Couldn't watch this with sound because I'm at school but damn that looks great. I'm really excited by the chance to see Bruce's first night out, before he develops the batsuit, dressed in all black and a ski mask. That was one of the best parts on "Mask of the Phantasm". Also, I love the image of the bats fluttering all around him as he stands with his eyes closed...This is going to be THE movie this summer. Well, after Episode III.

...optimistic with each new promotional piece that comes out for this film. But we'll see if it actually delivers. I do hope they don't ever show the batsuit in full light. It looks very menacing in shadow, but the images I've seen where it's fully illuminated make it look a little silly. And there's really no reason for him to wear it in a brightly lit room, if you think about it.

Looks pretty cool. I don't hate the Batmobile quite as muc now anyway. I don't know about Bale though. He seems kind of goofy, like how he was in American Psycho when he wasn't killing people. But they didn't show enough of him to really make a judgement call. And do Morgan Freeman and Samuel L. Jackson have a bet on who can be in more movies than Michael Cain first?

but really I just want to see the film. Big deal there's a few new things, I'm more curious about the 90+ minutes we haven't seen. Trailers leave too many questions, like: Is the gun he holds from his parents murder or for retribution on the killer? Is there a single antagonist, or several and how do they fit in with the plot? Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I though Katie Holmes looked fine. Connolly would've looked hot, too, as would've Alba, but I'm happy with what I've seen from Holmes. She's not as wild a choice as Chris Nolan could've made, but I liked Holmes's work in "Wonder Boys," and "Pieces of April," and I think she's hot in her own way. I think she's meant to convey a sense of good-natured innocence in the film, which comes naturally to her, in my opinion, so I think she'll do a good job in the film.

It's called Beverly Hills Ninja II: Downs and Out. My complaint with the batsuit isn't so much about the design or the look, but the fact that the rubber bunches up at the joints, thus making it look like some cheap halloween outfit. You'd think they would have smoothed it out or something. Also, if they are going the way of sci-fi (at least decades before practical applications) with the electro-cape, they should have just had Batman wear liquid armor. Light, thin armor that hardens on impact making the wearer bullet-resistant if not bullet-proof. This is currently being developed just like the electro-cape. I do like the idea of actually featuring bats in this movie. I always thought they were severely underused and can be a great tool of fear and diversion. After all, there is a reason why he's called "The Batman"!

How in the hell were the other Batman movies more 'epic'? Epic tends to imply grand in scale... Debris FLYING at camera!!!
by Ronny25
May 12th, 2005
06:40:31 PM
Okay, I do like the trailer. If it was any other superhero movie, I'd just think that it looked interesting. With the last 3 Batman films totally sucking, it is nice to see a different take on the character. I'm looking forward to it, but I won't be the first in line. NOW... about the explosion debris flying out of the temple towards the end of the trailer - I am so damn sick of seeing that effect in almost any film that contains an explosion. It all seemed to start with the "Twister" trailer back in 1996 with CG debris flying at the camera. Now, it's used in everything and I have to admit that it's a total turn-off. I'm just tired of seeing the same old shit, aren't you? CG bats, CG explosions, CG everything! As much as I hate to admit this, films do suck a bit more because of this over-used technology. It's almost like the technology is compensating for a real lack of visual sense and, more importantly, a good story. Sorry, I'll try to be more upbeat when films aren't all looking the same (visually).
What the hell happened to the screen?

Oh. Blarneyman. Sigh. Anyway, I don't think CGI is necessarally overused. I think if there were no CGI they would try the same shots with conventional FX and it would look fake in a different way. Look at the original Batman for example. Those FX looked fake as hell and it was all stop motion and matte paintings. I think CGI is much maligned.

