Yeah, there's about a thousand question we wished Quint had asked. And it would've been nice if he'd been able to retain a level-headed reporter's frame of mind to pose them, but his temporary amnesia was totally understandable. I'd be freaking out too. I still found the report interesting.

Glad you got to meet Spielberg, who wouldnt? Write it in your diary next time as this is far from any useful information. Aside from the type of cigar you like to smoke. What about some info on the actual movie? Did you get anything about that? Personally I'd rather spend my time reading a paragraph about a movie exclusive than what kind of fucking food was served.

I think that term should be reserved for when people are defending movies like the Star Wars prequels. You know, movies that we've been anticipating for quite some time and then ultimately get horrendously let down by...... I guess the reason I wasn't too peeved Quint didn't go charging in there like a trial lawyer and try to make Spielberg cough up everything he knows, is because I didn't have any expectations for this interview anyway. Could there have been more meat to the article? Of course. But again, I wasn't emotionally invested in it either way, hence my rage-free reaction...... I don't know. Maybe I should just set my bar higher for these things.
And the two parts thing probably exacerbated things...

I can see Quint is going to get a lot of criticism for this article. It just occurred to me how he really didn't help himself much by splitting the whole piece up in two. (Cliffhanger!) The first article people criticized for lack of content, but they were sated with the (implied) promise of an awesome content-filled part 2........ And then part 2 comes and it's kind of fluffy and seems to be missing dialogue that would be of any significance to someone other than the article writer..... Yeah, he probably should've just condensed the whole thing into 1 article. Reduce the backlash by a good 50%.

You know, every time I'm say visiting the set of King Kong, or you know, just flying to the other side of the world to pick up some groceries... whatever. You know, any time I happen to swing by there, I like to sit down on a hobbit, kick up my legs and burn one off. It's alot like how I like to have a glass of milk every time I go to Egypt with Harrison Ford, or how I get a massage when me and Tom Hanks go to the moon. Just one of those little rituals you have for your daily life. (just jerkin your chain quint)

Quint's Spielberg Article-Well Done
by towerman

I enjoyed Quint's article/interview with Steven Spielberg on the set of "War of the Worlds". I thought it was well written, to the point and insightful. It was one of the few articles on Ain't-it-Cool-News that I have enjoyed reading probably because it wasn't plagued with the usual gushing Fanboyisms i.e. bad spelling, grammar, punctuation, excessive use of the exclamation point and long winded paragraphs that side tracks the reader too far from the point of the article. While reading this article I felt that I was right there on the set with Quint and Mr. Spielberg. Good job Mr. Quint. It's no wonder that Paramount allowed you on the set.

Are you seriously upset with Quint over this article? It's a fan site, written by fans about the films and filmmakers they love and admire. If you think AICN isn't the appropriate place for an article like this, where would it be? As someone who's been a fan of Spielberg and his films since an early age, an article describing Quint's experience of meeting him is actually of great interest. If you want journalism, then go and buy an issue of Premiere or Variety.

SPIELBERG'S ASSISTANT: Sir, another pest wants to come to the set tomorrow and, no doubt, meet you. SPIELBERG: What magazine? "Newsweek" again? SA: Uh... it's an online mag... something named "Is This Cool or What!", if I recall correctly. S: I think I heard the name from Frank Darabont. Okay, let him in. Do you know who it's going to be? SA: Yes, sir. S: All right, tell the cast, too, and have some of those tacky souvenirs and promos ready. Oh, and have a look at that website of his, see what he types there - just generally, of course; don't actually bother to _read_ the details, hah! SA: Heh, heh. S: ...and prepare me a short summary, so I can feed him the usual yadda yadda about knowing and reading his column regularly and loving it... Hmm... he does have an own column there, right? SA: I suppose so, sir... I will check right away. S: Ah, I'm sure he does. They wouldn't send someone without a column here, would they? No, of course not. It's a safe assumption, I'm sure.

Michael Jeter would have been the best Calculus ever. Unfortunately the poor bastard had to go and die. As for Tintin, Jude Law is perfect. Simon Pegg -- although I love him to death -- only has the shape of his head speaking in his favor for the role of Tintin. Oh, and Gabriel Byrne IS Haddock. You know it to be true. DeNiro LOOKS like a shaved Haddock, but he's too big a name to fit comfortably in the role.

