 60's, well done in the 80's and early 90's, badly in the mid 90's and horribly in 1997. I guarantee it's not going to have a better actor to play the role as Michael Keaton, a better director than Tim Burton, be as dark as Batman Returns, then again it won't be as shitty as Batman and Robin unless they really try. Nothing is going to top Star Wars, they should have scheduled a Christmas release. And sorry about the marketing major comment but you should be flattered, plant. A marketing major is still more intelligent than any Hollywood executive.

If you watch a lot of movie commericals these days, youll see "The best action film of the year" - Dark Horizons. And the thing is, its not Garth reccomending the film, its some random review. By using the name of the website, and a quick quote, they can attribute the pr theyre generating to being from the site rather than an individual. Anonymity finally has an upside for the studios. Now they can put "The best blockbuster of the SUmmer" - AintitCoolNews.

Having some flack make up a random name and send in a review like this only makes people scream "Plant!" It's actually kind of a negative buzz creator. Considering the fact that interns are free, I am really surprised on a project of this size that they don't have someone invest the time to create a permanent online persona to hang around various sites until they are "known", and THEN start sending in reviews. If the review said, "Hi, I'm Nicole21 and I just saw Batman," I might think "Hey, Nicole21 is an asshole, I don't like that guy," but I would NOT think "this is a plant". I would be more likely to accept as valid a review from someone whose talkback name I recognize. Unless that person is Moviemack, of course.

I suppose it'll make dough, but "Batman Begins" just seems tired to me. For what its worth, we already saw a lot of "origin" material on Bruce Wayne (falling down the well, encountering bats) in "Batman Forever," and we got his parents getting killed in the first one (by the Joker there, somebody else this time, yes?) So we're going to simply rehash that material one more time? Meanwhile, somebody made the decision to cast the villains with low wattage actors, so we end up with the best players and biggest names(Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman) in the supporting good-guy roles. The whole project seems unbalanced to me. Also, the promotion of Katie Holmes' romance with Tom Cruise smells of Hollywood hype, like somebody figures "Batman Begins" needs the help. We'll see. I'm worried that this is going to be the "For Your Eyes Only" of Batman movies -- no frills, no fun.

So this isn't the 'The long awaited PG-13 version fans have always desired'. And the reason for it being a plant is not just because it was a drooling gush of a review, there's plenty of those. The reasoning behind most concluding it was a plant are 1) This reads like a press release, using neutral language (no curses, obscene language) and peppered with industry phrases and buzzwords. 2) It's strangely obsessed with the financial aspect of this movie 3)There's nothing in this review that isn't found in the trailers, revealing only as much as the studio has already decided on 4) Lack of first-person reference or emotional reflection ('Nearly every AICN review has the word 'I' in at least every other sentence) and 5) It's fucking by someone naming themselves after a fucking plant. And there's no explanation of how this person came to see this movie, which reviewers almost always go into in detail. If the studio has begun audience screenings there would be a flood of other reviews at the same time, as always happens.

I think that Batman will be awesome, no doubt, but this review... something about seemed like it came off the desk of an executive at Warner Bros. It just sounds so fake; and it's no secret that the studios plant the hell out of this website because they know it's a major source of movie information. I'm not saying Harry or anyone that runs the website already knows this, but I'm sure that the studios email these "pre screening reviews" to get the ball rolling on positive word for the for the film.

I've been a B-man fan since I got a Mego Batman and Robin with removable masks for my 5th birthday. It was way long ago. I liked the Tim burton version quite a bit but loathed the shumacher crap. I cant believe the cast that they've assembled for this new film. I dont think it can really miss with that kind of talent involved. I think people that say it will suck just arent that fond of Batman to begin with. They also probably thought Ishtar was the best movie ever.

Back in the summer of 89'I stood outside the local General Cinema which no longer exists, and awaited for the first great blockbuster of that year. Pretty awesome since we were also getting the third and final installment of the Indiana Jones trilogy w/ Sean Connery as Jones Sr., Lethal Weapon 2 (before it got to kid friendly),The Abyss( an underwater Aliens), and Star Trek 5 (Kirk should have fallen and died from El Capitaine). It was purely a Batmanesque year. Tim Burton brought us a new vision of the most popular superhero next to Superman. Of course Jack stoll the show and Kim Basinger had more screen time than a damsell in distress should. The Batmobile was kickass, and the score by Elfman was fantastic. The sequel was highly anticipated, but it just didn't do much for me. Michelle Peifer as Catwoman was a fantasy come to life, but Christopher Walken looked out of place. I will not go into the last two movies for reasons other than they disgraced the image of the Dark Knight entirely. Nolan may have a hit on his hands and sure enough it will be something worthy of a new franchise. If that ten minute sneak peek after the season finale made us feel like going down a pole to the Batcave, then someone finally got it right. This could become the best comic book adaptation since last years Spiderman 2 and at least until we see Superman Returns.