"How in the hell were the other Batman movies more 'epic'?" Have you see the original Batman lately? The scope of that film is ridiculous. The whol model city of Gotham. The music. It was beyond over the top. Then you have Batman forever, again, a grand spectacle, huge goofy city and batman 4? gay colorful world, massive sets. Thanks to this CGI world we live in, we know most of the effects were done on a home computer. So grandness of it all is gone. Sure it has some sets, but nothing like Batman Returns. The whole movie was filmed on massive sets. The other batman movies were made in more ambitious times for F/Xs, now you hit a button and you have effects.

So you're saying when BATMAN BEGINS defies your prediction and tears up the box office AND garners great reviews for Nolan and Bale that then you'll FINALLY admit you were wrong and have been bagging all over this movie for no reason at all? Doubtful, I'm sure -- but we'll all be here to remind you of your lame predictions later, Moviemack. Personally, I can't wait for this to open. Alongside SITH and WOTW, we're now guaranteed 3 great summer flicks to keep asses in a darkened theater munching our way through the big tub of corn. The new trailer is great and the movie will be, too. Give it a rest, Moviemack. Even from the fucking trailers you can tell Nolan delivered on this baby.

Here's my little grocery list of preferable actors. Jack Napier/The Joker: Lachy Hulme has been mentioned a lot on Batman-On-Film as the preferably Joker and I have to agree. He seems MUCH more menacing than fucking Crispin Glover! (I'll always see him as that stringy, yelping bitch who always got his ass whooped in the Charlie's Angel movies.) Harvey Dent/Two-Face: Clive Owen. This cast may seem a little uninspired to people but I believe he's proven himself to be a good enough actor to pull off the Harvey Dent side and still be a bit more of a badass, tragic and especially intimidating Two-Face than a Guy Pearce would. For the make-up it would be cool if they went along the lines of a Darkman look without ripping it off too much. It's more realistic sinces thats what they've been going for anyway. And NO two-sided suit. Just keep it simple. Dick Grayson/Robin (IF he should come along): Emile Hirsch. Seeing him in the Emperors Club he's always seemed like a Dick Grayson to me. Plus he's definately proven himself to be a genuine ACTOR instead of a self-absorbed, pretty face or 'it-boy' playing half-assed 'bad-boys' in teeny-bop slasher flicks. (GAAAAWD I hated House of Wax!) We don't need another Chris O'Donnell here. Robin should actually be a KID this time around and not some 'rebel' 25-year-old on a motorcycle. And no rubber body suit. His outfit should look nothing like Batman's. Maybe something along the lines of a Legalos from LOTR (I mean his outfit from the early days always did kind of resemble that of an elf. Thus the Legalos referance.) And one last thing. I hope they either kill off Katie Holmes or just not include her in the sequels. She's seemed to water down every piece of footage I've seen on this film with her flimsy, Dawson's Creek, 'the man I loved' bullshit acting. Besides which Bruce Wayne/Batman never really did have a 'one' true love in the comics outside of Catwoman herself. I hope she doesn't bring this movie down in any way. I'm out.

Such a yooj phan. Katie Holmes is hot and has a great body; so what if sometimes she looks like a little kid? She's supposed to be the girl next door. With a great body. Bale's fine - the lispy accent's goofy, but he's physically perfect and I buy him as sufficiently obtuse and outsider-ish to make the character psychologically believable. I'm glad WB did not go with Gyllenhaal. The suit will always sacrifice a bit of functionality for the "look"; the guy's supposed to resemble a bat, for chrissakes. The tech is cool, but it's much more practical to confine the electro-fabric concept to the cape; it's supposed to transform from something flexible that drapes and flutters dramatically into a rigid flying wing. Current technology takes care of the bulletproof aspects of the suit itself. The trailers are great; I love the fact that the teaser didn't even hint that it was a Batman movie until the last few seconds, and I love even more that the final trailers give nothing of the actual plot away (other than the standard, well-worn pre-Goyer mythic elements). I even like the earth-toned color pallette. Kudos to the WB for staying the fuck out of Nolan's way. I'm looking forward to June 15.