I'll bet Quint is feeling like a million bucks reading some of these talkback posts. All these posts that are absolutely ENRAGED because Quint didn't get more detailed information from Spielberg about WOTW and his other film projects kind of baffle me. Why? Because the majority of talkback posts for pretty much every Spielberg article are about what a bloated talentless overrated hack he is. And every talkback about War of the Worlds thus far has been brimming full of posts stating how this movie is going to be worthless shit--people basically looking for any little excuse to condemn the thing ("No smoke?!? I new this was gonna suck!") and about how Tom Cruise is a horrible actor who should never be allowed on a film set ever again. I mean, really. There might be 1 positive/enthusiastic post among 10 poisonous ones........ Okay, fine then. But it makes one wonder, why do people suddenly care about this Spielberg guy and his latest soulless project so much that they're vehemently railing against Quint because he didn't get more info?

in a formal way, the conversation would have lasted 2 minutes, not 20. If you're Spielberg on the set waiting for the next shot to be set up and have time to meet the media, what would you rather do? A formal interview with the same questions you have refused to answer so far, or just shoot the shit with a fan? I was expecting a boring interview but was pleasantly suprised by the article. Yes, it does not offer much information. It is what it is: a fanboy's story of meeting his film idol. This was better than a fact-filled interview that you can get anywhere. This was a well written (rare around here) story with heart.

Yes, even though it says "ON THE SET OF WAR OF THE WORLDS" you still have no innate right to expect that it will actually be about what's happening on the set, or feature relevent or interesting comments from the filmmakers and actors on set, despite that the fucking article title leads one to expect that they won't be reading waffle and gushing...I bet that chains has similar expectations to most other things in life, and believes(for example) that just because a canned tin of food is labelled 'chicken in white sauce' it does not mean he has any innate right to expect that the tin will not be full of stinking inedible crap. But it's a reasonable fucking expectation, you brainless twat. That's the thing though. Quint and Harry aren't the type of "journalists" that you're referring to. If someone who writes for Rolling Stone wants to be hard-nosed, fine. I'm sure the studios would just as well not deal with them, but it's an part and parcel of the whole marketing process these days; the movie business depends on them to get the word out. Internet journalism makes up a fairly small, however vocal, demographic. On movies like these, ones that everyone wants to see, they don't need "us" to be pleased as punch. So Quint and other representatives of the online community basically have to be on their best behavior if they ever want to be invited back. And yes, I'm sure he was just a tad starstruck by Steven Spielberg. But what were the questions that you were looking for, exactly, that you think Quint could have gotten away with asking?

I think WillieWanker has a good point. This site is about news (and Harry's boner from time to time). And to be honest we did get some news from this report. But not nearly enough for someone who had prior knowledge beforehand that they were going to go to the set of WOTW. I can understand if he (Quint) bumped into Spielberg at the bar and they just shot the shit, but wasn't he invited to the set? Wouldn't that make you want to write some questions down on a piece of paper beforehand so you wouldn't just "geek" out. Granted the "news" had some entertaining items (refugees and tanks firing), but why do we still know so little about the movie? More was expected, at least from me. I know I would have at least said "Hey thanks for inviting me, big fan for a long time. DO you mind if I ask some questions about the movie?" or "Do you have anything to reveal that hasn't been reported?" If he says sorry can't reveal anything then hey, at least you tried. But most of the article just seemed like it lacked any sort of infoon WOTW.

It's either gonna be a good thing or a very bad thing that they're giving nothing away about WotW. They might not want people to have a downer on the movie before they even see it, due to the fact that the alien action is lame. I think that even if you read the script you'd be wondering where the aliens were. That thing about Spielberg keeping the tripods in the background and the characters in the foreground is going to be the unique element of this movie. But, before they actually see it, people are going to think that's a crap idea. They might think that Spielberg just wants to make a family drama with an alien invasion as a backdrop as an incentive (excuse) to get people to see it. Whatever, there isn't going to be much 'fun' in this movie. It's gonna be very intense.

...come across as either very young or horribly impatient. If you're old enough to recall, Spielberg hardly let any images of E.T. out before the movie opened, and certainly no moving images. The same tactic was used for Jurassic Park. As far as I'm concerned, if the payoff is as big in WotW as in those movies, he can go on not showing us diddly until opening night. You folks need to chill the fuck out and stop whining.

Don't ask me why, but I'm thinking "prequel" (not a word, but these days, who cares?) Who are Alice's parents? Why was Alice the chosen one? Also, what about Neil Jordan? what's he doing these days? can he shoot Knightly on wires in front of a greenscreen? Michael Clarke Duncan as Jabberwocky? Just thinking out loud.

"Alice in Wonderland." Starring Dakota Fanning. Written and directed by Leslie Bohem. Two movies. That's the news I've heard so far; it's probably Bohem's project which he brought to Spielberg, not a Spielberg project that's being shopped around, so if they swept him off of it and got some martial-arts director to do 'Kiera Knightley and the Kung-Fu Jailbait Fantasy,' that's news to me.

I like what I hear. Although the story itself may be wanting, the decision to shoot the aliens solely from humanity's P.O.V. is a good one. I don't agree that'd be the easy thing to work on craning shots of tripods, etc., but most people would be tempted to do so out of their own insecurity over not showing enough. I think that a glimpse of Tripod stomping through the trees could be much more effective.