It's a plant because of the WAY it's positive. But if you can't tell that from reading it, me pointing it out to you line-by-line isn't going to help. Go back, reread it, and after every paragraph ask yourself if it sounded like it came from a lucky pre-screening geek like us or a professsonal writer getting paid to write it (or more likely a board meeting).

The only thing, and i mean the only thing good about that particular movie was Christian Bale. That movie was so far off the mark it's craze inducing. One scene, ONE FUCKING SCENE that was in that piece of ungodly tripe was actually in the terrific, yet horribly disturbibg, book...and this reviewer mentions it as a high water mark of cinema. I can't wait for Batman Begins. I hope it's wonderful, it certianly looks good from the trailers and I believe they have made many choices in the proper direction with casting and Nolan at the helm. But the last thing I'm going off of is this person's review, if you can call it that. And who gives a shit if it is a plant or not. That seems to be the only thing anyone ever has to say on this site. If a movie gets a decent review it has to be from a plant. Plant, plant, plantplant plantplantplantppplantaaahhhhh hh! SHUT UP! So he likes bad movies. Great. Can't wait to throw myself into Batman Begins based on this joke of a review. If it's edited like The Bourne Supremecy than we are all fucked. How could anyone like that "I'm just not talented enough to choreograph a proper action scene" style of editing? You couldn't see whatt eh fuck was going on. Anyone who thinks it's a legitimate style used to convey the confusion of the action is a fool. It's a cop out for directors who can't direct. This site used to be film lovers, now it seems far more representative of the average Joe idiot "entertain me with loud stuff!" moviegoer. RIP quality film. Fucking sad and pathetic.

http://cgi1.usatoday.com/mchat /20050523003/tscript.htm Long Island, NY: Hello Scott - what is your final prediction of how much the third Star Wars film will make? Will it surpass the 1977 original? Besides Star Wars, which film will come in second for this summer? Thanks. Scott Bowles: Right now I'd say second place will be a battle between 'War of the Worlds' and 'King Kong.' I saw 'Batman' last week, and that movie certainly delivers. But I think it's too dark and geared toward comic devotees to challenge for No. 2. JoBlo posted a review sometime ago about some guy seeing the screening and loving it, BatmanOnFilm had one aswell, now theres one on here, and this guy from USA today liked it, so far all the haters can eat dick until they find a negative review.

spot on, the editing of Bourne and so many others isn't just the lazy directors lack of ability to film a fight scene properly, it's the lazy fight choreographers who beleive wire work is the end-all-be-all in creating a fight and actors and actresses who shouldn't be allowed to do a fight scene for any reason. Stupid shite like Chalie's Angels craptaculr fights are the result. It ain't funny, it's crap. Christ the ending fight of Bowfinger is more realisitic. The Cartoon GI Joe had better fights than this crap. Batman needs to fight like a man, not a damn Circ de Sole acrobat.

FUCK IT why not just hire Rodriguez?".....Dude, great fucking idea. That would make money hand over fist. But the movie Industry are so many light years out of touch they would never even think to do that. They are too busy throwing millions into Wonder woman, and Aquaman, and Elecktra 2, and sub Mariner...All sure things for box office bombs. The only way something like that would get made and succeed is if Robert Rodrigez, Quentin Tarantino, or Peter Jackson were to make it. And those three are pretty much booked for other projects.