First of all, I wasn't commenting on your post. I was talking about the entire argument going on; i.e. "it's gonna suck" "it's gonna rule" And moviemack, I've seen the same promotional materials and trailers that you have. I think they've actually done a good job with the trailers in NOT releasing the entire plot of the movie, as so many trailers now tend to do. I didn't read the script because I chose not to. Same reason I tend to avoid reviews with too many spoilers. What's the point of seeing the film if you already know what's going to happen in it? Seems rather redundant. Now, I'm not talking about repeated viewings of something that you enjoy, but why take away the experience of actually seeing something new?

Well, I'll bet Harry and IGN fucking LOVED Magnolia. I didn't. Does that make me wrong? Nooooo. It's called an opinion, fuckwit. Nobody is telling your naive ass to shut the fuck up because you think Batman Begins looks good. Teaching critical thinking skills in public schools is HIGHLY underrated. You can enjoy rubber suits, stupid looking unBatmobile, eye makeup and Batman's girlfriend all you like. I or moviemack isn't telling you to shut the fuck and stop being so positive. Sure, when the movie comes out, we'll see who's right. But to call for a hiatus on all discussions of the merits of an upcoming film until it is released is just absolutely, completely and undeniably retarded. You might as well expect Harry to cease with all movie news in lieu of a reviews only site.

I agree with him and Mr Miracle regarding the recent footage. There's a whole lot of Goyer's script in those shots, I thought most of that crap was supposed to be purged? Someone at top said that this latest trailer should solidify how people feel about the film, he's right, I am now firmly embedded in the "meh" camp. I will give it to Nolan though, he sure is a capable director, but I got more thrills watching the "Grayson" fan trailer then anything I've seen from this production thus far.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOHHHHHHHH!!!! There! Dontcha feel GOOD?!? Is it all out of your system? All that fanboy "This-movie's-gonna-suck" hatred? Good. Hey moviemack, did you say, "See it or don't. Doesn't really matter."? Eh? That's kind of the point, isn't it? If you haven't seen it, YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT! You know damn well that there is a long list of movies where the promotional blitz (trailers, posters, etc.) and the actual movie sit at opposite ends of the Quality Scale. Real good trailer, crappy movie. Crappy trailer, real good movie. Hell, I've seen trailers where even the bits that worked in the trailer fell flat in the movie. So ultimately, it's the trailer that doesn't matter. You'll never know if the trailer truely represents the movie till you see it. And you WILL see it. Yes, that's right. One way or another this movie will get your dollar moviemack. Dispite all your belly-aching, you'll see it. If you don't see it in the theater, there's Blockbuster or Netflix. Even if you wait for HBO they'll still get you with that monthly cable bill. What's that? Not even HBO? Not a worry. Seven years from now you'll be surfing the cable channels on your X-BOX 720 (tm) and you'll run across Batman Begins on TBS-15. It's 11:30 pm and you're tired and you figure "Aw what the hell!" so you start watching it. 10 minutes into it they go to commercial and there you are, sitting in the middle of 12.1 THX 2 Hi-Def Sound in front of a 115 inch HD-TV screen watching that fucking CGI Geico (tm) gecko do the robot for a full 30 seconds. Now that my friend, is paying for it. Just go enjoy it at the movies instead.

I want to be excited about this film, but from all the trailers I've seen, this movie looks like a boring overcooked piece of dog shit. And when did Katie Holmes turn into a haggard dog? She used to be kinda cute. Shouldn't of made her the love interest. Hope it bombs. Big time. p.s. crappy batman films from Joel Schumacher and Christopher Nolan have made me appreciate what Tim Burton did with the first two films.