I can not believe some of you dickless thugs actually took cheap shots at Dakota Fanning. What are you, seven years old? That little girl has more talent in her toe than all you flaming arsewipes combined. She's held her ground & more against Oscar winners like Denzel Washington, Robert DeNiro, Glenn Close & Kathy Bates fer christsake. Have any of you wankers? She's not some latter-day Drew Barrymore. And if none of that registers in your microbe sized brains, try this; she 11 years old, working with the best in her business ( twice with Spielberg). Are you?

Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. First of all, all I was saying was that this speculation is totally pointless since it's more than likely none of that's gonna happen. But since you quoted me like I was giving you an opinion, here you go: I think that a kung-fu version of Alice in Wonderland would be extremely bad. There is nothing in the original story of Alice that could be improved by turning it into an action movie cliche.

Wow. That was a really cool response. I was not expecting that. To be honest, I sort of skimmed the posts speculating about "Alice in Wonderland," because, well, it was rampant speculation. I'll have to go back and take a look at what you and others have said and decide whether or not it sounds cool. While not a severe Carroll purist, I do believe that something closer in tone to the books or even the Disney movie seems like a better fit for Alice. Then again, I believe Alice was about Kiera Knightley's age on that Disney Channel show "Adventures in Wonderland," which I rocked out to as a wee tyke, thankyouverymuch, so maybe little girls lost isn't the only way to go with the material. Then again, that show probably sucked. Wow, what a bitter, heartless, bastard I've become.

I read a very good book about films that for what ever reason havent been made and will probably never be made. Harry wrote the forward. It was called the greatest movies never made. one of the stories in it was the following. Speilberg has always been fascinated with outer space after making two of his greatest films back to back jaws and close encounters. Speilberg took a well earned break, one day two of spielberg's writers, Hal Barwood and Matthew Robbins who he worked with on Close encounters, approached him within an idea. The story was simple a group of aliens terrorise a farmhouse and the family inside and it was called Night Skies. There was one good alien but he got killed by one of the nasty aliens. Spielberg liked the idea very much, this was 1980 and he considered it a go picture to the extent that he hired Rick Baker to design the puppets of all the aliens. While on holiday in italy, Spielberg bumbed into Mellssa Mathieson, who was then married to harrison ford. They met for lunch where Melissa handed spieberg short story she was working on, it moved spielberg profoundly and they agreed that they would talk again in the US. Meanwhile, Spielberg got the name of a man called Carlo Rimbaldi and asked him of he could do a sketch for an alien. Meanwhile Rick Baker, whom Spielberg kept in the dark about the changing nature of the film, had made seven puppets. when Speilberg came back from his holiday he announced what would later become ET, would be his next movie. Rick baker was furious when Spielberg turned up at his studio but speilberg had some goons destroy bakers work and the next morning Baker discovered he was locked out of his own studio and only discovered all his work was destroyed when he eventually got in. Baker and Spielberg have never worked together since. But ET(the cutesy version) was the film that made spielberg the small films like, duel, jaws and sugerland express and after ET he founded Amblin entertainment. In the mid 90's Spielberg announced his intention to remake invaders from Mars but emmerich and devlin got there before him and made independence day. So this War of the Worlds film is the kind alien that he has been wanting to make for twenty but hasnt had the bottle to make, if you notice in the trailer he is doffing his cap to the following, War of the Worlds, Invaders from Mars, Aliens, Titanic and Night Skies, for which poor Rick Baker got locked out of his stuido.

In the beginning, Harry and this site were viewed with suspicion and hostility from within inside hollywood. Hollywood didnt like when Harry would break stories that they wanted to keep quiet or poor scorn on films like Rollerball, that utter disaster directed by John Mctiernan that Harry tore apart on this site and everyone else who saw the film did likewise. With Harry moving into prodcution and Moriarty becoming a film writer. One wonders are the days of this website numbered?

To answer cabron's question. He jumped up and down oprahs couch, then got down on one knee, go on the couch again, then prenteded to wrestle oprah. Then Oprah calmed the situation down and asked cruise if he loved Holmes cruise then jumped off the couch and screamed I love her, I love her before Laughing Manicially. We then cut to Holmes in the make up room who looks dumbfounded, worried and a little concerned at her so called boyfriends antics. Oprah: what about engagement Cruise: I will have to talk to her about this. Oprah: lets bring her out here, folks- KATIE HOLMES... Holmes wont come out of her dressing room. Cruise: Oprah, Ill go get her. Cruise literally starts to run around the studio looking for his girlfriend and holmes looks scared she runs back into her dressing and cruise literally dismantles operas video screen and practically pulls his so called girlfriend out to meet oprah. A week later then Tom did a week long access hollywood special where he talked about his career, and his beliefs and Brooke Shields. About two months ago on the set WOTW german paper Die Spiegel interviewed both Spielberg and cruise and what was astonishing was thw way in which Spielberg defended Cruise and vice versa. Seemingly the Shoa foundation, the berg's Holocaust project has been accused of being deliberatly misleading regarding history, Personally I think Spielberg should not make Vengence at all and he should stay away from that Munich olympic project and it this film could lead to a backlash against him.