In fact, people HATE negative ass people who hate everything. You're that guy at the party who invited himself.
I saw "Batman" last week...
by -guyinthebackrow
May 24th, 2005
08:24:24 PM
So, I saw this movie six days ago, wrote a review, and Harry didn't publish it... perhaps the review sucked... but... here it is... Harry, So, what did guyinthebackrow do on Wednesday night, you ask? Did he watch the new "Lost"? No. Did he see the Suns beat Houston? Nope. Did he see Lord Vader RIIIIISE? Naw. Then what the hell did guyinthebackrow do last night? I saw "Batman Begins". And, it totally rocks. It's scary, scary how much I loved this movie. It all starts with the black-and-white Warner Brothers logo... and then the drums... and then the bats. The film's theme is fear, how it controls people, how other people use it. The story is told in a kind of montage-y (not exactly a word) way. This is the whole story, Bruce Wayne's parents being shot right in front of him, Bruce wanting to seek vengeance against Joe Chill, and not getting to, and then Bruce learning to fight and then becoming Batman. Thus, there's a lot of story, so the show moves fast. The sound is amazing. Everything is turned up to 10. Punches sound like they hurt. The two shots that kill Bruce's parents are earsplitting (and that scene is fairly disturbing, no slow-motion this time, this is just boom-boom "my parents are dead"). What's good you ask? Everything. I loved it. I could spoil the film's couple of surprises... but don't we all know them already? Who's really the main bad guy? Who is Dr. Crane really working for? Getting back to the scary parts. I'll give you scary. The scarecrow's mask. You've seen it. You've seen it crawling with maggots, but you haven't seen it with a rotting bat coming out of its mouth. The only thing that isn't great (and this is usually a big thing for me) is the fighting. All of the fighting is heavily edited. It's hard to understand what's going on except that (for the most part) Bruce is beating someone's ass. The best fight is probably the first one in prison when Bruce takes on 5 (or 6) other inmates. But, the heavy editing of the fights works for me somehow... it's like this Batman uses one, maybe two moves and then he vanishes into the dark. What's great you ask? The actors. Bale, Oldman, Murphy, Neeson, Freeman, Wilkinson, Caine. The guys make this movie. Holmes has the unenviable job to play the romantic interest to a character who isn't supposed to have one. Batman doesn't have a Lois Lane. He doesn't have a Mary Jane. Batman has his costume and his villains and Alfred. That's it. What's brilliant, you ask? The ending and the setup for the sequel... Gordon is talking to Batman... he's telling him about escalation... about how the crooks out there are always trying to one-up the good-guys... about an armored car robbery... a double homicide... this new criminal likes theatrics... just like Batman... he left a calling card... a joker. I can't wait to see what's next, and the first one hasn't even come out yet.

"This movies was soooo good I practically ripped my cock off and beat myself over the head with it. Thank God I didn't though, because I squirted enough jizz on the ceiling that there are now stalactites in the theater! I swear I hit Christian Bale at the screening I was at and he smiled at me. That shows how much he loves the fans and takes this movie seriously. If I had missed this movie I would have killed myself, and I'm not even gay!" Thats all. "MOAN WHINE MOAN BLAH BLAH WAAH WAAH" ad infinitum is all I see on these talkbacks. No ones seen it yet and still uninformed conclusions are reached by sexually frustrated, simple minded pricks. You'll never EVER be satisfied. It strikes me that whenever a particular movie finally goes into production after much anticipation, hearsay and gossip, something thats maybe been looked forward to for years by movie-goers & fans alike, these same people want to see it fail. As if you've proved something to yourself?! To all those 'well informed' If your so smart why aren't you rich? submit a script, get in there and follow your ideal movie-world careers. You are obviously more adept at it than the current crop of film makers.

Batman will be better. I have no crystal ball but after reading both scripts I found Batman to have a better story and better character development. Episode III, after reading and seeing it, had no one that you cared about. There was no emotion, no feeling and horrible dialogue. Batman Begins is the complete opposite. You will care about Bruce and you'll understand him - and I'm sure the acting will be a lot better. The only thing wrong with Batman is that the masses will be bored with it, you'll hear complaints of "not enough action, not enough Batman, not enough gadgets and/or (everyone's favorite) not enough explosions). This movie is offers all of the above but it also includes a fair amount of character study and emotion - or as the masses will call "boring stuff".