Did I say that your problems with the film were't in the trailers? No. Learn to read, tard. I just said that I was tired of your relentless bitching and I think you need to watch the damn movie before you go on ranting. I also think that your opinion is just shitty anyway, so whether or not you read the script doesn't matter to me at all. I was just tired of going back and forth with you since your ego is so big that it doesn't even matter. Unlike you, I don't spend my whole day bitching about movies that I haven't seen on the internet. Just count how many posts you have on this talkback alone compared to everyone else's. Damn you're pathetic. To quote Ice-T "You're a punk, your daddy's a punk, and your mamma's a bitch". I was going to put in my two cents on a neglected subject: Scarecrow and how happy I am that he's being stuffed by Ireland's very own Cillian Murphy, soon to be seen as a transvestite in Neil Jordan's Breakfast on Pluto, which was shooting at my local pub here in County Wicklow. He's fantastic and can wipe the floor with Colin 'eyebrows' Farrell and his highlights. Then I stumble over this insane moron Broncofan, who appears to spend most of his free time writing rubbish and getting booted off boards and then getting new handles and getting booted. Hs anybodt evetr had such a meaningless, pathetic existence? These boards are oceans of jabber, nobody reads them to learn anything. Broncofan, who sounds like a stalinist communist ('You are a disgrace to the party, you cowardly swine') spends his life shouting abuse into a black hole, usually off-topic. Oh and I'm gay too (as is Colin Farrell, rumour has it) and I'm celebrating ten years of monogamous fun with my American boyfriend this July. While Broncofan screams into the void, we spent the last three months in South America. Fuck him, everything he says reiterates his utter lack of anything resembling a life, sexual release or the presence of love between him and his parents when he was a baby.

Don't closet homosexuals make the most virlent homophobes. They get aroused by the idea of other men's cocks, so they fixate on anal sex, particularly poop, in vain efforts to keep their chubbies down, conveniently ignoring the fact that 75% of anal sex is practised between men and women and is also desegnated as 'sodomy' by the bible, along with blow-jobs (male-female) and cunnilingus (male-female). If you have any kind of a sex life worth boasting about, then you are off to hell. Of course, this doesn't apply to Broncoman, who is probably a lonely internet porn addict who has yanked himself sick five times already today.

Leviticus 20:13 states: "If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they should surely be put to death....". The passage is surrounded by prohibitions against incest, bestiality, adultery and intercourse during a woman's period. But this verse is the only one in the series which uses the religious term abomination; it seems also to be directed against temple prostitution. These passages are part of the Jewish Holiness Code which also: permits polygamy prohibits sexual intercourse when a woman has her period, bans tattoos prohibits eating rare meat bans wearing clothes that are made from a blend of textiles prohibits cross-breeding livestock bans sowing a field with mixed seed prohibits eating pigs, rabbits, or some forms of seafood requires Saturday to be reserved as the Sabbath Churches have abandoned the Holiness Code; it is no longer binding on modern-day Christians. They can wear tattoos, eat shrimp, wear polyester-cotton blends and engage in temple prostitution without violating this particular section of the Bible. Although this code is obsolete for Christians, many clergy still focus on those passages which deal with homosexuality.[1]

