Thanks Sid N' Marty. You made such a big ass deal about doing the originals with real sci-fi authors, why would you piss on your own rep by doing this? Suck? Oh yeah, this one's gonna be so far beyond suck that the light of suck will take a million years to reach where this place will be residing. I suggest they listen to thier own commentary tracks on Season 1 LOTL, and re-think what they have done. Am I the only person who thinks Will Farrell sucks balls?

I really, REALLY hope you guys saying "they're raping my childhood" and "it'll never be as good as the T.V. show" are just pulling the TalkBack's collective leg. I was the World's Biggest Fan of this show as a kid, and I still love it, but let's be honest here... this was the second cheapest, cheesiest, incompetently produced show of all time (after "Sigmund the Sea Monster... well. okay. maybe third after that and "The Bugaloos"). If they spend even ten dollars on this movie it'd be an improvement... and if they go the usual Will Ferrell route and load it up with absurdity, ridiculous pratfalls and juvenile yuks, it could be a friggin' CLASSIC. Someone suggested Jimmy Woods as a Sleestak... cast him as Enok and I'll camp out in front of the theater, costumed in a plaid shirt and white-afro wig, to see this!
And by the way, when this is done, let's get to work on that "DA

The original show indeed did have camp, and it was quite funny at times, so they got plenty to lampoon...I hope however that movie retains some of the serious morality themes that it brought out...Especially some of the surreal undertones such as pylons, skylons, sleestak, magic portals...I also hope it includes some type of similarity in terms of the synthesized creepy music. I hope it is good because I am NOT a big Will Ferrel fan.

The production values may not have been the best due to a limited budget, but the quality of the stories always shone through. WF can not possibly play this straight, so it would suck. I am sure Harlan Ellison or David Brin won't be doing this script. A LOTL movie needs Jurassic Park-type treatment (meaning fx and script not story) NOT a Scooby Doo treatment. Blech. And for the idiot who said the early '90s version was okay-- you are on crack my friend.

What only a few talk backers seem to realize is, despite the 70's show's lack of production values, there was some intelligent sci-fi going on in that show. The ideas were clever (and badly executed) and have been ripped off aplenty over the years (mostly in alternate dimentionally themed stories and, well, TV's "Lost"). Some of those stories were way above the heads of the Saturday morning crowd that watched them, psychedelic and freaky at times. Plus you had to think. And they actually left things unexplained at the end of episodes. There might of even been TV's first mythology arc, as they hinted that this place where lost civilizations and people had gone were there for a purpose. I remember the Flying Dutchman episode was really weird: the seemingly reencarnated Holly Marshall meeting a eighteenth century version of herself. We remember the hoaky, cheesey sets and costumes, bad special effects and crazy fun theme song...but we forget (as do Sid & Marty Kroft) that this was originally a show about ideas done on a Saturday morning show budget.

Man...watching that re-make will be like being 9 years old again. Think they'll kick me out of the theater if I watch it in my underwear with a bowl of Cap'n Crunch in my lap? Let's get Rick Baker to make the Sleestaks and borrow a T-Rex from Spielberg to play Grumpy and I'm there.
Didn't Marshall die on the show?
by Doc_Strange
Apr 25th, 2005

I seem to remember him dying or getting sent to another dimension, then they replaced him with Uncle Jack who somehow got lost as well. As for the movie, if done right, could be awesome, though i think they should do a TV show with a prime time slot and an obviously bigger budget, ala Lost, that would rule. Plus get some new sleestack designs, those dudes looked to damn rubbery.

That had to be one of the most mind blowing episodes ever. The kids and Marshall find this never-ending video loop (with the sounds of their screams played over and over) of them going over the falls and into the Land of the Lost. So Mashall volunteers to go through the portal, the loop stops and all three land at the bottom of the falls. To my kid brain it looked like either Marshall went back and was free of the Land of the Lost or they were all killed when the raft went over the falls. Either way, the Will and Holly were left in the Land of the Lost on their own (the uncle came later).

chrisd, that's the perfect word for what Hollywood does these days. But it's all of entertainment. Because we the audience are all too jaded and ADDled to take our entertainment straight anymore. It has to come with a catchy twist, a gimmick. The early Beatles would be laughed off the charts today -- too earnest. Hitchcock's Psycho would be called predictable. It's hard to be original when so many iconic creative ideas have already been used and reused, so now 'artists' focus on 'creative' ways to remake and remix.