Thirteen 13, on the subject of Anakin's turn...
by GEORGEFNLUCAS
May 25th, 2005
05:33:08 PM
I guess people these days don't actually *remember* movies they spew vitriol against for six years. In the first movie, the Jedi Council makes a point of spelling out that Anakin is too old and too afraid of losing his mother to be a Jedi. And the only reason he's actually trained is because Qui-Gon makes it a deathbed request. In the second movie, his obsession over losing his mother causes him to ignore his protection mandate and go search her out. And find her, dying. When she dies, he then exterminates every being in the Tusken Raider camp in vengeance. This is the beginning of his fall. Aboard Greivous' ship, he murders a defenseless Dooku at the command of Palpatine, another drop down the Dark Side ladder. Then, his visions of the future of his wife dying in childbirth cause those memories of loss and hatred to flow through him. His desire to prevent this loss cause him to grasp at any solution to the problem. But his fear of reprisal from the Council for his affair with Padme, and his fear of losing his relationship in the aftermath, cause Palpatine's offer to sound reasonable. In fact, I bet Anakin believed himself powerful enough to gain the information, then turn on the Emperor and destroy him. If anything in these first three movies, the only story that was told to complete satisfaction was Anakin's turn. In this one, Lucas made me feel like anyone could have gone down that path. Hell, to protect the ones I loved, I might be blinded enough to do anything to save them...Watch all three movies again, you'll see that his turn is agonizingly gradual, but specifically there.

Sometimes it's not a clear enough decision to make. Sometimes it is (for example: if you have the time, I recommend searching the archives for some "fan reviews" of 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'). Personally I think the guy who wrote it exhibits a lot of plant-like traits (conspicuous solitude, keeps harping on about the things he's afraid people won't like, "everybody was awesome and defined the role," ...the name, etc.). But at the same time, I don't really understand why anyone would dump a plant review of 'Batman Begins' onto AICN's doorstep. I think it's almost a given that most everybody that read this article planned on seeing the movie anyway, even moviemack, so who are they trying to sell? So I don't know. If it looks and smells like a plant, my advice is to just take the review with a grain of salt.

great. So is everyone. Maybe not Wilkinson. His Italian accent is a little much. Bale is really the standout. It's Batman's movie. This is the first time that I really thought that Bale might turn into a movie star. Oldman plays Gordon has a good man and an honest cop. He isn't cool, he's just a cop with a family. His first scene, where he tries to comfort Bruce (age 10 or 11) is nice. Oldman plays it soft, sensitive. And why did this article get taken off the main page?

Thanks for the input. I've had some worries about Wilkinson as Falcone. I think the article was taken off because everyone was calling it a 'plant'.
here's a question

was there anything from the "leaked" script that was changed for the film that you wish HAD NOT been changed?
Tom Wilkinson, as Falcone

That's a shame, because I generally loooove Tom Wilkinson. So someone else did see the movie, huh? Eenteresting.

Yeah, he posted his review in his first post of this thread. The press screening IS next Thursday. Jett (Batman On Film) mentioned this Thursday, saying he's seeing it in a week, and Mike Sampson at JoBlo also said he was seeing it in a week. Right now, there have been some press screenings ... http://www.thehotbutton.com/to day/hot.button/index.html - Movie City News
And, personally...

I may be treading into JDanielP territory here, but I would have just killed Rachel off. The only appeal she has as a character is a souvenir of the past that Wayne wants to save, "make Gotham safe for," whatver. Her dying is much more effective in reinforcing Batman's desolation than her just dumping him. Fuck that shit.
Unless that's not what they were going for.

Another question, if you stop by this deserted thread, it looks like they changed the first appearance of Batman (the encounter with Judge Phelan in his limo) ... can you drop a hint as to what they did now to "introduce" him?

followed closely by ROTS. Bale owns you. Christensen owns you. Lucas owns you. Wimmmer owns you. //*father voice from end of EQ* Father**: Lucas's job with EP1 and 2 was simple, to make you haters feel like you'd won. To make you feel safe. For years, I'd tried to infiltrate a pro-SW fanboy into the talkback, untill it hit me, in order to pass undetected into their midst, in order to be trusted by them, my provacateur would have to think, like them, would have to nitpick like them. A man who had the capacity to be a hater but didn't yet know it. **fanboy**: but we've never met! **Father**: no? (Morphs into Harry) Don't look so surprised fanb0y, why should Father be any more real than any other planted sycophantic reviewer? The real Father died, years ago, and the AICN Jedi Council simply elected me to continue his bloated monologue crappy review tradition. And you, fanb0y the supposed savior of fandom, are now its destroyer, and along with them, you've given me yourself. Come...cooly....entirely without incident. **fanb0y**: NOT WITHOUT INCIDENT...I'm coming for you
(Harry emailed me) Be careful fanb0y, you're treading on my drea

Is just a string of non-stop cameos? Didn't Jeph Loeb write that one too? You'd think he'd have gotten it out of his system by now...