Skin flicks Los Angeles is fertile ground for a movie about race, as Crash proves. But a better film was made 32 years ago John Patterson Friday May 13, 2005 The Guardian Collision course: Matt Dillon and Thandie Newton in Crash The Flatlands, East LA, Chinatown, Koreatown, Thai Town, Little Tokyo, Little Armenia, Compton, Watts, South Central, Inglewood, Pico-Rivera, the Hollywood Hills, the Valley, Santa Monica, Venice. Unless you live in Los Angeles, these are merely place names. If you do live here, the names evoke something much darker than mere multicultural diversity: the patchwork mosaic of racial difference and division - produced over a century by a white-supremacist police force, aggressive gerrymandering, bone-deep institutional racism, and a real-estate culture long in thrall to the profits to be made from "white flight" - that has long made Los Angeles the most segregated and racially tense American city west of the Mississippi. Article continues ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------------------- ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -------------------- Some of this complexity is to be detected in Paul Haggis's new movie Crash, in which every single encounter between the members of a large and diverse cast is predicated on one form or another of racial resentment, hatred or misunderstanding. The DA and his supremely uptight wife (Brendan Fraser and Sandra Bullock, the latter quite splendid) are carjacked by two ghetto boys (Larenz Tate and rapper Ludacris). Ludacris asks why people in an all-white neighbourhood should be afraid of them, the only black people in sight. "Why aren't we the ones to be afraid?" he asks. "Because we have guns," is Tate's memorable retort, and the jacking is under way. Elsewhere Matt Dillon plays a racist cop who takes out his rage on a black TV director (Terrence Howard) and his light-skinned wife (Thandie Newton). Asians are all "Chinamen" to the carjackers, but a splenetic Korean woman threatens to "call immigration" on Jennifer Esposito's Puerto Rican detective, who's at odds with her lover, fellow cop Don Cheadle, for calling her "a white woman" and then "Mexican". Everyone's doing it, and it becomes wearying after a while, especially as almost every character finally undergoes a moment of clarity and attempts to mend his or her ways towards the end. Shallow points are made and remade, albeit often within beautifully written scenes of great dramatic power. In the end Haggis's dependence on a worldview exclusively, almost neurotically, defined by race begins to undermine all his points. There was relief from all this to be found this week in a rare showing of Killer of Sheep, a movie made and shot entirely within Watts during the early 1970s by black director Charles Burnett. This is one of the most famous and well regarded of American "lost" movies - I've only ever seen it twice, 20 years apart - and it's never been properly released, as Burnett was unable to license his amazing soundtrack of gospel, R&B and soul classics. Burnett was a film student at UCLA during the 1970s, and he made Killer of Sheep on weekends throughout 1972-3. He adapted the principles of Italian neo-realism to depict the neighbourhood he grew up in, casting amateurs and children, shooting in real places and seeking to make the film look as improvised and unscripted as possible, even though every shot was heavily predetermined. Never was a foreign filmic style so successfully redeployed as here: Watts in the years after the 1965 uprising was a field of rubble beset by the bitterest kind of poverty - all the result of the federal policy known, grotesquely, as "Benign Neglect". His Watts looks uncannily like parts of Berlin or Rome in Germany: Year Zero or Rome: Open City, destroyed already or on the verge of breaking down entirely. Because its cast is all black, there is little in the movie about racism per se. Burnett merely observes, in his profoundly poetic manner, the consequences of being left behind, the factories gone, the black family undermined by poverty and a brutal environment. Stan, the title character, works in a slaughterhouse and Burnett subtly links the fate of the sheep he kills with the destiny of the people he lives among. Thom Anderson, who uses Killer of Sheep as the emotional and political climax of his essay-film Los Angeles Plays Itself, rightly speaks of the "incremental genocide of America's surplus former slave population" as the movie's real theme. But its other theme, and one missing from Crash, is of stoic endurance as the anteroom to possible transcendence, and of the importance of tiny moments of happiness. Viewers will not soon forget the marvellous shot of children, seen from below, as they leap gracefully from the roof of one apartment building to another, or the shot of Stan dancing with his sexually frustrated wife as Dinah Washington sings This Bitter Earth. Burnett's combination of the raw and the tender summons Terence Davies to mind, or the overrated David Gordon Green, whose reputation will, I hope, deflate once his fans see how much he stole from Killer of Sheep for his George Washington. This may happen soon, as Milestone Video is clearing the disputed music rights to facilitate a DVD release. Killer of Sheep would look good on a double-bill with Crash - as a deeply felt, pre-emptive retort to its simplistic race-based worldview and as a supremely moving piece of homemade African-American cinematic poetry.

...but it does sound like the kind of thing that might happen around here. Our local priests are a decent bunch, the one who named me has known about my sexuality for years and has always been a perfect gentleman. Oddly, though the Church is ever more conservative, individual priests can be quite maverick in their attitudes to women, gays and contraception. Just don't tell the bishop. there's really no grassroots opposition to gay union in Ireland, either from the Church or from society at large. And they're not ALL paedos, not like this bunch: http://www.armchairsubversive. com/ Anyway, back to the Bat, isn't Gary Oldman supposed to be in this as well? Another snake-eyed psycho-genius, Murphy, Bale and he make quite a nice trio. Did you notice, in that harru Potter movie, that Cuaron had engineered a Mike Leigh reunion? I hadn't seen Gary Oldman, David Thewlis and Timothy Spall together for twenty years. Nice.

*raising voice slightly* Do you think that Vincent Gallo would actually get off his high horse long enough to participate in anything as relentlessly bourgoise as a BATMAN movie? He was pretty cool when his Brown Bunny film got slammed to smithereens and I think he may indeed be that most rare of combinations; a bundle of real talent almost insane with ambition. I guess at least someone has to be American in these films. Otherwise I'd push Michael Sheen for the young Joker. Sheen (not Martin) was the vampire bad guy in the dreadful Underworld with Kate Beckinsale. He's a thin, transparent genius with eyes like Margaret Thatcher. Played a wonedrful caligula, an amazing Tony Blair and the best Hamlet of my lifetime so far.

The thiong about Michael Sheen, apart from possibly being the best classical actor of his generation, is that he barely needs make-up to play the joker, apart from the huge, apparently lidless eyes and the translucent skin, his head actually tapers dramatically towards his pointed chin and his over-sculpted little girl's mouth has an nasty habit of cracking open into a wide sharkish grin, a wall of slightly stained English teeth. And he's exactly the right age, about ten years older than Bale. Here's an appropriate photo http://www.portal.telegraph.co .uk/arts/graphics/2003/05/02/l ig.jpg

Night falls along a dark city street, and man sits in his office after hours posting to AICN. Internet bad guys send barrage after barrage of angry, "you suck!" sentiment his way, but as clouds roll in over the city and it starts to rain, the man in the dark city office takes on all comers, swinging his verbal blows and lances until the bad guys give up and go to bed, signing off for the night. At 3 am, having defeated his enemies, the man stands and peers into a mirror hanging on his office wall. He approaches his reflection quietly, oozing dark stealth, until his face is backlit by lights along the street outside. He turns suddenly, gazing out upon the city, and says, "I'm Moviemack."

Didn't get on the site yesterday, came back, checked this article to see if anyone had anything interesting to say. Of course not. Just the usual. More trolling. More flaming. More increasingly tired and unfunny political tirades and the nonstop rants of pathetic self-hating losers who have lost the ability to truly enjoy and feel positive about anything. I had to skip every other post just to find anything reading at all. There's no actual discussion here anymore. No logical debate. No sharing of ideas. Just a buch of fat sad losers masturbating onto their keyboards. If Harry has any balls, he'll shut this ufkcing shithole down on May 19 after it's reason for being is finally released, and you can all go back to the crumbling shambles of what used to be your lives. *** By the way, to stay somewhat on topic, I quite liked this latest trailer. This movie looks to live up to the promise of its cast, its writer and its director, and seems to reverse many of the sins of the past four films. I hope this franchise gets turned around, because the potential is there for a great series. I was firmly in the Crispin Glover camp, but ever since someone brought up Ed Norton, that all I can picture. They should stick to casting actors who seem to fit the part and can actually act. And Norton hasn't been doing anything of note lately, so he may jump at the chance to play such an iconic character.

1. It's funny that a supporter of Bush should call his opponents fascists. Fascism is a system in which all are expected to agree with the government, supposedly for the good of all. Those who do not face social and legal penalties. Bush said, if you're not with us, you're with the enemies. That is fascism. 2. Bush's presidency was due 100% to the courts making law: The Supreme Court had NO authority in the case, and even if it did, four of the nine justices should have recused themselves because of monetary or direct political ties to Bush. 3. Prove God exists. Show your work. You have 15 minutes and may not refer to the Bible as a primary source. 4. If Heaven is reserved for people who "accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior," I'd rather hang out in Hell with the billions of charitable, wonderful non-Christians who were unjustly condemned by God.
